Yesterday we had some fried chicken from Weis markets for lunch and of course I had to "share" some with several of our cats who beg and Sylvester was one of them. I give them little pieces of the meat only, no skin, and it was a bit more greasy than usual, and a few hours later Sylvester started throwing up and did off and on about 5 or 6 times late yesterday. It was food colored, mixed with some foam, no blood or anything odd, so I stayed with him last night until he settled down. During the night I checked on him and he was following me and perky so I figured he was okay, Deb said he was the first one in the kitchen to eat (as usual), he ate breakfast and seemed okay but a few minutes ago he threw up again, all food. Should I be concerned? Do you think it was from greasy chicken? I'm going to call the vet when they open but just wanted to see if anyone else had anything like this before, Deb said that the other day one of her mother's cats did the same thing, throwing up just about every 15 minutes.

Thank you!

I also wanted to say that he DOES have an interest in eating and drinking, so that is a good sign as I know we can't let him get dehydrated.

If he wasn't vomiting before you gave him the greasy chicken then that's probably the culprit. Was it seasoned? The reason I asked is because it's possible there was something in the seasoning that didn't agree with him? I'm glad you've been monitoring him and will check with the vet this morning. Please keep us posted on what they say and let us know how Sylvester is doing. :alright:

It had a coating on it but I didn't give him any pieces that had any on it but the flavor could've came through anyway. But it was greasier than usual, I even felt a little uneasy in the guts afterwards so it probably was that.

He was standing by his bowl as usual when I was leaving for work, wanting some treats, but I couldn't give him any and it broke my heart! But I "told" him why I couldn't, hopefully tonight he can tolerate a few.

Thank you!

I got home a bit ago and Deb said that he was running around and ate and seemed fine thank God, I have been thinking about this most of the day! The vet also left a message and said it should pass in a day or so, but if it lingers of course then they would like to see him. But it was either that greasy chicken and/or he had a bug that he had to have come out, but so far he seems like his old self, begging for treats as usual but I hesitate to give him any but he'll probably win that war lol!! :clapcat: :dizzy:

He was good until I came home tonight, he ran down to greet me and promptly threw up lol! Deb said he was running around before that and swatting at some of the others so maybe he just ate too much too fast....:dizzy: :gaah:

One my cats had a troubled tummy and my vet had told me that if the food is digested and it comes back smelly and chewed up, it is most likely a bacteria from something they ate. If it came back up looking like it never went down, it never digested at all and in most cases because they ate too fast.
What I always do when they start having the runs or throw up, is make an appt 2 days away...if it subsides on its own then I can always cancel ... but I always feel better when I know I have the appt set. I always keep a close eye tho.

Thanks for the information! He was good for a day, then has little "episodes" most likely because he isn't over it quite yet but he eats more than they said to let him have, but with 9 cats we really can't conrtrol it plus the others need to eat. They did say to limit him but that won't happen. He is fine otherwise, really good, and this might take a few more days just like humans when we get sick, it takes some time. But we are monitoring him and of course if this lingers we will contact the vet, but that means catching him and taking him and that is ALWAYS an adventure lol! So we REALLY hope this calms down so we can avoid that! :runaround: :help: :eek2: :clapcat:

I bet something in the chicken, some spice, didn't agree with him and cascaded into all this. Homeopet on Amazon has drops called Feline Digestive Upsets, you might try it, I have had success with many of their products. If you don't do Amazon, it is most likely on other sites too. He should be getting over it by now, my cats usually throw up after something doesn't agree with them for 24 hours or so, and then it quits. ALWAYS starts at 2 in the morning! He may have had a touch of stomach flu and this really set him off. I pray with 9 cats it doesn't spread!

Lol I know. I have 7 and there is always something. When mine get these things and don't eat, I boil them chicken. It always seems to bring them back to ok. No spices, just boiled. And the non sick ones benefit lol. And I always have probiotic on hand. You can get them from Amazon. Purina fortiflora. It helps stabilize the good and bad bacteria.

Thanks for the replies! He seems pretty good but like I said he is supposed to be eating only half portions of his normal amount but that's not happening! Must've been something in that greasy chicken or like Di and Bob said he might have had a bit of a bug. I didn't know that there was probiotics for cats, I take them but didn't know they made them for them too, I'll have to look into it.

Thanks again!

Last night he was eating dry food and a bit later Deb said that he threw up a LOT and it was all dry food, but he has been fine since the other day, I think he might just be eating too fast and too much as he is just fine in all other ways, but if this pattern continues I will contact the vet again.

Strange....
