Hello, my cat just gave birth to 5 kittens a little over 12 hours ago and I’ve been tracking their weight and noticed that 2 have lost a few grams and 1 weight isn’t changing at all. This is my cats first time being a mom and she also has a habit of leaving them and not helping them. One had fell out the box and she left it and then a hour later she left them completely and I had to find her and put her back with them. I know it is only a few grams but they are new and I want to make sure they are receiving the best they can. Below are all their weights. The first being their previous weight and the second being the most recent.
109/111
103/103
123/121
118/121
120/118

They are excellent weight for a newborns. Please, you should weight them once in 24 hours leave mom to take care of them. If she is first time mom you risking her walking away from them. They will be fine.

The weights are very good, and it is not uncommon for a newborn to lose a few grams before gaining. They are getting colostrum before full milk comes in. It’s also okay for mom to take breaks as long as she returns when they cry.

Do watch for a runt with five and make sure all get equal nursing time.

She already started walking away from them and thats why i started weighing them. She’s been leaving and turning away from them not letting them nurse really. So I went and got a scale to be safe.

Sorry I wanted to ask this before but didn’t because I was scared but the first one she had seems to be one of the smallest and the last one is one of the biggest. My issue isn’t that he is losing weight it’s is that she had him on a chair and he fell off the chair from what we believe. We didn’t expect her to give birth yet, the vet we went to said we still had about two weeks left. So we didn’t fully prepare her birth box(it came in today which is the same day she gave birth) and I want to take him to a vet ti make sure but they are busy. Are there any signs I should look out for? And the chair was about 2 feet from the ground.

Is he nursing normally? Does he move around a bit and mew? He should be okay if so.
