Camel crickets!! :eek3: I absolutely hate those things. Boone loves to grab them and carry them around. Then he will pick them up and shake them repeatedly. He won't kill them. He just wants to torment them. If Gracie tries to come over and look, he takes off with them. Luckily he has never brought them upstairs but I end up having to go downstairs and dispose of it (mortally wounded but still alive). Usually by then, it's also missing at least one of its back legs so it can't jump anymore.

Crickets are actually good luck. I love to hear them singing late at night around here! Sometimes one will find its way inside and I always try to be first to catch the cricket and walk it to freedom outside. I love them!

Crickets are one thing. Camel crickets are another. They are 10x larger than a regular cricket. They love to jump AT you instead of away from you. Two different species and two different personalities.

That's who we have around here -- camel crickets.
I have never heard them chirp before. My mom's basement used to be infested with them and never heard a peep out of them. I will be more than happy to ship any and all out to you for your enjoyment.

My Yammy is absolutely obsessed with cut-up deli chicken and has been for 5 years. He demands it at least 5 times a day, (small amounts) or basically any time the fridge is opened. If he doesn't ask for it, I know he is sick. I cut it up every three days and keep it in the fridge. he eats a chicken a week, 52 chickens a year!

I just looked it up and the California camel cricket is NOT what we have here on the East Coast. Top is yours. Bottom is ours.View attachment 396156View attachment 396157
We always called these "hoppies" and I can confirm, they are very much unlike crickets. I hate them; they give me the heebie jeebies. And I have a theory about why. Instinctively, I seem to hate insects that breed indoors (e.g., cockroaches) but not similar looking insects that only occasionally find their way inside but do not breed (e.g., beetles). With no evidence to claim this, I feel like many humans have an instinct of disgust for insects that can breed indoors and actually become a true pest. A quick Google search shows that regular crickets do not breed indoors but camel crickets do...

I got an easy one. My little Yammy has leukemia and is pretty spoiled, a few years ago we gave him some Walmart broiled chicken to get him to eat when he was sick, and he went nuts for it. He also eats regular canned food. Now, every single day without fail, he cries until he gets a little bit of it like ten times a day. I think it is more habit now, but we indulge him. He loves it and demands it so much we call him our 'chicken monster'. I cut it up and freeze it, he goes through a chicken a week, 52 chickens a year!
My EternityRIP, was like a wild animal when it came to chipped roast beef. I had to stop him or he would get sick

People food. Idk if its bc she was a stray for a while & thats all she could scavenge or what, but no matter what i'm eating, Honeybun has to come see and sniff and sneak a lick or a bite, and if its something she knows she likes like baked chicken or seafood, she will jump up, try to take it off my plate, ect. I eat in the living room a lot and when i set my plate down on the coffee table i have to watch it like a hawk bc she will straight up go start eating, or grab a piece and run. Shes obsessed with it but shes obsessed with food in general...

I assume it comes from being a stray & hungry all the time, so i always make sure she's well fed: she gets grain free wet food at 7 am and 7pm, and a scoop of crunchies in a bowl that she can snack on if she gets hungry, plus a few treats every day. Even with all that, she'll still try to steal my food! I guess she just likes people food.

She'd stop quickly if she was living here. There's never anything interesting on my plate.

So when we run out of cat food, we don't buy more until the day after. So when Milo is hungry we'll give him chicken breast from our grocery store, he loves it and it's the only other thing he'll eat!

The strap on my digital camera. Every time I try to take a picture he goes for it. Sometimes it results in a good shot, but usually it doesn't.

A while back I found an older broken camera I never threw out and stuck the strap onto a piece of string to make a toy. He would have none of it. He's only interested in the strap when it's attached to the camera.

Here's a new one - her little "Hot Cat" branded kicking stick. Sassy had seemed a bit depressed for a few days to the point where I was considering a call to the vet. Last night I noticed that she had assembled all of her toys in the middle of the living room, but was missing one - I found her kicking stick under the couch, slightly out of paw's reach, and retrieved it. She immediately began meowing excitedly and after an absolutely marathon kicking session fell asleep purring and snuggling it. This morning after breakfast she went right back over to it and fell asleep snuggling it again. Very adorable. "Oooh, my little stick, I missed you so much, I will never leave you again, purr purr purr"
