Can you guys help me determine what breed(s) my cat most resembles?

I just got my first kitten a couple months ago (so I'm also looking for any pointers you guys have). The home I got him out of was not so great, so they didn't have any information on him other than one said he may be a siamese mix. I will try to describe his personality: he is very energetic and playful (maybe this is true for all kittens), he is extremely motivated by food, he sleeps surprisingly little, and he drinks a ton of water. But I don't think he likes water, I tried to give him a bath once and he wasn't having it. He is pretty intelligent, he has already learned to come on command and to sit. If there is any other info I can provide, please let me know. Also, I'm located in Los Angeles, CA, USA in case that is useful for his breed.

Any insight you guys might be able to offer is much appreciated, as well as any tips on raising a cat. Also, I forgot to mention, he is not very affectionate at all. He only wants to curl up with me at night when I'm reading, he crawls in my bed and spends the night with me. Other than that, maybe once in a while he crawls in my lap while I study, but other than that almost no affection. So I'd love a little insight on that as well! Whenever I reach for him to pet him, he lets me pet him twice and then nips softly at me.

Thanks for the help!

Hi! Sorry no one with more expertise has responded to you yet. Your kitten is absolutely adorable!! What is his name? He is definitely a tabby (note the 'M" marking on his forehead), but the coloring/pattern of his is stunning! I guess I would call him a domestic short haired black and white tabby - unless you have other pictures that show the black being more of a dark brown. I don't see Siamese, but then, I am pretty lousy at identifying nuances. So, until others come along with more educated information to give you, that is what I have - that and the TCS article for new cat owners (see link below).

He is little, so playing and having fun are more important to him that cuddling - that is until he gets tired and then cuddling becomes much more important. I'd say you have a very nicely well-rounded kitten!!

Like the vast minority of cats, he is a domestic - a cat of no breed.

Black tabby & white domestic shorthair.

He is a beauty😻
In terms of breed he looks like a dlh to me, which is no specific breed… domestic cats have many different heritages and can have many different looks. In terms of his color/ pattern he is a tabby bicolor which means he has the piebald gene, here are some articles on this. In terms of his affection etc, the more you cuddle and play with him the more affectionate he will be based of course on his baseline personality. Each cat shows affection differently. Some cats don't like to be pet a lot, Quinn is like that too, pets on his terms and it stuck as he reached adulthood.
Although his tail looks short hair, his body looks like a possible medium hair but time will tell.

With this M that visible, I dont think he is solid black with ghost stripes. I think he is brown tabby...
If so, it gives; brown tabby and white, in the harleqine pattern. (meaning there is much white; more than tuxedo but less than van pattern).

Re his hair lengh, we must wait a little more till he gets adult or winter season come.
He is prob shorthair with kitten fuzziness, but MAY show himself be a "medium hair", ie genetically a longhair.
And yes, domestic as all other said.

Thanks so much. Sorry I did not get back earlier. I did note that he was at least part tabby because of the 'M', and others have said "domestic shorthair" so sounds like you are right on point. His name is Hans. He's coming along great. I think having been a dog owner I wasn't expecting the type of play he has, which is much more aggressive. But now that I can see that he is not being mean, he is just trying to play, I have relaxed on him and he has gotten much closer to me in the last week.

Thanks very much, I read the articles and found your commenting illuminating. If I can summarize everyone's findings, it seems that my cat is a domestic bicolor tabby with masking and piebaldism. Regarding his hair length I am still not sure. From day one I have felt that he is not a short hair; the hair on his body is long. I would guess that he is a "medium" hair domestic (although someone pointed out that means he is genetically a longhair). However, his tail has short hair, and it's possible that his face and extremities do too. His body, though, has decently long, extremely soft, very fine hair.

Your cat named Quinn, is it a harlequin? Or is that just coincidence.

I agree he looks medium long hair even with the short tail hair, but time will tell, kittens appearance can change over time. Some long hair cats don’t get their full floof until they are older. He is a cutie😻 Quinn is a pure bred sealpoint siamese cat, see pic, I chose that name because it means wisdom among other things... he is a smarty and a bit of a character for sure 😹
