My birdfeeder is busy again! The woodpecker is back for the first time this fall. I also spotted a bluebird sitting on top of a Christmas star I have out in the backyard on a pole. The Dark Eyed Juncos are back too. They only come through when migrating and I haven't seen them. All my feeders are on shepherds hooks and it seemed like no one was coming around for a while. I took down the hooks that had flowers the other day and put the main feeder and suet block one where I can see from my spot at the table for school. And now it's all busy again! I am even seeing my little Chickadees (my favorite) again. :redheartpump:
I tried making some homemade nut suet this morning. It in a pan hardening right now so hopefully by this afternoon I can set some out for the squirrels and the birds.

My 99 & 11/12ths year old grandfather had a toe amputated last week; which isn't positive of course. (He's diabetic with neuropathy below the knees; this isn't the first that became infected.) The positive is that he came through surgery very well! There was much less infection than expected and he was able to move quickly to the nursing home facility that's part of his assisted living for some after care and medication to make sure that infection is gone. :redheartpump:

He has been talking about having a birthday party with the other residents at his assisted living for most of this last year. His birthday is in less than a month now; so I bet he's determined to get back there so they can all congratulate him on turning 100. He's a champ and doesn't let things bother him. I think that's his secret to aging gracefully! :agree:

That's so wonderful, MoochNNoodles MoochNNoodles ! I hope he gets his party. :redheartpump: My parents are gone, but their very good friend called me last night. She turned 99 in November and just moved from the home in which she lived for so many years to a retirement community. She wanted to be sure I had her new address. She said it was very hard to to leave her home--the move was exhausting for her and it hurt to get rid of so many things that held such dear memories--but she was enjoying having all of her meals prepared, her apartment cleaned, and her laundry done and folded. :) Such a cutie and aside from significant hearing loss, she's pretty healthy. She's a lovely woman, and she and her husband were close friends of my parents and an important part of my life.

:redheartpump: My Grandpa actually loves his assisted living home. He says they treat you like family. He had been basically stuck at home in his house before then; so he really likes the option of socializing. I think it must mean something to have peers his own age around him. He was one of the first 15 residents in a brand new facility; and it's truly beautiful and home like. His little apartment is very comfortable and he was able to bring some furniture and things from home. I think that helped. My mother took him by the old house the summer before Covid hit and he liked that. He visited with an old neighbor and the lady who bought the house is nice. He doesn't walk well because of the neuropathy so he stayed in the car; but they came out to talk to him. Especially since we haven't been able to visit with covid procedures (my kids are too young) it makes me happy knowing he is well looked after. :redheartpump:

One thing that was actually wonderful about my first marriage (other than my children!) was the fact that my (ex) husband's great-grandparents lived with us until near their deaths. Oh my goodness, I loved them! Bena, the name my children gave their great-great-grandma, was the most amazing woman in the world and one of my closest friends. She was healthy and active until her mid-90s when she developed lung cancer that took her quickly. One day she said she was going to hospice, a week later she was gone. I miss her so very much. (She is the first person who told me to get away from my then husband, a man she had raised most of his life. She called him her great failing. He failed her, not the other way around.) Papa was exceptionally close with my son. In fact, when his diabetes got too difficult to control at home, even with a nurse, and he went to a nursing home, my then 16-year-old son would go to the nursing home most weekends and stay the night with him watching westerns and samurai movies. That went on for a year before he passed. My son plans on burying Papa's ashes under a Japanese maple he plans on planting in his yard.

I knew them from the timeI was 16. Now, I am going to go share some Bena stories with my husband. (She used to swear she was 5'2". I would laugh at her and ask her to explain how I could see the top of her head when I am only 5'!)

neely neely So sorry, I missed a post about Carlton being in hospital? How is he?

Beautiful day yesterday...Connie and Roberto were sunning themselves on the umbrella that broke from the high winds
that occured on Saturday.

I went to the painful, ha!!, clinic yesterday. Stopped at Swenson's on the way home, yum! Amazing burgers!

Bad news is the 10 year old daughter of members of my church came down with COVID19. She had to be
in the hospital but is doing better! (no one in the family are vaccinated. If an adult doesn't want to be vaccinated
that is their choice but at least get your kids vaccinated!!)

Going to be nice again today!

Theres a ROBIN in my backyard. So winter is over right!?

Actually there are a lot of birds outside today and I am loving it! The chickadees are buzzing around the bird feeder trying to get a turn but the woodpecker is hogging one side. Theres a finch on the other side. A tufed titmouse was there. The dark eyed juncos are on the ground near the morning doves. I LOVE it! :redheartpump:

I saw a chubby bright red cardinal on a tall bush in the front yard. I tried to get a pic but he flew away.

So sorry, I missed a post about Carlton being in hospital? How is he?
He's doing well, thank you for asking and thinking of him. :hugs: We still have to take precautions because the radioactive iodine is not completely out of his system but we're counting down the days until we can hug him, have him sleep in our bed and go back to his regular litter. :lovecat2:

My kids and I finished 2 of 7 kinds of Christmas cookies we have planned for this year. They are growing up so fast and it’s always most evident to me when I see how helpful they are in the kitchen! There was a bit of mess making. But there was also laughing and dancing. :banana2: :lol2: :paperbag:

Oh and I got to wear my new Christmas apron my bestie made for me. It’s almost too cute to work in!:hearthrob:

My dog's brother got returned to the rescue a couple of weeks ago and he was in need of a foster home, so I took him in. His name is Bhairu but I've been calling him Roo because I've been debating adopting him so I figured a name change would be easier if it was similar to his original name and the name I was considering for him is Rooney. He gets along well with my dog, but he has a lot of issues that he needs to get trained out of. I think that was why he got returned, the original owners did a bad job of training him. He's also *super* high energy, but so is my dog, so it's a good fit. I'm not sure if I want to adopt him, so I've been seeing how he does with some basic training and how the cats adapt to him as well.

Here's a picture of him with my dog. Yes they are actual siblings despite them looking nothing alike. Poppy was the only yellow dog in the litter, all of her siblings were black and white, so she's the odd one of the 8.

Today is one of my all-time positives - it's Carleton's Get Out Of Jail Day! :yess: He is no longer radioactive from the I-131 treatment and we can hold him, cuddle, go back to his regular litter, let him sleep in our bed and say goodbye to all the other necessary precautions. The first thing I did this morning was pick him up and gently squeeze him, so happy!:cheerleader:
