Could this be Lymphoma rather than IBD?

My gal has been battling constipation, regurgitation and recently started vomiting white foam.

We took her to vet and ultrasound showed 0.3mm thickening in the GI which is same as last month. Current meds are budesonide and cisapride. Biggest concern is weight loss. She was 8.6 a month ago and now 8.3. Her original weight was 9.5 three month ago. Is she leaning towards lymphoma rather than IBD? We are worried. Of course biopsy is not an option. She almost died from surgery when she had hairball obstruction

So sorry about your kitty. There is no way to know for sure without a biopsy. For Wizard we treated for it as small cell because he could not do the biopsy. He only lived a few months from the time chlorambucil started and he was already on prednisilone maybe. He also had kidney disease and anemia. Has she been diagnosed IBD? How long has this been going on, how old is she etc. have you tried diet changes. Has she been tested for other possible causes?

With the biopsy a positive is positive, but a negative doesn’t necessarily mean negative. I have not done biopsy on my own cat with suspected lymphoma because of this and that my personal belief that the stress of anesthesia could lead to a deterioration in her health.
Be careful with the Cisipride. It should only be used if the stools are soft.

She was diagnosed in September with endoscope biopsy and the tissue report says likely IBD but it did not say anything about lymphoma. Biggest concern is now losing weight and regurgitation. We just did full GI panel so am waiting for the result.

Shes is on Visbiome but it seems like shes regurgitating food when added to food. We also have Proviable but that made her constipation worse. Will need to inquire Vit B12 when the GI panel results come in. Thank you

Hi Catmom, sorry to hear about your cat. I have a cat who had large cell lymphoma and the recent symptoms sounds like what my cat had when he was diagnosed with early cancer. It may be that the issue has only recently turned that direction and you would have to scope and test her again to know for sure. If you want to fight cancer it’s better to do it soon. On the other hand, scoping might also find it’s not cancer and give you some other idea for what can be done to help.

I’m sorry about your cat. Initial biopsy didn’t indicate lymphoma but rather IBD. The vet is concerned because she is losing weight.

May I ask what were the symptoms of your cat and how LCL diagnoses was made.

No need to be sorry….Simba was lucky. He survived it and still lives. He celebrates the two year survival point on Thursday. Here’s his story if you’re interested.

Simba had struggled with gastritis flares since he was 8. Each time I would put him on Famitodine (antacid) and Cerenia for two weeks and it would calm down. He also had food sensitivities so I had him on hypoallergenic food. At 13 years old, over a period of about a month to a month and a half I saw him start leaving some food behind, then he had what started as a flare and didn’t stop after two weeks on the usual regime. In the next couple of days I saw clear vomit not only in the morning, but in the afternoon. Then there was one with a pink tinge to it. As soon as I saw the pink I called my vet and explained the development and asked for an endoscopy. There was a small bleeding lump in his stomach wall. They took samples and he was diagnosed with large B-cell lymphoma. I caught it early.

Hi there, our kitty's GI panel came back but we don't have a lab report to post as our vet is on vacation. She did however send us an email saying her cobalamin is normal but folate is mildly elevated. She did not discuss further as she will touch base next week. Her pancreatic enzyme and EPI test came back negative. What does this mean? We did some research but couldn't find answers for normal Vit B12 but elevated folate level. Thank you very much

Interpreting lab work is not really a one size fits all. It think it's best to wait and talk to your Vet when she returns next week. Hoping it means nothing to worry about, especially since she said it's mildly elevated vs highly elevated.
