Thank you Jcatbird Jcatbird rubysmama rubysmama pearl99 pearl99 tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 for your advice, words of encouragment and support. I will keep looking in my area for help. At the very least try to get a Winter Feeder out here, which would be helpful. I hope I start seeing the light at the end of the tunnel soon. I was really down in the dumps yesterday, but I am feeling better today. Have a good weekend everyone. Take care. 🙂

There are (a lot of) days when I feel absolutely frustrated and like I'm living in a vast insane asylum where very few people have compassion, integrity, (un)common sense, logic, and personal responsibility. Most days, in fact. But it is what it is and this is where we are. We can't change the world. But we can do what's in our power to do each day. Like the parable of the starfish, saving one is saving one. We just keep doing what we can. Each one of us makes a difference and together, we make a bigger difference. Look at all the things that got changed in history because enough people cared to keep tilting at windmills!

BellaGooch BellaGooch It has been awhile! I was wondering how things are going there. Well, I hope. We missed you! The Clowder says they will share the heart with you. :hearthrob:

@Mamanyt1953:lol: Floof would save me if it got cold.

rubysmama rubysmama Nippon? Okay , maybe I can try those.Plants here have to tolerate extremes from too hot to too wet. Usually the ones I lose just rot. I can water the soil but I can’t Un water it. Lol

It is so uplifting to know that the shelter has made so much progress in the few years I have been aware of it. No kill and true TNR as well as doing spays and neuters for the public at a huge discount. I know of a very sick mom and babies that they kept until they were all healthy again and all found homes. This all from a shelter that was really struggling just six years ago. The director and others worked diligently to turn it around. I love those people!

pearl99 pearl99 Most people don’t know about the no kill rules. There are limits to what any place can do. There is the “shell game” too. Cats are sent off to other places to keep the “kill rate” down. Some go good places and other go to kill shelters where the numbers don’t have to be at 90%. I get “under radar” calls from some workers who tip off rescuers in order to try and get animals transferred safely or to uncover practices that are meant to deceive by low quality shelters. There was one a couple of years back that many battled to get cats out in time. Word was spread throughout this corner of the country. It’s a long story but individuals went in and took cats out but the car full. All were removed by the end of that battle. The shelter “ cleaned up” and by the next week, reopened under close scrutiny. tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 This would have been a bright spot to you. An army of humans descended on that place. Rescuers from very far away traveled there. I played a bit part myself. It was a United front that got this done. Others on TCS got involved too. Human nature started the problems but human nature stopped it too. There were people from coast to coast and even another country who got involved and saved those lives. When you see an event like that occurring and get to know how many humans took the bull by the horns , with little more than a day or two notice, it makes you feel very hopeful. I think that a large number of the population, when they know about it, will not stand for the reality of loss of life if they can stop it. It’s the hidden or disguised atrocities that are hardest to fight. We cannot always win but when things are made known and brought to the light of day, it’s hard for those with a heart to ignore the truth. People like Jackson Galaxy put things in the light. So, Whenallhellbreakslose Whenallhellbreakslose , you and all others involved in this are heroes. I know everyone tagged here has had the days of sadness. Every rescuer and cat lover does. Thankfully we have wins that keep us in the battle. Every life counts. One saved is one saved. To each of you here on this thread, you make a difference. You made a difference to me and to all the cats that passed through these doors. That’s way more than one. You make a difference in your own backyard, home and to many others online. Shall we start a total? It grows daily.:grouphug::redheartpump:

The power company trimmed limbs here. The company that did it left a mess and I notified the company. They assured me it would be handled quickly. Today I had to go somewhere in a hurry. First, I had to clear a path out! Fortunately none of the limbs were too heavy for me to move out of the driveway by myself.

There is one I would not dare to move. It is hanging from a power line! Maybe they will remove all this before dtought season. This is the exact spot where we had fire break out in the last drought. I’ll keep calling.

Silver Crazy Silver Crazy Well Hi! So happy to see you and yes, this was weird crazy! I am still in recovery mode and must avoid stresss. Lol No stress, just trees! That is strees?! Lol How is your beautiful bouncing kitty?
Finally getting time to be back on here so good to see you too..lol Work has been crazy and long hours working with the vrius lockdowns ETC. Only getting on TCS in spits and spats
My boy is doing so well, interacting with other people now and learning how to face rub and cuddle, just being a cat, but boy is he getting bossy and learned a whole bunch of different vocals and meows for different things at exceedingly loud volumes as per usual.
Starting full time harness, backpack and car training now with the warmer weather coming on, hope early next year we will be hiking together along the river or up in the hills.

My hurry today was to get my eyes going well and get Marcus to the vet. He has been sneezing, runny nose and last night it became congestion and not eating. Our precious vet let me get there when I could avoid the rain. Marcus is such a sweet one! He cooperated fully except for going into the carrier. Top loading! :yess: Banjo knew what she was doing when she chose these carriers. Lol Now if she will just admit she can drive and become my chauffeur when I need it….
We did get the drive cleared enough to get out and made it to the vet.

Top loading carrier? Pretty sneaky!

Vet??? Oh.

You touched me and now I have vet in me. Excuse me while I clean that off!
620AA6E9-F9D5-4609-892E-C8CB386420E3.jpeg

His exam went well. A bit indignant at the thermometer but then he noticed a jar of dog biscuits. He kept trying to get one! Lolol The vet broke one up snd dropped it into some dry cat food. Marcus was a bit put out that he had to pick out the pieces he wanted. The biscuits were “pure protein junk food” according to the vet. She laughed that Marcus wanted one since he hadn’t eaten.
AF7853FD-CCC3-4EB3-A2A6-641F47177395.jpeg

This vet is so great! Marcus knows it too.
89CED7FC-593E-4A4B-A2F5-3E2508E31554.jpeg

He lost two pounds since he has been staying next door. He also got a bit of virus or respiratory infection but no fever. He is on antibiotics since he is FIV.
4F87274A-BDB0-473A-8953-9ACCCD41A1E3.jpeg

All in all, he enjoyed the outing!
842D9AC3-35D9-435D-B4BC-6930B5031232.jpeg

Fortunately I have been keeping Marcus and Pawpurr isolated from everyone else and from each other. As long as Marcus can throw this off, we don’t have to go back but I will be watching Pawpurr. She’ll probably be going in for a check soon anyway. The vet suspects that Marcus has had dog food in the past. Perhaps part of his foraging for food before getting rescued. Hopefully he will get his appetite back now that he is on meds. He refused chicken last night so tonight it’s cat food and some tuna! Yum! Lol

Banjo is comsidering

Silver Crazy Silver Crazy I understand about busy. Lol Blue is talking more? I would love to hear that. If anyone has not seen him here, he is gorgeous! A rescue that has come a very long way. If you get time, a photo would be great! I would love to see photos as you go along. Harness and backpacking especially. That would be an amazing hiking trip. You know they make tents for pets now? I ,personally, would have the pet tent inside my own tent for safety. I know pup tents have been around a long time but that’s a different beast all together. For cats, maybe a kit tent?
I’m so glad you found the time to come. I’ve had you both on my mind a lot. It’s good to know things are moving at such a wonderful pace! Purrs sent!

Life is just not fair and it's so good to find a place (TCS) where people care so much. Hope!

I had not heard the starfish story, thanks for that video :redheartpump:!

OK...The CUTEST kitten has shown up at the back door for feeding. Still VERY shy. She (I'm pretty certain) is mostly white, with orange patches on both ears, a big orange patch on her right flank, and an orange and black ringed tail! NEVER seen markings quite like that! I may have to name her "Tortietail" and just call her "Torts."

Yes, rubysmama rubysmama , AI can distinguish! And yes, Jcatbird Jcatbird , we need those PURRsons to be named!!! Banjo is a PURRson of great beauty, imPURRtance and dignity! And Marcus? Adorable! Glad he is doing basically well and hoping you don't have to go back, even if he does want protein junk food for dogs! (My best friend in high school had a dog. She gave him Milk Bone biscuits -- and munched on them herself. She also shared her food with him. Mi hamburguesa es su hamburguesa (:barfgreen:) There was a Jack In The Box right up the block from her house, and we used to walk up there and get junk to eat. One time I asked if the rumor was true -- if the chain was owned by Ralston Purina. The guy said yes. So I guess it's not that outlandish to share junk food but it's better not to go there at all. ;)
Unbelievable about the power company leaving those limbs everywhere. Hazardous and very inconsiderate of them to leave the job half done! Around here, city crews do the tree trimming and they have a chipper truck that they feed the limbs into. That's probably used as mulch. We pay a lot for city services, but we can also see where our money goes, in part at least :insertevillaugh:.
We've had a little cat tent. It was really nice and it got a fair amount of use until it wore out and now I don't have a place for another one.
Yes, pearl99 pearl99 TCS is a very important and supportive community! I know we are all so glad of it. So now you've seen the starfish story -- a parable of wisdom!
Silver Crazy Silver Crazy We'd love pix of Blue! Very glad he is doing well and adapting to his new, loved and cared for life as part of your furmily.

Thank you Jcatbird Jcatbird for sharing "The Star Fish Story". Wow, out of the mouth of Babes comes such an innocent and pure way of perceiving things. How many adults throw in the towel and not see that although they are limited in what they can do, they still are making a difference. We can't save all, but we do what we can. Thank you again and thank you tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 for continuing to encourage me.

I just came from my Funny Video thread and Cat Lady Jan posted this hilarius kitty parody of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody. Absolutely hilarious!!!:lol2::flail: Enjoy Everyone!

pearl99 pearl99 Life is not fair. That was one of the first lessons I remember my mom teaching me. However, we must make the best of what we are given to optimize it. Not easy but the best route I know. The starfish story is courtesy of tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 I just found the video. There are many that tell it but I liked that one. As I am always saying here, every life counts. Every life. That story is a purrfect example. :hugs: TCS is so important for us. We can be the support that we don’t find other places. It certainly has meant a lot to me purrsonally.

tabbytom tabbytom Thank you! I did take care of my limbs while moving limbs. That was no treet doing that but at least I didn’t have to move a trunk! Lol Except for my own.

Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 Aww! The kitty sounds precious!!I know it is. The description sounds pretty amazing. I know you will get her past being shy.

rubysmama rubysmama Unnamed purrson!:flail:Love it!
Yes it kind of can distinguish. However, when I tried that it included Smokey. Not a tabby! Lol
Impurrfect?
41F294DD-128B-4265-BBAC-EFA07B160344.jpeg

Looks like I have a few cat pics so maybe the system was just overloaded?

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 They do need to be named in my system. I had typed a label for Banjo before which must be why she turned up as a purrson but it didn’t “take” when I just typed her name. Not sure why.
Everyone in the room was laughing at Marcus trying to open the jar of biscuits. He made us laugh a few times. He tried to get into the atms of tech and vet! Smart fellow. He also wanted to follow them around. He’s so sweet. His purrsonality is much like BJ.
I have tried some unusual foods but dog biscuits? A bit dry I would imagine. Good for the teeth? Lol:biggrin::cringe:
The limb truck had a chipper in tow! Arrrgh! They left deep ruts all the way down the ditches on both sides too. I guess now I know who crushed the culverts? There are no limbs on lines down the ditch! I have no idea why the drive there. They also took the chain off my drive, broke the reflectors and turned around in my yard. I would not have minded that if they had just asked since the highway is usually busy. I did mind the blocking of the drive. Maybe their chipper broke but they could have moved the limbs. They also could have informed me. My door isn’t that far away! Lol When I called customer service I got a lady in Chicago! Hmmm. I was lucky to finally get a human! I will not give up though.
A cat tent? How cute! I think these kitties would want to sit on top of it though.
I love the starfish story too! Good one to have here. :heartshape:

Whenallhellbreakslose Whenallhellbreakslose Out of the mouths of babes is often the truth. Children that are pure of Heart see! Indeed, it does make a difference. I think so many adults forget to stop and make the effort. Their own lives are the priority instead of our world being priority. We can do both! We should remember that without a good world, we have no good life. That makes places like TCS so important. It teaches and reminds people. It provides support to those feeling exhausted or frustrated so they don’t give up. We a need a break sometimes, we all need support. The thing is, never give up. Never. Just keep trying to the best of our abilities.
Thanks for the link! That was hilarious! Thank you to CatladyJan CatladyJan too for posting that video to makes us all laugh! It worked!
