Is my kitten really a shorthair?

Hi all,
I adopted my kitten Aten just 2 weeks ago and he was listed as a domestic shorthair. He is just over 4 months old approx, and has been continuously getting tuftier in places (primarily his tummy and tail) is this normal for a shorthaired kitten, or could he potentially become a medium hair in his adult coat? He was semi feral so I've been gradually trying to get him used to a brush just in case and would like to be prepared 😅😂
Thank you in advance!

Looks like a shorthair to me; cute kitten! Brushing is a good idea for shorthairs, as well. If nothing else, it’s a good bonding experience :)

Thank you! And I agree, he's an adorable lil dude 😊
Of course, I do brush my other kitty who is short haired. Was just wondering if perhaps I may end up having to be a little more thorough with him in the future, especially since the longer hairs are on his primordial pouch and he's not so happy about being touched there just yet 😂
We'll get there. Again thank you!

These pictures show his poofy tail and fuzz a bit better, though Akila the second kitty pictured, also has an extremely thick, log like tail  (and yes, they do have multiple cat trees but choose to squeeze up on this one together) 20220619_191307.jpg 20220619_191224.jpg

Yes he looks short haired to me. Some short haired cats have a slightly fluffier tail.
Thank you for the additional clarification! His coat has just grown longer over the two weeks of having him so I was curious and wanted to be prepared just in case he surprised me at a later date 😅 (I've never owned anything other than short coat cats before) But my older kitty does have a very thick dense short coat with quite a bushy tail herself.

He's stunning! Here's a pic of my boy at 4 months old for easy comparison for you. You can see the longer fur in his ears and the longer fur on his paw pad. If your boy has that then he's a longhair, if not he's just a fluffier shorthair :)

Wow he is gorgeous😻 that classic tabby pattern tux against the white and the contrast… I think he looks like a fluffy shorthair but time will tell. My merlin is a very fluffy short hair and he actually sheds more when I comb him than my long hair guy zena does 😀

Thank you 😊 your kitty is a beauty too! My little one definitely isn't fluffy like your boy. He's kinda smooth all over with a fuzzy tummy and underside of his tail only, so I think you're all right in that he's a shorthair just a slightly fuzzier one 😆🥰

Thank you so much! I think so too 🥰 . The feral colonies around my area are quite dominant with classic tabby and white, bless them.
I agree, he's looking very much like a short coat with added tummy and butt fuzz at the moment lol.
And goodness, tell me about it! My plushie short hair girlie is also a big shedder. Pet her and her hair poofs everywhere, glad I'm not the only one
Though I've never owned a kitty with a medium or longer coat, so I don't have the slightest clue what it's like to live with them.
Aten does have the cutest spotty chest and belly though ❤

I LOVE the term furbies and definitely think I'll be stealing that from you!
And aww, Sybil was absolutely enchanting 💜
