Okay! Maybe good news for you! I would agree that you would think two cultures should have been done?
Hopefully it is something else other than ringworm reoccurring šŸ˜¬ I had contacted the vets at Chewy where I purchase most of my pet supplies and they were very helpful and knowledgeable about ringworm. Recommended everything that I had read on the internet and they understood the seriousness of it being highly contagious to other animals and also myself. I then had solid information to go to my vet and advocate for what I needed to treat my animals.
Yes, maybe; we shall see. Although I hate it, Iā€™m keeping Merlin in the one room, just in case.
I didnā€™t realize Chewy has vets one can communicate with. That was smart of you.
Iā€™m bewildered by this vet. To say she thinks Iā€™m going overboard! It reminded me of COVID deniers who wouldnā€™t wear a mask, but changed their tune when they got COVID. Plus she recommended this site and the cleaning protocol during the first ringworm bout
She said, ā€œI have a friend with 3 cats and one got ringworm. She never separated them and the other 2 never got it.ā€ Right ā€” so one person doesnā€™t wear a mask and doesnā€™t get COVID, and so that means everyone is over-reacting. šŸ˜³

I slept 2 hours late afternoon yesterday. Iā€™d been so stressed. I dread a positive culture, but all I can do is wait. (I tried to have a culture done right at the beginning, but Merlin freaked out and actually urinated when I tried to get him in the carrier. So we didnā€™t make our appointment. And then he started living under the couch, so I decided to let him calm down for a week because his stress level is so high.)

Whatā€™s happening with you? Post pet pics. šŸ˜Š

its okay. i'm pretty desperate to get this fungus off my cats and out of my life. if i could, i would pay someone a good amount of money to take my cats in, treat them for the ringworm for several weeks- months and bring them back to me 100% ringworm free.

they started their 5 weeks itrafungol 5 mg/kg week on and week off treatment on 4/26. if everything had went well, they would've been off their medications right now, lesions would be healing, hair grown, and i would be just monitoring for reinfection.

unfortunately, they developed more lesions at the last week of their itrafungol (late may - early june)......... so now they are on their itrafungol 10 mg/kg every day for 3 weeks. the end of the three weeks is 6/24, thankfully. i will bring my cats in for culture on/around 6/24 probably if it gets better.

if they still have lesions on 6/24, my dermatologist advised to give itrafungol 5 mg/kg week on and week off until lesion subsides.
i will probably still give them the on and off itrafungol 5 mg/kg until their culture comes back. approx 3 weeks for culture to come back. theres no limit to how long my cats could be on itrafungol my dermatologist said.

i think you shoudl let the vet do the culture. if you do it at home, there a chance it might get contaminated and might be false positive or false negative.

how is the treatment of your cat doing? did you end up startign oral medication again?
How are you doing? Your pets are lucky to have you!

ive been working a few 12 hours night shift. usually when that happens i just knock out when i get back home after cleaning the cats XD
my cats finishes their last 3 weeks straight of itrafungol on the 25th.

my ragoll still looks fluffy, siberian still doenst have too much fur, but is growing back some. my russian blue looks about the same, hasn't been losing more fur, but still hasn't grown back his fur. still a few bald spots here in there. will probably bring all three to the vet for culture at the end of june. pretty sure my russian blue ringworm on his paws...

i ended up changing the twice weekly lime sulfur to once a week lime sulfur. as much as i want to do twice weekly, its too much chores and is time consuming. my siberian and russian blue gives me such the hardest time as well.

all three cats are now in their own crates. hopefully they wont infect each other now.

one of my friend said that i was doing too much actually. when his one short hair cat from the shelter got ringworm, all he did was give oral med for two weeks and it went away. didnt even have to give lime sulfur baths. thats good for him, but having one kitten with ringworm is different from having 3 cats with ringworm. esp since my long fur cats sheds a lot. for some ringworm instances, they situation is lucky in the sense where their ringworm goes away without even quarantine being needed. i wish that would happen with my cats, but it wont. hehe

when ringworm first happened to my cats. i was actually "lax" in the way i treated my cats. i did not throw away objects, but did heavily disfinected them and quarantined my cats, did not swiffer my the walls as well, and did not do lime sulfur dip and gave oral medication just like my friend, but unfortunately, mines came back... several times... XD hence why i need to do things more extreme now XD

I have just ordered more fungassy test to do at home. I am going to use a sterile toothbrush and get a hair and skin culture from each cat and dog. Then take another from each two weeks from the first. After reading about the reinfection and on going lesions with the intraf
Where do you get the fungassy test to do at home?? Would so love to do that!! My kittens just finished the 3rd week of (on/off Itrafngol) The first kitten looks pretty good. Kitten #2 still has some spots that light up on her nose. We go to the vet on the 24th for culture.

Exactly! Me too; I was more relaxed the first time. Itā€™s no joke when itā€™s a recurrence. I find it very annoying when people say, Oh I didnā€™t have to do anything. To me itā€™s like people who would take chances during the pandemic but did not get Covid. Hello, you are lucky! It doesnā€™t mean that Covid isnā€™t real, or that everyone should stop wearing masks and taking precautions! And then youā€™ve got all those people who thought it was a hoax, and then did in fact get Covid. They changed their tune pretty quickly. I think the same would happen with these folks if they had a recurrence of ringworm. My own vet said I was overreacting. I felt scolded. To hell with them; I have done all of the reading and I know exactly what is necessary. And so do you.

That must be really tough keeping your cats in separate crates. But itā€™s temporary. Seems like a really smart move.

12 hour shift, whoa! Are you a nurse?

Hi
Merlin is very cute!!! I purchased my fungassy test kit from Revival animal health. I put in Fungassy test to search where I could buy it and their company showed it was availabl. You would have to pay for overnight air due to the summer season. It requires refrigeration until you use it. Then it is stored with a loose cap in a dark cabinet at room temp. Instructions are very clear. You tube has a video with I believe is a vet taking a culture to show how itā€™s done. It is how to take a ringworm culture. Not fungassy add. I just used the sterile toothbrush and culture medium to check my pets. Hopefully no color change. I believe I kept it all sterile and carefully pressed the toothbrush into the medium. The only thing is you need the smallest toothbrushes because it needs to fit in the cylinder glass container with the culture medium. Iā€™m hoping no color change.
Watching my pets like a detective! LOL Looking for any hair loss, scratching of any kindšŸ˜³šŸ˜¬, and if any lesions may be starting. Things are looking good right now and it has been awhile since all treatment ended, Iā€™m still vacuuming frequently and I have to say I love my very expensive Miele vacuum! Best to you both and your furry little onesšŸ’•

I wanted to send all the information that I have about Fungassy testing. I did purchase from this site most recently. Arrived cold with overnight and I was able to purchase two sets of vials with overnight air for $104.00. Less than I paid at Revival animal health. It may not be the best option for you? Just wanted to forward the information!

So thatā€™s 20 tests? For 104.00? Thatā€™s very cheap!
how often have you been using up the tests. Did you use up the Intial two vials yet?

because my insurance doenst cover my catā€™s vet visit, but does cover the culture. My catā€™s vet visit alone cost $90ish already just to bring them in to get a fungal cultureā€¦

Yep. I work 12hrs night shift as a nurse. Will be off the next three days now! Will be able to get a lot of cleaning. At the rate of the way each cat is healing, Iā€™m more concerned of them reinfecting each other during treatment again :/ initially, it was just one cat with lesion, now itā€™s three šŸ˜±
But good thing they are separated now.

I wish I could disinfect everyday, but time doenst permit that.
I used the UV lamp the other day, it left a burning smell in their Room afterwards. Apparently that Means it did its job In killing microbes. I like the lamp a lot. Probably because it kills a bunch of other bacterias as well, not just ringworm.

to be honest, the primary vets they donā€™t know too much. They didnā€™t know about the option of giving itrafungol 10mg/ml. Wouldā€™ve been nice if I couldā€™ve started that kind of dosing earlierā€¦ instead of giving my cats the 5mg/ml dosing after severalllllllll reinfection. Donā€™t even know where this ringworm is coming from despite me disinfecting a lot and throwing away furnitures. Yet some other cat owners, didnā€™t even have to quarantine or throw away furnitures to prevent reinfectionā€¦made me very envious :( itā€™s just that feeling where you felt like you did everything, but it still keeps coming back. Makes you Wonder if anything that you are doing is right anymore.
On good note, my Siberian is slightly growing back mane now..
Meanwhile, my Russian blue is still a different story with his bald spots šŸ˜

I even moved apartments too. And blocked off the central air because thatwas the one thing I couldnā€™t clean at my old apartment. My cats would like to sit on the ac. So their fur could fall directly into the vents. Thinking about ringworm fur falling directly into the vents and blowing back out into the air when I turn on the AC, scattering and reinfecting my cats stressed me out. Especially since I cant open the vents to the AC to clean. My dermatologist gave me the option to vacuum it if I see fur , but kindaaaaaa canā€™t, if I canā€™t open itā€¦ Which prompted me to put my cats in kernels and plastic wrap my AC.

also to destress my cats, I bought feliway diffuser from Amazon as recommended by S Sandy7272
i feel likes itā€™s been working so far! My cats have been playful despite being in the kernel for several weeks already.

Cute kittiesšŸ’• The lamp sounds good!
The Fungassy comes with 10 vials per set.My order as two test kits. A total of 20 vials for testing! With 3 yorkies and 6 cats to test it is my best option!

Iā€™m wildly impressed by nurses; thank you for all you do.
ringworm is especially hard for people with multiple animals. You have beaten this already. Itā€™s just a matter of time until the lesions are gone and the cultures show that they are ringworm free. Maybe give yourself a break and donā€™t even try to clean every day.
Yes the forced-air heating and cooling vents are a worry. I bought expensive filters that are supposed to last 90 days, and I switch them out every two weeks.
I bought a Feliway diffuser too! They work especially well in an enclosed space I am discovering, because it does seem to be having an effect, a positive one. Many years ago I put one in the dining room and one in the living room, and I saw no effect on my cats. But those are wide open spaces; there are no doors.

Thanks for the information, I have saved it. Your cats are beautiful! They are worth the effort, right? Although I do wish they would help with the cleaning, LOL. I love my Miele vacuum, too. It really is an amazing machine, and I can see why it is so expensive. I feel shocked and sort of tickled that I bought it. My last vacuum was about $200 (12 year ago). Well Iā€™m 61 now, I donā€™t know how old you are, and anything that makes my life easier is a blessed thing. šŸ˜Ž

Yep! Even when I donā€™t reply, I have been reading up on everyoneā€™s conversation :)
Thanks! Frankly speaking, I like being at work more than at home now šŸ˜‚ I used to not like work too, but I at least get to not do any cat chores during my 12 hours shifts :)
Iā€™m still just a bit sad that my Russian blue still has four bald spots :( heā€™s not losing more fur, but at the same time not growing fur :/
Their everyday 10mg/ML itrafungol for three weeks ends this Saturday too on the 25th.

S Sandy7272 I might consider the fungassy test as well, just because getting ONE culture done on one of my cats already costs 100$

J JacquieM Iā€™ll look into the calming spray that you suggested! How has your cat been doing in terms of treatment? Howā€™s the lesion/fur loss

Merlin is doing good. You might have missed my news that the vet thinks it is not ringworm. So Iā€™m waiting on the culture results. Iā€™m confused, because it looks exactly like it did last time. She says there is a circular lesion missing that was present last time, and that last time she thought the rest of it, that is the widespread hair loss across the ears, was not ringworm. It wouldā€™ve been nice if she mentioned that to me. I mean hair loss occurs with ringworm! So I donā€™t know what is going on. We would have started the second week of the medication this past Wednesday, but she said not to.

she also said she had a cat who lost all the hair on his ears every spring and then it grew back. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

Is it possible, then, that some of your Russian blueā€™s bald spots are not ringworm?

I know vets are very busy, but I think their communication skills are horrible.

Itā€™s been 6 days since I used the sterile toothbrush and brushed my cats for a fungassy culture. No color change as of right now! I can only hope I took the culture correctlyšŸ˜¬. Im not noticing any bald spots, lesions or extra hair loss. My vets approach to ringworm on my cat was so relaxed it surprised me. So glad I had the internet and the chewy vets to ask questions about ringworm. Products available. My cats were caged for 9 weeks due to starting treatment on my little dogs weeks after my cats started. I asked for medication for all my pets at the same time and she would not do it. Even after I showed her the lesion above my yorkies eyes. She gave me topical. Not effective at all. She finally prescribed the intrafungal after I insisted. I do think having my cats each caged was for the best but the amount of time was not. If I think about it I feel a little angry. She did tell me later that she could not do what I was doing if it happened at her house. I think she realized later that the amount of work and treatment is serious and should not be taken lightly. Hopefully, Merlin does have something else going on. I would agree that your vets lack of communication and clarity of suspected diagnosis is so discouraging when you have been committed to getting him well. Ringworm treatment is mentally and physically exhausting šŸ™ Again to you both the commitment is worth it. Your cats are all so adorable! Thank you for sharing picturesšŸ’•

Especially with multiple pets! You gotta lock it down fast. Did your Yorkie get cultured?
I gave Merlin his freedom last night. It was day 10 of the culture, and no sign of ringworm. The vet says sheā€™ll let me know how it is on day 14, technically the endpoint. But I just didnā€™t want to keep him sequestered anymore. Plus thereā€™s been no change at all with his ears. They simply have no hair. So of course now Iā€™m wondering, what the heck is it!
Are your cats free now? Or you are still waiting a bit longer.
The most horrifying thing to me was that I wouldnā€™t be able to have a Pet Sitter come in. My mom is 91 and five hours away, and I need to visit her. Also Iā€™m going hiking in Scotland for 11 days in September. So I was pretty panicked about that.

Stay cool; I donā€™t know where you live, but itā€™s going to be 95Ā° here in Philadelphia this weekend. Plus high humidity. Ugh.

PS, Iā€™d be worried too about doing the culture correctly, but Iā€™m sure you followed the instructions and did it right. The only way you could screw it up is to contaminate it, isnā€™t that right?
