I hated the chair. It hurt to sit in it. The lumbar support is very aggressive and inescapable. The bucket tilt that is supposed to make it easier to sit in that chair for longer periods of time is manipulated by your feet, your ankles more specifically. And I mildly sprained both ankles overdoing a run last month. The chair has been moved to the other side of my desk. I will figure out an amortization schedule e.g. how many hours do I need to sit in it per day or per week for me to feel like I'm getting my money's worth. Maybe it's not something I can just jump into and expect my back to get strong enough for it not to hurt. I probably need to change it up with my other chair several times a day until my sitting muscles don't complain so hard with the BackStrong.

We have recycling dumpsters in the community. I broke the box down and dumped it. When I get NC, I'll get her a shiny new supersize box from Staples if she finds my cat tree forest and Katris collection to be lacking. 😹
That's too bad about the chair! Do you really think that it's going to help you, if it feels bad to sit in it? Do you think selling it would be an option if not? I hate stuff like that. I don't have that happen much these days, but I used to occasionally buy things that turned out not to be good for me, and then I'd obsess over what a bad decision it was (aspy!)
Sorry you sprained your ankles!
Hmm. "NC" -- I like the sound of that ;)

There will be no NC until next year. I'm going to ride out the holidays unencumbered by a dependent. I'm also hoping for more clarity on the return to office situation and whether I'll ever be allowed inside the animal shelter again or if Zoom adoptions are the new normal. 🤦‍♂️

I don't know that I can get a price on the chair that would make me feel alright about taking the loss. Certainly that price won't change dramatically if I give it half a year. I'm hoping that the cost of the chair will motivate me to give it a serious chance, but also not torture myself with it like I first did. The chair is already "used" whether I try to sell it today or six months from today. But as long as I put some money into it, I should give it another go. It doesn't have to be a painful all-in or nothing. And anyway, I am not sure I would feel okay selling this torture device to someone else. They may think they want this chair and that it will do what they want. But then they'll think of how much they hate me as it hurts them all day. 🤦‍♂️ I feel like a sale of this chair must come with a liability waiver. 😹

The ankles are mostly better now. I normally did a trail run that's a loop on Sundays. That particular Sunday, I decided to do another lap through the loop. Yep, I doubled my mileage from one week to the next. No wonder my ankles didn't take too kindly to that. I have rehab exercises and they were helpful when I was doing them. Then I got to a point where they were "good enough" and I stopped doing them. I need to resume them so that I could feel ready to resume running again. I miss having a few hours away from my desk each week.

Wow. Sounds like an unpleasant experience (the chair). Hope it eventually has the desired effect. Was it recommended by a chiro or something? Or just a random choice?
Yeah, it's always best to keep up a routine. Any time I've had to spend a few days away from my weight bench, I wish I hadn't.

Just hoping you've got all your supplies in and all your errands done and can stay in today/tomorrow. Forecast doesn't look wonderful for you all up there -- unless you're a duck 🦆🌧🌧🌧

It’s a good thing my commute is ten steps from the living room. 👍 It’s also a good thing that I eat the same thing every day and have at least a week’s worth. I don’t have to leave my home except to check the mail once a day and buy groceries once a week. Listening to the rain last night, I was sure happy I don’t have to drive in it this week.

Krista MAY be thinking 'my dad is smart! He plans and he works from home so he can give attention to the highest PURRiority of all: ME!' :hearthrob: :kneading::hearthrob::loveeyes:
Substitute "every three weeks" for "every week" and you have my grocery-buying schedule. I eat the same thing every day for breakfast and lunch, except that it may be different fruit. When I finish a pineapple, I often have canteloupe. Or it may be a peach. Or a nectarine. On rare occasions, it may even be straweberries. Dinner is different things, though.

It’s getting close to heater weather. This will be the second winter the radiator goes through without its constant companion and snuggle buddy. 😿

2019:
Just a few days until her dentist appointment. But still have to keep her eating to get to it. Another feeding venue change that seems to have worked.

Yes! Glad you aren't out in a rowboat in the middle of the street 🌧 🌧 🌧 🚣‍♂️
Looks like that heater REALLY, REALLY needs a snuggle buddy, too. Just sayin' maybe year #3 will see this happen?:zzzcat:

Likely next Spring. Hopefully that will be another Covid lull and maybe I can actually get into the shelter to meet the kitties in person instead of a Zoom adoption. Zoom adoptions feel invasive and misguided. It’s not about me or my home. It’s about the cat. I never had to give a home tour at the shelter. 🤦🏼‍♂️😾 I would also want to adopt in good weather so that I would have a place to go when kitty drives me crazy and I need a break. Or we’re working on an eventual return to office (if that ever happens) separation training.

Good logic. Though I'd have a really hard time being catless for even one day, in your circumstances I'd agree. And yeah, it definitely is about the CAT. When I started online advocacy work and read/heard that most adoptions are now instigated online, I had a hard time wrapping my mind around that. I still do. It may be why so many adoptions turn around, and that is not at all cool. Cruising online does not seem to be the best start to wanting to share life with another living being. I see so many comments about the physical appearance and I think it's certainly difficult to really get a good idea of what someone is like based upon a photo or a video. Anything that superficial wouldn't lend itself to the deep bonding that should be the goal of anyone looking to adopt! I can say that black and tortoiseshell cats are my favorites aesthetically speaking, which is true, and that I love all cats, which is also true; but if there are a lot of cats in a shelter, what am I going to do -- just adopt the first black or tortoiseshell cat I come to? *Probably. Because I love all cats. And I absolutely want every cat to have a loving permanent home. But I just don't think that's the way to do it.*

Personally, I would love to adopt a cat from a cat cafe. For one thing, I know it will be a people cat because they wouldn't have her in the cafe otherwise. But those cats also tend to be a little older. Krista was still quite a handful at two years old when I picked her up. I wouldn't mind a 4 or 5 year old cat that's gotten some trouble out of their system already. Sowed some wild oats and looking for the lazy life. And if she's got the disposition for it like Krista did, we still may take staycations. I loved having Krista in the hotel room with me even if her pet fee was as much as an extra night. Another thought I had would be to see if the shelter or the cat cafe is ready for volunteers again so I can get an insider edge on adoptions. And my third strategy that I will deploy as I get closer to being ready will be to find local fosters on Instagram. Unfortunately, those tend to be kittens and I'm really not trying to adopt kittens this time around.

Your first and second strategies sound really great! Best Friends headquarters in Utah has cabins and they've also recently added a roadhouse where people can stay with a resident of their choosing. That's a great way to get to know a prospective adoptee.
Our most recent adoptees were 9 and 14 when they joined us. Not the usual, I know, but good fits for the family and just as wonderful as younger cats IMHO. Actually, Baby Su is more playful than Elvis. She's 17. She loves da Bird!

Playful is good. But Krista would bounce off the walls and get into all sorts of kitten-like trouble with chewing and shredding for her first year or two with me. It would be nice to get a cat after their chewing and shredding phase. Krista loved the da Bird until her final days. She was also a counter surfer until those final days and I'm okay with that too. Even though I haven't had a feline dishwasher in over a year, I still try to clean my dishes as I use them. I'm trying not to lapse into habits that need to be changed once more with the addition of fresh trouble. 😹

NO ONE cleans dishes like CATS clean dishes. *This may be a good thing. I guess it depends who you ask.* :kneading:🍽
