Good morning,

My cat Storm is in active labor. She's panting and has hidden herself in the nest , in my closet. I am the only person she will allow around her or in the room.

I just realized storm was pregnant last week during finals and I am very nervous. She will be spayed as soon as she's able to. I have a few questions to ask and I appreciate any and all input.

I purchased a 45×45 pop up animal pen with removable top, after she's done giving birth can I move her and the kittens in there after she's given birth?

One heard of mom cats eating there kittens, his common is that? What can I do to prevent that or decrease the chances of her doing it?

How soon should kittens be nursing her?

I'm missing things I wanted to ask, as I just looked in the closet and she has two kittens already

Good weights! How many now? Is she done?

I would leave her in the closet for now. She clearly feels safe there.

It’s rare for moms to eat their kittens.

She has wo kittens , but I had palpated her stomach and felt more kitten movement. I had read about interrupted cat labor and I believe that's what potentially happening but I am calling the vets this morning and going from there.

I have been monitoring her on zoom for my living room to try to give her the space to be a mom.
I am noticing that she doesn't always go to them when they cry and or if they do latch on she gets up and lets them just detach in whatever area she walks through.

I don't think she's done as I have felt more kitten movement. She's not in distress and is purring, eating with no abnormal discharge.

She will not sit still with the kittens nursing, is this normal?

Thank you for your help!

How are things this morning?
She's good! Eating, a little aggressive towards any noises in the hallway, but has been checking on the kittens when they cry. She is restless and was not giving the kittens time to nurse and staying still for them to remain attached but I have found that if I help them latch on and stay next to her she will sit still.
Their weight this morning is 124g and 145g

She's not feeding the kittens at all, unless I interval I am watching and trying not to stress. I am scared something will happen to the kittens.

Idk what to do, I have food for them I've tried to use the miracle nipples and they won't eat.

Hopefully she will settle down in another day or so. Her hormones are in high gear still. Continue sitting with her as often as possible.

Its not common for moms eating her kittens.
It may happen in two situation: If momma is stressed in extreme; typically there is a threat she cant avoid. Say a hostile dog nearby... So its a total panic reaction...

The obvious remedy is to keep her safe, and happy... No disturbing noises, no unruly kids... If in any doubt, dont let any other animals near. (if you have pets whom are friendly with her, and she allows them near, its OK )

The other is, if one of her kittens is dying or severly sick... Some moms try to help extra such a sick kitten, but yes, its not unusual they end the pains of the goner, and carry it away or eat it up... Its by nature, to safeguard the others kittens will survive, and no predators nor ants will come and take their fetch...

The remedy here is, if one of the kittens is sick, you as care taker step in and help the kitten, with handraising if so is... Such a kitter, goner in nature, may quite often be saved and live long and healthy live... Its often troublesome and needs much work, but surprisingly often doable...

Kittens usually begin to nurse in a few minutes, few hours at most,
A wise caretaker has some prepared kmr or goats milk, if moms milk comes in late (yes this happens occasionally)

Kittens whom have moms usually are reluctant with bottle. Try with having this miracle nipple on a needleless syringe or a dropper. But wait it out if mom calms down. Help them as before; encourage her to still down, talk sweetly... She seems a little stressed. A good daily raise is 10+ grammes.

Thank you for your input, my cat has taken to motherhood since I last posted and she's doing great. The kittens are super healthy and happy.

Hello, hope you are well!
I just had a quick question, my kittens are weighing in at 391g 377g they're 16 days old, is that overweight?
