I just realized iPhone has a new feature that will ID a cat (also plant, dog etc). Just thought it was cool! Does it seem to be accurate?

Well yeah I know it’s only for entertainment. But this forum is kind of the same thing. People look at a picture and say what they think it is. I’m just wondering if someone was to look at the pics of my cats I posted, is that what they’d think they were.

I think Siri is confused. You'd probably get better information asking a stranger on the street.

The only one that might be considered a lookalike is the first one that Siri identifies as a Bombay. There are some similarities to your cat in the shape of the head and eyes. The Burmese is completely off.

The similarity in your cat to the Siamese and Balinese is that they are all pointed cats (cooler "points" on the cats are a darker color). The Siamese has a different body type and head type, and the Balinese is a longhair cat.

For your tabby, both Egyptian Mau and American Shorthair are completely off. No similarity in tabby pattern, body type, head, etc.

While the app can be fun to try, I wouldn't trust it to identify a cat that I absolutely know is a specific breed.

Thank you. That is exactly what I was asking 🙂

Does it work on an ipad too? I downloaded cat scanner to my ipad and scanned Zena and Quinn. It did a pretty good job. For Quinn a pb siamese, it said 84.6% siamese and the rest snowshoe. For Zena it said mostly dlh and some MC and Siberian. It also said tuxedo. He def looks like a mini forest cat. Not so mini anymore because he gained 2 pounds since December since coming inside and now weighs 12 lbs 😀 He is not overweight at all.

I just scanned Merlin the results were MC, dsh, snowshoe and ragdoll. So less accurate but still fun. Snowshoe prolly because he has mittens and boots. Quinn of course does not, so it should have been 100% siamese. But still pretty good for such an app.

I redid Quinn and this time it was 96.6% siamese, so accurate with maybe a better scan 😀

Ok, so I tried to test it out for giggles.

Gave up after 9 (9!!!) photos of my Purebred Maine Coon came up 4x as a domestic cat, 4x as a mixed breed and 1x as a Norwegian Forest Cat. Not one single correct hit. I tried all kinds of views too.

My domestic cat said mixed breed and listed one of them as a "Tortoiseshell cat" of which there is no breed as we all know, it's a coat color. Another said "domestic cat" which is right for what she is but again isn't a breed in of itself.

So my assessment is the app is useless.

that’s pretty much what I was asking in my original post. Aside from knowing my cats are siamese, I have no idea about cat breeds. I always go “uhhhhh” when they ask me that at the vet

Your cat, may not be Siamese. Many domestic cats are pointed like yours. Unless you got them from a breeder and have their pedigrees ("papers") most likely they are pointed domestic cats.

Ahh ok. They def aren’t pedigree. Their mom was pure black! Her litter had a black cat, a black and white cat and my 2
