It will be almost impossible to help her without surgery. They have to see somehow in her mouth to see what is bothering her. As long as she is eating a little that is good. When my Yammy gets so deathly sick from his leukemia, he survives somehow on just a couple of licks of treat a day. Ask your vet about twilight anesthesia, where they don't have to be put under as far, that may be an option. It could have been the kind of anesthesia they used too, try to find out what it was and how much was used. There are many different brands and kinds of anesthesias. Try those lickable treats to see if that would tempt her, they just need to be licked up. I use delectable Lickables in the stew flavors.
I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help. The only cat I had with something like this had oral cancer and prednisone helped a lot. Keep up on the antibiotics, that would help an abscessed tooth. My heart aches for what you two are going through, I know how worrisome this all is. I'll pray for that sweet girl, I pray God will give you a little more time with her. She knows she is loved and that is the best comfort you can give her right now.
This is wonderful, thank you!!

We talked at supper and decided that since she DID eat a somewhat decent amount tonight we would hold off on trying the appetitie stimulant just yet, Deb said "if she didn't eat anything for awhile then yes" but she did eat some. And she said she doesn't want to force her to eat if what she is eating is enough for her and that makes sense, maybe what she was eating was too much and we thought the more she eats the better she'll feel faster but that most likely isn't the case. And Simba who is 20 doesn't eat much, a meal a day, maybe some dry food and occasional treats, and Samantha who is our littlest cat doesn't eat much and when she does she usually throws it up and she is doing fine. I think we are doting on her every move too much which is normal I guess....

It is an emotional roller coaster, one minute we feel as if we are saying good bye to her and then 2 minutes later she seems okay. We were just downstairs, Deb to get the laundry out of the dryer and me refilling the hard cat food and I heard the cellar door creak and figured it was the usual suspects and I saw Sylvester and Snickers and then right around the corner was Sugar lol!! She zipped around the other room in the dark so we see that and are amazed!

Thanks again!!

I ran down to Weis markets and got a few of the "Lickable Delectables" and she ate the whole packet of the "bisque tuna and chicken"! She stared at it for a few seconds and I thought "she's not interested" but then she ate some, then kind of twitched like her mouth was bothering her, jumped up to a next level, I put it more square to her so she wasn't twisting her neck, she ate some more and jumped down to the chair again so I gave her the rest of it and she ate it so thanks for this!!

It definitely is something with her teeth/gums/mouth but she can eat the soft stuff. She sort of lost some interest in the "Recovery" food but ate some tonight. And the "Squeeze Ups" are made by the same company as the "lickables" but the bisque was softer for her.

This morning Deb put the Recovery food down for her and she snubbed it, she has lost interest in that for some reason, so she tried some of the "Delectables" that Di & Bob suggested, she sniffed it and started to eat it so Deb put more down but mixed some Recovery and vitamins in it and she ate the whole packet again, whew.....Deb just said that she says what I was thinking when I feed her "please God, make her eat this" and I said "I do the same thing. And keep praying to St. Francis, the patron Saint of animals".

And I was behind the closed bathroom door and I heard Deb whisper "Sylvester, let her alone" which means he was sticking his nose in while she was trying to eat lol! :clapcat: 😄

She then used the litter box (quite loudly too!) and I put her in the window so she gets some fresh air and can listen to the birds and that is good for her, I'll put her down as I need to get going here for work but every chance I get she goes in there when she is in the spare room, and that's all we are asking, just for her to eat so it buys us some time with her and until we can get to the vet appointment Tuesday night for her recheck visit, then we can discuss what we can do although they only allow one person in at a time which is a pain because I might forget something or not ask something or not be able to convey what they said to Deb correctly, ugh...but she is still eating somewhat without any stimulant, and listening to what Di said about her cat and also reading reviews online about these Delectables there are MANY others who have older cats that barely eat and are a struggle, so we're not alone, but I'm not sure there are many with her history of almost dying because of a horrible reaction to anesthesia, but either way we are dealing with it and finding our way with it.

THANK YOU ALL AND GOD BLESS FOR YOUR HELP, I hope things work out with whatever is best for HER! :rbheart:

Could you use your cellphones, --make sure the batteries are charged and while you're in talking to them, call Deb and put it on speaker so she can hear what they're saying?

Try the delectables in the stew flavors too. My cats won't eat the bisque! They are almost gel-like. I am SO happy she ate for you!
She ate one of the stew ones this morning! We're going to the store to get more tonight and Deb ordered them from Chewy!!

She eats the Delectables but for some reason is not interested in wet food by Fancy Feast or Recovery, maybe because of the consistency of it is hard for her to swallow? But she eats these and we mix in vitamins and fish oil and will talk to the vet Tuesday night.

I put her in the window just now to get some air and listen to the birds and for a change of "scenery" for her. She just shook her head and makes that movement with her mouth so it is still uncomfortable for her. Last night we gave her some pain meds but don't want to overdo that as I read it is an opium and it seems to make her drowsy/goofy, but we don't want her in pain. She LOOKS a bit better to me body-wise and she does feel a bit heavier when I pick her up which is good. I truly believe that she is still in there, and if we could just get a vet dentist that has an anesthesiologist who can monitor her better so we don't have a fiasco like we did 4 years ago at our vet they could help her issue and I think she would have some more time with us and be pretty good. The hard part is going to be convincing Deb of that, she refuses to put her under again and regrets what we did with another cat Sassy years ago who suddenly became paralyzed in her hind legs, they told us she had a 60% chance of walking again if they operated so we did, she didn't so they had us try water therapy and other things and she was like a little baby in diapers, we tried all we could but she never walked again and she says she will regret that forever but I say we tried, if someone told me I had a 60% chance to walk again I'd say "go for it", but that is forever stuck in her mind just as this HORRIBLE reaction will be, but I'm thinking a vet who is a specialist in dentistry with someone who knows how to watch the anesthesia might work, but we'll have to hash that out after we see what the vet says Tuesday night.

And last night Stanley and Sylvester had an issue, they sometimes do with each other, I guess Stanley was looking out the bow window and Sylvester wanted to do that so they were about 4 feet from each other just having a stare down, so I got in between them and said "break the spell, knock it off", but a little bit later I was upstairs and heard the screaming from them and Deb as she said Sylvester attacked Stanley from behind and they were rolling around fighting like they haven't done in awhile so I of course charged downstairs to see what was going on and who was out from behind her hiding space standing there looking like she was going to either referee this or get involved? SUGAR!!!! :)

I'm telling you she's still in there, we just need to get over this mouth issue and she'll be better, but that is going to be one heck of a job convincing us that it will go okay....

Our old girl Sugar, the one that almost died several years ago when she had a HORRIBLE reaction to anesthesia when she was getting a cancerous tumor removed and some dental work done, is getting thinner and older, she's slower but older but still here and we were lucky that she made it through that ordeal years ago. She will eat treats and Squeeze ups but when we put her by a bowl of wet food she walks away, but I see her moving her mouth and think something is bothering her but NO WAY are we going to put her under again after she almost died, but I had an idea as Deb said "maybe she has a hard time eating out of the bowls?", so I put food and treats and a Squeeze up on a flat paper towel and she ate! So we are thinking that is the problem for some reason, eating out of a bowl?

I called the vet days ago asking if maybe we should try an appetite stimulant but Deb is afraid how she would react to that and I understand why, but of the course the vet wanted us to bring her in for a checkup and do blood work and we aren't going to do that to the old girl, get her all stressed out, she is still drinking and eating hard food and Squeeze ups but now we are aware of this, we'll feed her on paper plates from now on, but if you have any thing to add to this that we might not be seeing please do!

Thank you!!
The appetite stimulant worked miracles on my Molly when she had pancreatitis 2 years ago. Molly was so sick & lost a lot of weight but Mirataz worked wonders. It's applied topicaly - (like flea drops).. Molly is back to her old self now but I keep the Mirataz on hand if she has another bout of pancreatitis.

Maybe your kitty doesn't like her whiskers touching the sides of the bowl.

Can you mix the Delectables with the recovery food to make the recovery food thinner and the Delectables more nutritious?

I am thinking my Betty has something uncomfortable in her mouth or throat right now (probably a reaction to a recent endoscopy procedure) and she will eat the A/D food more readily if I make little bite sized mounds for her or line it all up at the front of the plate like a mountain ridge of mini-bites.

That's what we are doing, it works, somewhat....she just isn't interested in any of the wet food and I am sure it is because of her mouth issues, she used to eat it before.

I talked to one of the workers at the vet tonight and they said it was fine to try some appetite stimulant, we had been holding off on it but might try it to get her to eat some more. And she told me about the vet that has a dental specialist and an anesthesiologist, I looked up their website and it looks pretty promising, so we are going to mull it over and see what they think on Tuesday night.

See what they think, if she's losing weight or dehydrated, that sort of thing. Hopefully she's hanging in there!

We put some appetite stimulant on her ear last night to see if it made any difference. Well, this morning, when I was getting the cat food ready for them all she was standing in the dining room, then she laid down, but she was there. I had to get ready for work but Deb was off so she took over and she said she ate a LOT, and even went into the kitchen later by herself and was eating out of a bowl, so we don't know if the stimulant worked that fast or if she is just feeling better? Deb is thinking maybe that abcess is healing and feeling better, I also think it is the extra attention that we are paying her, but whatever it is (prayers too!!!) she is acting SO much better today! And I went upstairs to do something in the bedroom and had my hands full so I didn't close the bedroom door and I saw a cat coming in, we don't allow them in there for several reasons, and I thought it was Stanley but it was Sugar! She came upstairs, came in and was snooping around so I let her and once again switched places with Debbie, and she said when she was talking to Sugar she would meow back and answer her and she hasn't done that in a long time!!

I said I think this was a "wakeup" call for us to pay more mind to her and the rest. She of course is slowed down at her age, but just the last 12 days or so she seemed like she was going downhill fast, but we saw what was wrong and attended to it and she is responding really well today, we are so so pleased, and will see how she does over the weekend and then at the vet on Tuesday night. But if she continues to eat she will gain weight and get stronger, and that is what she needs!! :rbheart:

Well she is just moving right along here, eating better without any appetite stimulant (we only used it once), is going downstairs to the basement like old times and also upstairs to the bedroom, is loving the extra attention and "breakfast and dinner in bed" lol, and seems happier. We still see she has some mouth issues but we are dealing with it and the softer food and lickable food really helps, we ordered a homeopathic remedy that is supposed to help with mouth issues and inflammation and will see what the vet says tomorrow night, but she surely has and is improving from what we saw weeks ago, both Deb & I were wondering "is this the end?" for her but with research and work and help on here we are meeting the challenge, and I don't think it is her time just yet, let's hope that it keeps going in the right direction!

Thanks again for all of the help and support, I will let you know how we do at the vet appointment tomorrow night! :rbheart: :crossfingers:
