This is Ariel, she's a rescue. We got her June 11, 2020, had her spayed in August, 2020. We got her when she wasn't ready to leave her mom, but they said they couldn't find the mom. She wasn't focusing well yet and was a little clumsy, so I was assuming she was about 4 weeks at that time. Within a week or so, her aim and physical prowess increased fast with deadly accuracy, she's a mouser or anything that moves. She can jump from the floor to the counter that's as high as my waist and she's very "hunt, attack, play" ALL the time. I do as much as I can to help her burn all that energy she always has or she'll start trying to play fight me roughly. She brings blood. The picture of her lying on the floor is when she just finished burning off some of that energy.

Sadly, she's not a lap cat, but she will lay on the bottom on my chair when I have the foot up and will sleep at my feet or behind my legs. Can't hold her or handle her too much, though, so when she's on the counter begging for "treats", that's when I'm able to love on her. I just can't pick her up unless I'm quick about it and protect my hands. She will bite, but she's still sweet when she wants petting.

When I took her to the traveling vet for shots, she said she looked asybinian. Also, her hair is white up against her body, it might not look like it, but it's so white, it almost looks clear. She has a beautiful coat with such pretty colors.

So do you guys think she has some asybinian in her? I've heard they don't get along with other cats. Is this true? I don't want to get another cat if she's not going to get along with it. Thanks for any information you can give me.

In addition, she doesn't have much of a meow. She more or less chirps with a kind of purring sound, especially when she's playing or sees something she wants to pounce on.

Beautiful cat. She's a Domestic Shorthair, no specific breed. I do not see any Abyssinian traits in her. Her color/pattern is brown patched tabby and white. The white roots make her a silver. If she were solid color instead of tabby it would be called smoke.

This is a picture of one of my Abyssinians.

As far as getting along with other cats, every cat has her own personality that does not depend on breed. One of my abys is a total lovebug and gets along with all people and cats. The other aby is great with some of my other cats and picks fights with others. :dunno:

Thanks for that answer. That color isn't brown. It's really bright orange, so she's been described as a calico, really pretty colors in person. I assumed she was a tabby with classical markings. It was the only think I could find with her markings. It doesn't matter, she's my baby anyway. I was just curious because she seemed to have a lot of traits, including personality traits that are abysinnian. A LOT. Thanks again!

Genetic black in tabby patterns is called "brown" in CFA and other cat associations, don't ask me why. She is "patched" because she has patches of red mixed in with the brown/black. Calico is a term generally applied to a pattern that has distinct separate areas of black, red, and white. When the red and black blend together it's called tortoiseshell. Your kitty has the mixed red/black pattern and only a small amount of white, thus the "and white" description. I used the patched tabby description because that's what is most familiar to me from CFA. She could also be called a tortoiseshell and white.

There are a number of different tabby patterns. All of these patterns can occur in many different breeds of cats including random bred.
Mackerel -- stripes
Classic -- swirls or bullseye pattern
Spotted -- just what it sounds like
Ticked -- each individual hair has bands of light and dark color

All Abyssinians are ticked tabbies, but not all ticked tabbies are Abys. I see some ticking in the red parts of your kitty, but that actually very common.

Personalities vary widely even within a breed. You'll just have to get to know your own cat as you go along.

Okay, probably more information than you ever wanted to know. Your baby is gorgeous no matter how you describe her. What is her name?

Thanks y'all, that helps. I originally thought when looking at her markings that she is a tabby with classical markings. She's about 16 months old now, I'm thinking. She does have ticking of her fur, her eyes are almond shaped and she doesn't meow, except for a purring chirp kind of sound, so I was trying to guess since the vet put it in my head. LOL! I really don't care what she is, I've just never had a cat so touchy. She's part of the family and we love her whether she likes petting or not. :)

Very nice torbie with white. With beautiful golden nuances. Although brown (ie black) tabbies, do often have a warm brown shimmer.
No trace of aby, as the others said. But if its important to you to label on some Ancestry, so sooner a bengal. Not that she looks alike a bengal, but it could explain these marvellous colors...

I think the vet wanted to say something pleasant, that is why shehe said Aby...

She looks to be like a primarily brown classic tabby with orange classic tabby patches and white. The short term would be patched tabby since calicos do not have brown patches

I don't know if Abyssinians are typically good or bad with unrelated cats, but they are very energetic and definitely NOT cuddly lap cats.

Whatever she is she is a beauty❤ I also don’t see abyssinian, but bengal is closer in looks in that fab pattern. She looks like a classic marbled tabby maybe caliby with all of the red.

Very pretty black tortie tabby & white, no hint of any Aby in her. Sounds like a lovely girl :)
LOL!! She's a brat! She's a little better as she gets older, but I've still got one bloody place on my arm when she grabbed my arm.

Classic is what I thought too with the swirls on her side and I love her colors.

Actually, the vet acted surprised with all the pretty colors. She was doing lines of animals so she was just commenting. I'm not trying to "label" her. I really don't care what she is, but the vet had me wondering since I'd already wondered with her pretty colors. As far as I'm concerned, she's just a pretty cat. :)

I'd say your vet has a lot to learn if she thought there was any resemblance to an abyssinian.

I've found that classic tabbies/torbies have much brighter orange coloring. . .not sure why. I suspect there somwthing in the classic tabby gene that enhances their colors. I have 4 kitties from the same litter, and 2 are regular torties, 1 is a classic red tabby (very dark orange), and 1 is a classic tortie (she's not a torbie but you can see the swirls in her orange areas), and she has MUCH brighter coloring than her sisters.

Yes, I would not call her a tortie.. she has too many clearly definedtabby stripes, and a clear marbled pattern, neither of my torties had that and their faces had clear tortie patterns and colors, they were more mottled overall and had little white, strictly speaking I was also told years ago torties are not supposed to have white.
