Didn't know where to post this here in What's for Dinner? or in Thanksgiving Dinner. WfD seems more active so here's today's Thanksgiving dinner.

We decided that this year staying home was the prudent way to celebrate. Twenty other people, adults and children, at least one adult not vaccinated, no quick tests mentioned, weather chilly enough that we'd be indoors - nope, no way.

I did two fresh duck breasts - sear in cast iron pan skin side down to melt out the fat, turn over, turn back and finish in a very hot oven.

Wild rice. Don't know who else might have ever enjoyed this native North American grain. Very nice, also expensive, special treat.

Braised carrots. Brussels sprouts. Sour cherry "side" to go with the duck rather than something cranberry.

Dessert, or so a friend once told me, is spelled with two ss-es so you can ask for seconds. Not today. Today we had two desserts. Well brandied fruitcake from last year, periodically taken out of the refrigerator and baptized again since last December. Also a flourless chocolate orange cake with creme Anglaise flavored with dark rum.

Dishes are dealt with. Pots can wait until tomorrow.

We're having our Thanksgiving on Saturday, and the kids will be here,so dinner for us was hamburgers. He didn't want oven fries.I made some rosemary/raisin rolls today that are spectacular,so we split one.Oh my!And I made him his beloved apple/golden raisin pie,so he had a small piece for his dessert.

I don't celebrate Thanksgiving anymore.
I'm in assisted living and the only thing they had for me for their Thanksgivivg dinner was a piece of cornbread. There were only about 15 people in the dinning room. The lucky ones got to leave and have dinner with family and friends. Me and 2 other residents left the dinning room without eating because they were taking forever to bring any food. I went back to
my room amd had triscuits, provolone cheese, olives and vegan mayo. I also had diet coke and Wegmans chocolate chip cookies for dessert.

Wow, they could have made a little more effort than that, since they have known you are vegetarian for a long time now. Sorry about that. But at least you had a nice snack plate back in your room. Cheese is always good. I need to get some more fun cheeses. I stopped for a while because it was getting expensive.

My oldest daughter and I had an untraditional but delicious veggie Thanksgiving dinner - kale salad with carrots, raisins & granny smith apple slices, squash stuffed with wild rice, lentils & mushrooms, veggie & chickpea pot pie and stuffing.

DH had a more traditional Thanksgiving dinner.

Pretty much everything I had talked about in the Thanksgiving thread. I added pickled eggs, took away the pumpkin pie and made individual pumpkin custards with whipped cream instead.

BTW, Rick had THREE pieces of his cheesecake tonight!

Our Thanksgiving "dinner " was a late lunch at my parents' house (I was able to eat turkey, broccoli, stovetop stuffing, strawberry jello and the cookies, rolls, and pecan pie I brought. J also had some canned cranberries, but I don't like those. No gravy, cheese sauce, or pumpkin pie for me), so for my actual late dinner in was just a bagel and cashew yogurt again.

Hek and I are cooking now. We don't eat our big meal until 4:30 AM, so...It isn't that outrageous when you consider that we go to bed round 8:30 AM. Turkey breast, cornbread stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, and pumpkin pie. Oh...cranberry sauce.

Thanksgiving is in October in Canada, so yesterday was just a regular Thursday. Finally got motivated to make something quicker than microwaving leftovers, and made my Edamame and Mushroom fried rice. Makes enough for 2 servings, so same for tonight.

Did your sister and brother-in-law stop by to visit you or are they coming another day?
No. They went to my nephews house for dinner. I didn't go because I can't do steps. Also, the kids have not been vaccinated and I have not had my booster yet. Covid has been going around here again and I didn't want to take a chance of giving it to them. I was a little hurt that no one came by to see me or drop off some food. They know I have a problem with the food here. My brother and his wife live about 5 minutes from here. They didn't bother to come by either.

For some reason people here think all I have to do is pick out the meat in a dish to make it veretarian or they can't understand why I won't eat dressing.

Also, I got into a confrontation with another resident last night so I just left without waiting for my "Thanksgiving" dinner. I usually sit at a table in the corner by a window. For some reason Janet has decided that I was not to sit there anymore. I sit in my wheelchair at the table but last night she had 2 chairs piled up where I sit. When I started to move them she said "I hope you don't think you are going to sit there?" I said yes indeed I was going to sit there. She gave me the finger and called me a bitch but I pulled up to the table in my wheelchair. I know she has dementia and I should have let it go but I was in a bad mood and I was determined she was not going to push me around. I've seen her stab a table with a knife, throw a glass at one of the servers and slap someone. One of these days she is going to really hurt someone.

Leftovers tonight. The cranberry balsamic chicken came out well. The recipe says it only takes about 12 minutes to cook the chicken through but it took closer to 20 minutes for me. The sauce got a little too thick in the process :ohwell: The sauce was a little too sugary. Next time I'll use less honey instead of the full 2 tablespoons. I still have rice pilaf to go with it.

BTW, M maggiedemi look what I saw at Trader Joe's today:

I did not buy any. Not fan of spicy chips.

Yum, my 2 favorites!

look what I saw at Trader Joe's today
I love Ghost Pepper! It's like 1 million on the scoville scale. 🔥

Lunch: Veggie Sammich- Dad's homemade bread, forgot to toast it, horseradish mustard, Baron's Blazing Hot Sauce, finished up the hot Okra Pickles, 1 hard boiled egg, slice Kraft Cheese, Trader Joe's raw unsalted Pistachios, Lettuce, Tomatoes. So glad these Okra Pickles are finally gone!!!

Dinner: Aldi Vegetarian Nuggets, French's Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce, Baron's Blazing Hot Sauce, canned Cranberry Sauce, Life Cuisine Chickpea Mac & Cheese.

I'm shocked that I hated all the frozen, shelf stable, and refrigerated Mac & Cheeses that I bought! I guess the boxed stuff is best. Or homemade. Maybe the sauce just sits on the noodles too long and makes it soggy.

Dressing actually does very well with vegetable broth rather than meat broth. You just need to season it a bit differently, but it is GOOD! I'd love to make some of my cornbread dressing from scratch for you. I think you would like it.

Lunch was dressing and mashed potatoes with gravy, and green bean casserole. Supper will be turkey sandwiches.

I had some white cheddar style daiya "mac and cheese " with leftover turkey and rolls. J loved the fake mac so much she painted her hair with it. This child doesn't know what she's missing - it wasn't that great compared to the real thing.

My sister used to make vegetarian stuffing and gravy for me on the Hollidays. They were so good.

I would love to have some of your cornbread. Lately I've been craving cornbread. We had it yesterday for lunch. A lady I sometimes sit with puts it in a bowl of milk. Yuk.

Last night I had tomato soup, grilled cheese and coleslaw.
