Well, I did manage to put the turkey breast in the fridge yesterday, so he'll be ready to go by Thursday ( or early Friday morning, for me). I'll bake the pie tomorrow. I haven't yet decided whether I'm going to make cornbread dressing from scratch, or just open a package of Stove Top stuffing. It's just me, so I may take the easy way out. I have a feeling that a full dinner would lay me out for two days.

I seem to recall a while back we had a thread about a device you could put in your yard that would hiss at intruding cats, but I can't seem to find it now. Does anyone else remember this thread?

I seem to recall a while back we had a thread about a device you could put in your yard that would hiss at intruding cats, but I can't seem to find it now. Does anyone else remember this thread?

Petsafe Ssscat is a compressed air motion sensor thing that "hisses", not sure if it's ok for outdoor use though. Maybe on a porch.

There's also the Havahart Critter Ridder, which is a motion-sensor sprinkler, basically.

W Willowy , thank you. I doubt that the Havahart will work in Colorado in the winter; no one wants frozen water lines (we blow out our sprinkler systems every autumn) and the person who's looking for a solution wouldn't want to spray water on a cat in freezing weather. I think the Petsafe Ssscat is what I was looking for. One of my neighbors is having a problem with a cat who comes around at night and engages in loud arguments with her cat, keeping her awake. The only problem is that it sounds like she'll need to get one for every window. Well, all I can do is put the information out there for consideration. Wonder if she could get a discount for buying in volume.

Had a fairly major turkey disaster yesterday and still trying to figure it out. Tested the breast meat and a thigh and they were way above the “done” temp. But after I started carving I saw that the underside of the turkey and one leg were nearly raw. Managed to salvage enough breast meat for dinner but didn’t trust any of the rest.

I am wondering if I have an oven heating element on the one side that has gone bad. Seems like the only explanation for such uneven cooking.

It seems likely. I heard a show on NPR the other day where they were talking about making a "map" of the temperatures in various parts of your oven. You get a loaf of white bread and spread the slices around on your oven rack, then turn the oven on. (Should probably do this 2 times - once with it set to "Broil" to check the top element and once with it set to "Bake.") Then you wait until you smell burned bread, turn the oven off, and look inside. The color of the various pieces of bread will tell you where your oven is hottest and coolest.

Thanks Margret! I have been trying to think of ways to test it and the bread sounds like a great start. If it wasn’t the heating element the only other thing I could think of was the pan sides were too tall but that seems a long stretch since the one side cooked well.

I did a ton of online shopping today, and most didn't even end up being on sale, lol. A new car seat and a snow suit as Christmas presents for J, a nice dress, two other Christmas outfits, a birthday outfit, invitations and decorations. And a few new nursing camisoles for me. And a Christmas present for my nephew.

I'm realizing I'm coming up on her last first holiday and my baby's getting close to becoming a toddler and I kind of want to go all out.
