The hot water heater was in a built in cabinet! ?????? Had to cut it apart! I helped and I happened to have the braces we needed to patch it back together again. Yay! This will keep the cats out until I can do something a little neater.
Hot water, washing machine and van. Luxeries!

If there's anything you would like to know or ask please feel free to pm me. I would be more than glad to share since it was a very positive experience.
THANK YOU! I've heard so many things about the treatment, I knew right away that I want her to have it. The biggest issues are, will my care credit cover it? I think so, but will check; and how to get her from here to Wilmington and back again! It's hard to ask a friend to drive you 230 miles, round trip, with a radioactive cat on the return!

From Instagram account of dapperdanthediapurrman a heartfelt message.
Something we all need to be mindful of. Sometimes, rehoming or surrender is all there is to do. Sometimes it is the most responsible thing to do, even when it breaks our hearts.

Hot water, washing machine and van. Luxeries!
Remind me if I ever win a lottery, YOU are getting, among other things, a tankless water heating system!

Glad you have hot water again, and yes, that is a rather novel installation whose like I haven't seen before.
The main problem with Bashful is that she has always been rather timid, and never bonded with any of the other cats, Burdock excepted. Accordingly, if approached by any of them, she would get defensive and hiss, or run and hide. Now, with Burdock gone, she has no one else to snuggle with; at least not like the two of them did, and unless or until she develops something with one of the others, she will continue to be lonely. We are doing what we can to help bring her around, though.
I can see where your clowder could have similar problems, having to deal with not one shock, but two, and in a relatively short span at that. We can only hope that their grief period is shorter than ours is.

neely neely how is Carleton doing?
Thanks so much for remembering. 🤗 In just a little over one month since his I-131 treatment his thyroid level is in the normal range. I am jumping for joy and Carleton joined in with me! :jump: He's not out of the woods yet though, he will get retested three more times within a year.

Yes, I wasn't sure what to do when Carleton was diagnosed because it came as such a shock so I started with Methimazole in the transdermal gel form. Two of our vets told us he was an excellent candidate for the I-131 but I needed time to digest the treatment as well as the cost. The vets also told me that if I added up the cost of the medicine since you have to go to a compound pharmacy plus all the necessary bloodwork while on the medicine it would end up being cheaper to do the I-131 in the long run and it has a 96% success rate. In addition, the Methimazole is not a cure and eventually the other organs would be affected. If you are able to get to Wilmington and you have time to think about it just make sure they do the Scintigraphy prior to the treatment, it's essential but not every facility has the nuclear medical equipment to do it. I'll be thinking of you and HeKitty too. :hugs:

keep a-goin'! One foot -- in whatever condition it's in -- in front of the other! We'll get there if we all help each other!
I love this! Whatever condition it is in, keep it moving....and keep helping each other. 👍

it takes time and we just offer distractions and comfort.
Another great life metaphor...Distract with the little comforting things, and keep going towards the big things...;)

Banjo will fluff and fold
Hey, I want that job. 😁

Clowder will donate fur to the fabric to make sure their hooman stays warm this winter
Ewww...You guys have a strange love of cat hair...You can have all of mine...

Lady gets the sweaters, coats
Wish I was there, I'm not allowed to wash sweaters or coats, they would hurt the washer & hurt the sweaters/coats. :rolleyes3:

I am pretty sure Banjo had the card the whole time. Maybe she can get one in her name soon.
She and I would both love that. Independence! 🙏

Happy dance!! Another mountain climbed!!
You're a good mountain climber. I should chain myself to you.

I know! If I win the lottery, I would like to help her out too, since she is always helping every living being. :crossfingers:

N NY cat man I had been thinking about that. We are going through that too. Flowers, Whistle and Banjo especially but everything has shifted. Banjo calls and Whistle swear he’s. Flowers is reclusive. As with humans, it takes time and we just offer distractions and comfort.
I'd been wondering how the clowder was dealing with the loss. I'm still not totally over it, and I'd never even met the precious patriarch in person, just virtually. Plus you recently lost darling Smokey. So I'm sure both the human member of the clowder and the furry ones are going to need some time to adjust to both losses.

Awww... poor Bashful. Hope she manages to find another snuggle buddy amongst her little clowder soon. :catlove:

N NY cat man How well we know that state of things here. Suha has only really liked two of the clowder -- Samuda and Tarifa -- and now she is bereft and having a tolerate/less than tolerate relationship with the Big Blue Chaser of Little Tuxedo Cats. :sniffle: It doesn't sit well with her. And I have to run interference between them from time to time. It's so true that family changes can affect cats deeply.
Jcatbird Jcatbird You might want to check your cat supply store(s), amazon, eBay and any other venue where you buy things for cats. Someone may have been doing some clandestine buying. :clapcat: Not naming anyone, y'understand. :insertevillaugh:
That looks like a really nice tank -- and it looks like an economical one, too, in terms of projected annual cost! Should last a long, long time, too. Did they mess up your cabinet? My roomies' tank was in a cabinet, too, outside their home. Mine is in the laundry room.
Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 That's a very kind sentiment, but those tankless heaters aren't for everyone. If you research them, it's complicated (isn't everything?) and they're not a good fit for every home. Plus, they are very expensive.
rubysmama rubysmama and Jcatbird: Yeah, clean clothes and linens are such a simple pleasure but if you don't have the way to achieve it, it can be a major headache. Not being able to get cleaned up is even worse. When I first left home, it was to move into a converted garage and the woman in the house in front would cut the hot water off on us, so I often had to boil cauldrons of water on the stove so we could bathe. It was NOT good. My BF would wait until she left and break into the screen porch where the water heater was, and turn it back on. She was a very strange person!

LOL, hence the sweepstakes caveat. At that point, it would be a drop in a large bucket. I would also have one for myself. Yes, they are complicated, but I'm currently keeping my water heater turned off when I'm not bathing or washing dishes. Saves a good $25 a month on my power bill, but it's a bother, turning on and off at the breaker, remembering to turn on 30 minutes before I want to use it.

Thanks M movinintime for the Jcatbird Jcatbird update. Always good to know she's ok, just busy.

Hope the storm won't be too bad, Jcatbird Jcatbird . 🤗
Since you're in the south, hopefully it's just a rain event, and not ice or snow like we up north get .⛄

Some of us northerners are currently getting a cold snap. How cold is it, you may ask? Here's a hint.

It's not quite that cold here; it was 1.7°F this morning and now is up to 8°. Stretch and Miss Eleanor, however, don't seem to mind.
