Hey everyone, I just put up this thread regarding the problems I am encountering with supply shortages(cat food) that is currently going on. I was already struggling with being on a tight budget and having many more cats to feed than last year---the food shortages is the latest challenge. I would like your input regarding this matter. I really appreciate it. ❤
Is Anyone Else Struggling to Get Enough Catfood with the Current Supply Shortages we are Encountering?
Oh dear, I know you don't want to but maybe with a go-fund-me, etc... account you could get larger orders from Chewy, Amazon, etc... :bouquet: :heartshape:
I have been seeing lots of shelves bare of the ff type Gypsy likes. Luckily I've been stocking up and also have found she will eat the Sheba cuts with gravy. Can only imagine how heartbreaking for you with so many to worry about :catlove:

Hope everyone is fine here, especially Jcatbird Jcatbird .

Whenallhellbreakslose Whenallhellbreakslose I am having the same issues here. It is very stressful not being able to get my cats' brand of food from the shelves, knowing fully well that even when hungry, my cats would never touch other types of cat food.

I also want to share with you all my experience yesterday and let me know your comments:

Remember the latest kitty I managed to get off the street? Turned out he has an "owner", but I am still perplexed why a cat with an owner was always hungry, seemingly thin and dirty, and was running out in the streets every time I saw him. Well this "Owner" apparently saw Marble (the kitten) in my catio while my husband and I were at work. Without permission, he took Marble from the catio, almost damaging the mesh wiring and risking my other cats' safety as well. When we came home, I saw Mable running outside and I panicked, initially thinking he escaped on his own. This guy (owner) approached my husband and told him not to contain his cat and to just "let them be free", and my husband told him that we did not know there was an owner.

My points are below:
1.) He should have waited for us to come back before touching any part of our apartment including the catio. The probability of any of my indoor cats to also have escaped was too high.

2.) I was also feeding 2 of his cats outside twice a day, everyday, He knew about it and yet not once had he told us a simple "thank you." His cats were always hungry and were regulars in front of our apartment or at our mini terrace. I do not do selective feeding of outside cats.

3.) I met him a few days back while I was feeding the colony outside. He only mentioned he owned one of the cats (the one with a collar, so obviously I knew from the start that it has an owner), and he never told me about the kittens.

I was very upset last night and just thinking of any or all of my cats out there getting lost or hit by a vehicle was too much for me. I was planning to report him to the police but my husband said no.

If he damaged your catio you could file a poice report but if he is psyco enough to allow his poor cats to get in that condition he is psycho enough to retaliate. Can you talk to him mention you recorded him damaging your property to remove a cat that had been reported to the Animal Protective League for neglect, spoke to your lawyer and he could face charges. Also telling him that if any of your cats had been injured HE would have had to pay the vet bills. I can see both your and your husbands sides. I tend to fly off the handle and would get in the idiots face and read him the riot act, probably threatening him and getting myself arrested. Hopefully Jcatbird Jcatbird will feel well enough to help. She could charm the birds off the trees and can give advice to win him over and get that poor kitty cared for.

My husband is hindering me to do anything although last night I was screaming and everything, too upset to even eat my dinner. My catio is being fixed now. If I could I'd put electric shots there so he would not be able to touch it anymore. I agree, he is a psycho. He claims those are his cats but cannot take care of them properly. This morning when I opened the terrace curtains I saw his adult cat, and 2 of the kittens begging for food again. I told myself not to feed them, but acted otherwise.

Why on earth would anyone "not want" Emily??? That's just WRONG!!!
How can I explain - they would all love to have Emily, if only she was a bit more friendly. She's not a bad looking cat. But she is a one-human cat - and that human is me. But, I don't brag about it - she refuses to let anyone else touch her - but that doesn't mean I don't have to be careful. Perhaps I can read her better than anyone else and know when not to push my luck. When I was away for 6 weeks - hospital and convalescence - my daughter looked after her but made no progress. Emily accepted food but still greets her with hissing and a mighty swipe if she gets too close. We do try sitting together and stroking her - but as soon as she realises that it's not my hand caressing her, she can be very mean. She is one of my fosters who was determined to stay once her kittens had gone, hiding when anyone showed interest in her. She's been with me for 7 years. Hopefully Tiffany will be easier to find a new home for, but they are very similar.

By the way, the local shelter only consists of voluntary helpers willing to foster animals. True ferals, who cannot be released where they were trapped, are taken to the state shelter where, once they are acclimatised, can choose to leave to live completely feral in the very large park, or return by cat-flap to the shelter for food and warmth. Sometimes, when we have no more space for foster cats, we do take stray young cats to the state shelter, knowing that they will be adopted quickly. Older cats, like Emily, are normally fostered locally before being given up free-of-charge to suitable seniors. Medical treatment will often be paid for (or subsidised) by the local shelter. I have done my share of fostering and am fairly certain Emily will be well-taken care of by the experts! But, I'm still determined to live on, so it might never happen!

Jcatbird Jcatbird : Hope you're doing ok, and that each day is a bit better than the one before. Hugs ...

Whenallhellbreakslose Whenallhellbreakslose : I only need to buy food for 1 cat, and it's been stressful when it was out of stock. Thankfully I found something that agrees with Ruby's system, however, it's pricey, which is fine when only feeding one cat, but not when you're trying to feed neighbourhood ferals. So I feel for you with the food shortages right now. I'll check out your thread, and add a couple thoughts I have there. Hugs...

Maria Bayote Maria Bayote : what a horrible predicament for you. I don't understand why people have pets, if they can't be bothered to care for them. Unfortunately, I don't have any helpful advice to offer. Hugs...

gilmargl gilmargl : thanks for fostering the kitties. Hopefully they all find homes. Hugs...

My boy's stock comes from one supplier with a good price and I have another supplier on standby. There was once or twice stocks ran out form the regular supplier and I have to get it from the other which is more expensive but I have no choice. At least my boy has his food.

Thanks. I hope it doesn't come down to that. The cats do eat a lot in the winter because of the cold, so I am worried that I can't keep up. I need to shop where the discounts are because of the number of cats I am feeding. I am feeding 6 more cats than last year and I am dealing with some large cat bullies that I have to watch like a hawk and play food bowl referee with so the other cats get their fill. It is a daily challenge.

Thank goodness you are able to stock up in the midst of these shortages. I hope and pray this doesn't get any worse. Well, take care.🙂

You realize that now Banjo will be blaming all card and online purchases on aliens
Sounds like a plan. Banjo & I can order all the cappuccino, hot sauce, & fancy cheeses we want now. ☕🧀🌶

I guess he actually put his best foot backwards?
Keep going. Keep trying. Get it done. Even if you gotta do it backwards. 😉

I just put up this thread regarding the problems I am encountering with supply shortages(cat food)
I gave up on getting canned cat food at Walmart, it is always out of stock. Now I just order a 24 pack on Amazon or Chewy. Friskies Chicken Shreds. For dry food they will only eat Purina Cat Chow Complete in the blue bag and Purina One Hairball. So far I have been able to find everything okay. I see some of the bag sizes of Purina One Hairball are out of stock. Guess I will have to get the HUGE bag!

Bless you for filling empty bellies I'm assuming mama still isn't fixed? We have a local APL in town if you have one you could contact them and perhaps they could work on the idiot for the cats welfare. Are your local PD friendly? Maybe there is a law reguarding neglected animals. Probably not a good idea but sending a bill for the catio repair and the food would be right. Does your state offer free legal advice? He trespassed on your property. Hang in there. You know where to come to vent.

I hope everyone else can get through this supply shortage situation with minimal damage. It is people like me who feeds a lot of out door kitties and people like Jcatbird who has a multicat household that will feel the brunt of this situation. I hope and pray things improve soon. 🙏

M maggiedemi it is good to see you back on TCS. :hellosmiley::welcomeback2: Hope all is well. You were missed.
Maria Bayote Maria Bayote Uggghhhh!! People like that guy really disgust me! He is a very irresponsible cat owner and should not give you any grief whatsoever. To go onto your property and break into the Catio to retrieve the cat he claims is his--is trespassing! I know you live in another country. Do they have trespassing laws there? Also, he damaged something on your property, that too is another violation. The fact that his cats are thin and always hungry and he knew you were feeding them shows he was taking advantage of your kindness. Shame on him! Has this man ever spent a dime on these cats? If he barely feeds them, you can be sure he never spent a dime on them. Are they desexed? If not, that is another indicator of irresponsible pet ownership. Over here the true legal owner of an animal is who paid for vet bills. If two people fight over ownership, it always comes down to who paid the vet bills.

The cats that were dumped on me were originally from a previous feeder who left the block. Right before they left the block the spoke with a family member of mine numberous times asking if I could take care of them. My f.m. told them I had other cats I was taking care of. When they finally moved away, the other feeder feed them. However, little by little cats were on my door step begging for food. I feed then and then more and more cats kept coming my way that was the previous feeders. I called the other feeder out on dumping cats on me and she got vicious and turned people on me. I believe the plan was to alway to dump those cats on me. Now I am feeding all the former feeders cats and some of the other feeders cats. It us very stressful and I don't know of this other feeder will dump ALL her cats on me as well. Irresponsible people just sickens me. I am suffering because of these kind of people. So I feel your pain. I hope you can deal with this situation and come out with the upper hand. Take care.

Just here for a few minutes everyone! So sorry but much happening here. I just want to thank everyone. The darling photos, videos and love with prayers keep me going. Thank you!!!!!
M maggiedemi So very happy to see you my dear friend! You have been greatly missed and we need you here. It lifted my heart to see you.

Maria Bayote Maria Bayote Please take this to heart. That kitten and other kitties need your help but you must act with great care. You can only help them if you don’t cause the human to feel vengeful. He already broke in. Sometimes we have to use a bit of care and psychology. Attempt to work with him rather than fight him. Be pleasant and innocent. Compliment his kitties and let him know you had no idea that the kitties had a human. Tell him you know he must be a good person to love cats. I know this may or may not be true but trying to build love can work. However, fighting someone unbalanced is never a good idea. Convince him that treating the kitties well makes him the hero. Hard to bite your tongue? Yes. Definitely. We only do this in order to keep all kitties safe until he tires of them….. and he probably will. He already allowed you to feed one cat. He is very likely to let more and more of their care come into your hands. In the meantime, see if you can find another location to slip them away to when he loses interest. You must be very careful to do this without him feeling you are taking from him. He may be the kind of person who mistakenly thinks they want to run wild and without proper care. “Just cats.” Sadly, some humans do think that way. I have had more than one cat turned over to me voluntarily by a person who first refused to let go. I understand how trying this is and how much it puts worry in our pocket. I also know that you don’t want him to spirit them away or cause them ,or your cats, harm. Patience. Bring out the deepest patience you can find and put on your friendliest face in spite of what you know. It is only slightly possible to educate someone who breaks in but not impossible. Perhaps he felt “his” kitten was stolen. People often claim cats as property. We all know that is not right but he may need to learn that. Attempt to , very carefully educate, and if that does not work, the fact that he sees you respected “his property” and did not try to steal it away may help later. Give it a chance. While you work to build a bridge to save the cats, you can look for help. Look for a home to help them disappear legally. Tread carefully and put your anger into patience. He must not ever feel a need to blame you or turn on your catio again. Perhaps an alarm of some sort is possible? Unfortunately, this kind of situation can be part of rescuing too. The end goal is to preserve life and provide the best we can. Do that and more can come later. My heart is with you more than I can possibly convey. Been there and beyond.

My brother survived the surgery today. Considering everything he had to overcome, this is huge.

I saw a new eye specialist and am hopeful for a new path. Still waiting for labs on my foot.

I have a lead on a home for Surely and Marcus. Remains to be seen. Have been trying to help someone with a cat search without walking. Armchair search. Way too much going on to relay and some that is better not relayed.

As for cat supplies, a friend feeds many and she has begun mixing canned chicken and rice in with dry food to stretch the budget. Where she lives, Canned chicken for humans is more available to her than canned cat food right now. We do the best we can. I am finding short supplies too Whenallhellbreakslose Whenallhellbreakslose Prices rising. A lessser quality food may be the need right now but maybe you can add cooked white rice with a bit of cooked chicken to stretch it and keep it tasty. I know this is not what you choose but better than empty tummies. If the cats are hungry, they will be grateful for anything offered. Rice can still be bought in big bags. I know that is not ideal but ….. let’s hope things will improve for us all. I believe! I believe! :hugs:

Thank you everyone! Happy Gotcha days to Ruby and Gracie!!!!

I am guarded! Lol

This shift consist of…..unusual mix! Lolololol
