If not allowed you can delete and I apologize
Currently can't see a dentist mentioned below on why

I'm going to try to explain and describe this as best as I can

So my first molar on my upper left side seems to be expanding in size or getting bigger and the texture feels like sand paper it don't have holes in it as far as I can tell and its the only tooth doing it, it's been likes this for quite some time
Its doing it on the sides front and a bit on the back the bottom is unaffected, another ways I can explain it is like its like something in it pushing the tooth from the inside and pushing the walls outward making it bigger, or it feels like its gonna explode, unsure what the tooth actually looks like
It don't have pain to it but I can feel slight pressure from it only time it hurts if I touch it, as far as I can tell I don't have an abscess on my gum

I don't remember it being like that in September 2019 when I seen the dentist last on a attempted tooth pull,

Anyone have any ideas what it could be?

Fyi I'm trying to either get Medicaid to cover for me to get knocked out to get all my tooth pulled or a Dr to prescribed me something to calm me down to where I can get em all pulled no dentist won't do ANYTHING without either being approved ugh

All my teeth are bad but the first molar is the odd one, the other teeth are crumbling breaking decaying etc by the way I'm 28 and 3 dentist think my bad teeth are from an unknown genetic problem

Does any of this make sense?

I'm terrified of dentist to the point every time I go my body locks up etc and its almost ambulance time

Wow. I'm really sorry that this is happening to you! I don't have personal experience of what you're describing but hope my response will also get others to respond and that hopefully someone can give you some help.
I have had really good luck by calling 1-800-DENTIST right after I moved here and didn't know a good dentist. I tried the first one and they've been my dentists ever since. I need numbing for cleanings and they do it very expertly, so there is no pain.
For me, dental hygiene is extremely important because health starts with this. So I go every 6 months for a cleaning as is recommended for all adults.
I've seen ads for Aspen Dental and they say they work with patients on financial matters.
My mom had to get dentures and she always told me, "Whatever you do, try to keep your teeth." So I do. Having your teeth all pulled may be your best option if your teeth are not healthy, but I hope you'll discuss it with a dentist and really take some time to think about it before you resort to such a drastic measure. Dental implants are popular and superior to dentures, but they are expensive and I don't know that subsidized care would cover them.
I know it's easy to give advice, but do try not to stress out. This is something you need to do for yourself. When I'm facing something daunting, I remind myself that starting it is the hardest part and that I will come out of it on the other side. And then it'll be over and I try to do some little thing to reward myself for getting through it.

Aspen dental, Familia Dental and one other forgot the name of all say I'm to medically fragile to pull teeth awake meaning I need to be put under like I'm having surgery or while *sober * meaning I would need to be looped up on a benzo like clonazepam for example, also all 3 dentist told me NOT TO floss brush or use listeiren due to how my teeth is rotting out only thing I can use is salt water, also all 3 said I need all teeth pulled all are beyond of getting repaired due to tried getting a filling in one tooth and it caused it to crumble, all 3 even said my bad teeth are most likely from genetics and not from lack of oral hygiene so basically if I even brushed 3x a day flossed mouth washed every 6mo cleaning etc I would still have this problem, also my Medicaid in my state covers tooth extractions but not the same anatheshia they use when you get a leg surgery for example or unless your Dr can get it pushed and all that is a major difficulty and unlikely to happen ,also when I went to attempt to get my tooth pulled they had me fully numbed up but my body decided to go full panic mode lock up heart rate went high oxygen dropped major face numbness (not from the meds) hand numbness they made me smell rubbing alcohol to get me out of it something about the alcohol worked but they was VERY close on calling me an ambulance, also the tooth crumbled in the attempted pull they couldn't get it out all the Medicaid approved dentist refuse to see me or unless I have a benzo in my system 🤦, I'm going to try to get my Dr to prescribed me a benzo just for dental trips, its not money that's the issue its the dentist refusing is the issue, and I will be able to get dentures with Medicaid ,my mom got dentures on Medicaid and mg brother is about to get dentures on his he just had his teeth pulled and he had my problem either needing to be knocked out (not laughing gas) or high on benzos

I was just wondering why my 1st molar is the way it is since my other teeth aren't like that

I have a dental phobia, though it doesn't sound near as severe as yours, and it has helped me to bring a stress ball or a gob of play dough in with me to give my hands something to do and help distract me. I slso found a dentist that mentions on their website they're good with dental phobias.

This probably won't help you at this point, but I'm sorry you're going through this!

Thank you

The last time the dentist let my friend in there so I can squeeze the friend hand like a stress ball thinking that would help NOPE o.o ,they actually put me in the whole dental system as a *too medically fragile* where other offices see it when they look up my name etc 🤦

You're clearly a very special/unique patient. And subsidized is not made for that. It's low-quality, one-size-fits-all. But in this life, we must work with what we have and choose our best options if we have more than one.
Any general anaesthesia involves risk. That's why patients are required to sign a waiver before having it.
I do hope someone can help you to make the best decision for your health and your life.

Thank you

I have had leg surgery at 16 I did great while being under
Went under again right after I had my first kid (leaving those details out) I did great while under
Went under again for a colonoscopy did great

But for teeth OH MY GOD THE WORLD IS ENDING

I'm fully aware there are risks because my mom went in a 2 week coma after being put under for the first time in her life for open heart surgery to replace her aorta valve,

I didn't really make this post to ask for advice to "how to get it done" it was more what could be what with my 1st molar

It took a lot of courage to come here and post, I commend you for that.

I get the same way about doctors. I don't have a problem with dentists oddly enough. I've had several root canals, crowns, knocked out an adult tooth as a kid so dental surgery related to that, I also recently had a tooth randomly die for no apparent reason, so I also get dental problems. I'd guess the tooth is dead and falling apart a little more dramatically then others have before. It don't think the tooth itself can swell but the enamel might be falling apart and giving that illusion. I'd be worried about infection at this point because tooth infections are not to be taken lightly. You really do need to figure out an option even if it is asking a doctor for antibiotics until you can see a dentist (if they are willing).

Most areas will have dental schools in the general area. Most dental schools have training programs and lower cost dental services. A fully trained dentist oversees everything but the students do the actual work. It's tends to be a lower cost and they tend to do more cutting edge procedures. They may be a resource and you may be able to talk to them about payment plans since they aren't your traditional business dentist (they need patients to practice on).

I'd agree that pulling should be the last resort. But it sounds like you might be there but you should have a dentist make the call.

Thank you

I look into the student route and didn't really find anything
3 dentists all say they all need pulled, I rather be toothless then keep dealing with teeth issues

I get put on antibiotics every 6 weeks to every 8 weeks for various things like URIs and UTIs the most recent in the last week was due to a cat scratch that got infected so the random antibiotics prescribed for non teeth is also keeping the teeth infections away , I'm fully aware of how bad teeth infections can turn into it can lead to a heart infection (my brain went blank on the medical name)
And so on

I have a Drs appointment in November so I'm going to ask my Dr if I can get Benzodiazepines JUST so I can get my teeth pulled (dentist requirement) the issue is allot of Drs don't want to prescribed benzodiazepines due to the addictive effects which I understand if I can't get benzodiazepines from this Dr I been seeing for 4mos then I need to continue to fight insurance to cover anatheshia to get em pulled

My brother recently and my mom about 10years ago got benzodiazepines just to get their teeth pulled because they got my reaction while in the dentist chair

I'm actually seeing the same Dr my brother is seeing where he got his benzodiapines to get his pulled (he dont get them now since he is now toothless) and he went to familia dental where I went

I was prescribed atavan for anxiety and did develop addiction. I kicked by myself, cold turkey. It wasn't pleasant but I did it. Short term use shouldn't be a problem, I wouldn't think. Your doctor should be understanding of this once you explain as you've explained here what you are going to have done. Those three dentists should be able to send him their findings if needed, as well as any other dentist you see.

Yeah I wasn't planning on using the benzodiazepines (if I get em) for long term only on days of dental appointments where they need to do whatever in my mouth even a finger in my mouth sets me off 🙄 I'm fully aware how addictive benzodiazepines can be I seen allot of people get hooked and go down a dark road ,

I'm happy you was happy to kick it in the butt 🤗

I'm pretty good at knowing when my body is trying to get addicted to something even something stupid like salted ships lol ,

Like one time an ER Dr prescribed me a pain med that I was unware in that moment contained opiods in it after the first pill and before the next dose was due I felt a big erge to take more (I didn't ) and looked the med up I was pissed, I didn't take another after that first pill and I just suffered through the flu aches,

I havent abused any drug in my life and very paranoid over medications because I don't ever want to get addicted and start down that road because on how many lives I seen drugs destroy, I have no judgement on anyone who does drugs I actually hope they find the strength and get clean and have a better life I hope for the best for them ,not trying to change this into a drug discussion subject on a cat site I just needed to say that

I had my teeth pulled a number of years ago. I like you was looking for the cheapest place to go and the cheapest one for the dentures didn't have what they needed to put people out for the extractions. He gave me a prescription for one valium, I kid you not one pill. I think it was a pretty high dosage because it was a large pill. I took it an hour before the appointment and I got through it. Some places also use laughing gas, nitrous oxide. A lady that I worked with had the same issues with dentist anxiety and had extensive dental work done. Her dentist used laughing gas. It seems to have the same effect as the valium.

My sister had her teeth pulled and dentures made (which don't fit) some years ago. She has Medicaid, but that wouldn't pay for dentist. I think she had some kind of discount plan, but I know they did not knock her out, or pull them all at once, but she doesn't have dental anxiety. I will ask her about it when I talk to her later today.

It's a forum to share things. Thank you for your kind thoughts. Yeah, once I did that and also quit smoking some time ago I felt I was no longer enslaved. It's a powerful feeling.
Opioids are the most addicting! Anything from the poppy is. They have their place but they are very dangerous that way, especially for people with addictive tendencies.
In my medicine cabinet, I have aspirin and some herbal remedies. I won't take anything else unless I am forced to by a doctor in order to have an operation.

mewlittle mewlittle I have dental phobia and bad teeth, also. Mine is a very long story....
I have had a ton of work done on my teeth. I have had almost everything you can think of done..

In my honest opinion, if that tooth is as you are describing; I fear a dental abscess. Yes, an abscess. This is nothing to let go, and wait. I really do understand your anxiety. I feel for you.. I really do.. I have had abscesses also....I know how serious it can be.

First, please go to a dentist. You do not want the abscess going into your bloodstream, causing more issues.

With me, I finally found a dentist who understands me.. and staff, also.
I waited until I had a bridge come out... with no tooth under one area.. The next tooth had an abscess~~ did not know about that.

When I saw the dentist the first time, I just decompensated in the chair.. hysterically crying...
I do not want dentures, but knew that was the only possibility. This dentist is understanding.. giving me a percentage off, and only doing what is necessary at the time.. We are doing just maintaining and fixing things as they happen.

Dentists are very understanding.. They now have training in dental phobia. And use techniques which are not as bad as they were years ago..

As far as your situation. If there is a hospital with a dental school; I would go into the Emergency Room, and see what happens.. tell them you are having severe pain and fear an abscess and do not have a dentist.

As far as removing all your teeth at once.. I do not know... All I do know is that if you do not try, get a full evaluation, and fix your current issue with the tooth, things are going to get much worse..

I feel for you... I really do...

I hope I am not coming across as crass... I am not trying to do so...

Does Medicaid provide dental coverage? I am not sure about that. I think it may, in emergency situations... The only way to now is by trying a dentist... and not calling Medicaid...

(((hugs))))

I also know someone who goes to Gentle Dental and said they are very good, and inexpensive..

Like I said before many times here all the dentists refuse to see me or unless I get benzo or the clear to be knocked out so unfortunately if I do go they will tell me they can't do anything with out a benzo in my system or getting approved to be knocked out

The emergency room tells me they can't do anything for teeth and tells me to go to the dentist and when I tell them why I can't then their like "go see your dr" and when I go see my Dr they tell me to see the dentist and it goes in a round about way its annoying

I actually want dentures that's not my problem

Money isn't an issue due to Medicaid will cover it all as long as I get benzos or a Dr to listen to me to get approved to get knocked out

the dentists say they cant prescribe anything that would have to be my Dr

I don't know why I have to keep repeating myself

I am sorry if you feel as if you are repeating yourself.

There has to be a way for you to get through this. If not, then, can you call your PCP for a sooner appointment?

I am really surprised the ER is refusing to help you. Is this from a call or from a direct visit?

And I do not see why ALL the dentists in your area seem to be refusing you treatment; , without narcotic medications. Dentist can prescribe a lot of medicines.. Oral Surgeons can prescribe them also. Have you seen an Oral Surgeon?

If you do require full anesthesia, Perhaps the dentist/oral surgeon needs a clearance from your PCP... It may be a requirement before they do extensive dental work, while you are out.

Something just does not sound right, at least to me..

I am sorry you are going through this... I just do not want you to have more issues on top of your teeth....

Good Luck

The original point of your question was: """"Does any of this make sense?""""
To answer that: Yes it does.
It sounds like an abscess on a tooth whose root has already died. At least to me........

Another quote: """"" I didn't really make this post to ask for advice to "how to get it done" it was more what could be what with my 1st molar""""

My thoughts are: there is nothing you can do, by yourself. You need a specialist..

I also want to add Illinois sucks and 90% of Drs will mark you down as a drug seeker bc the dentist are to scared to prescribe anything because of the drug seekers and I g
I am sorry if you feel as if you are repeating yourself.

This just does not sound right.. With the Medicaid Insurance; Is there a nurse line associated with the insurance you picked? If there is, I would call them... or call Medicaid directly, or even the Attorney Generals office, in the statehouse.

Something just does not sound right, at least to me..

I am sorry you are going through this...
Illinois sucks and 90% of Drs will mark you down as a drug seeker bc the dentist are to scared to prescribe anything because of the drug seekers and I get treated like I'm Dr shopping when I'm not

The nurse line wasn't helpful

Direct in person visit

Oral surgeon can't see me due to Medicaid requirement for all patients have to have a paper from a regular dentist to give to pcp then PcP has to approve it then I have to go back to that same dentist to get the referral then I have to go back to the pcp for medical clearance then I have to wait for the oral surgeon to call me to make an appointment and all this has to be done within 30days otherwise it has to be repeated, my issue is I can't see the regular dentist with out that benzo script and I will have to make Medicaid cover the transportation through their medical transport which they are not approving rides or unless you are SEVERELY bad off health wise they even refuse my mom who is severely sick for a ride within a 20min ride

I'm better off getting the benzo and getting them pulled looped up I managed to get that 30 day pulled off once but I had to back out due to i found out i was 4 weeks pregnant that was 2 years ago

I have a Dr appointment with my current pcp in november that my brother also sees and I'm going to ask then about the benzodiazepines just for dental appointments my brother got that same Dr to help him out after fighting for about 5 years to get a Dr to listen

I wasn't asking for advice on how to get any of this done I was wondering what my tooth thing was this actually got me severely irritated

Also the issue is the drug addicts in Illinois took advantage over dentist and other type of Drs to the point they are scared to prescribe anything that is considered addictive

Oh, you're in IL. Me, too. Lol, our state is a mess at times.

I hope you're able to get the help you need. Maybe try another emergency room for the one tooth that's in the worst condition?
