Hello!! I recently got my two cats spayed on the 12th, i wasn’t given a cone or anything for them and just have been keeping an eye on them to make sure they don’t lick it but one of my cats Kitty girl hides and i looked at her incision today and was concered and wanted to see if anyone thinks it’s an infection or maybe normal ? i’m sure she had chewed it a little it looks like i’m just worried. sorry she so jumpy and wouldn’t let me get a good pic.

It is blurry but it does look like the incision may be open a bit. If you could I would suggest sending a picture to your vet or bringing her in. Better to be safe than have it get infected.

My girl is jumpy as well, so I understand. I would say her incision looks a little irritated, but otherwise okay at the moment. I would watch it for infection and to make sure she doesn't open her stitches. If you're worried about her continuing to chew, I would ask the vet for a cone if you feel her wearing one for a bit would be best for the both of you. If you have a gauze pad and some rolled gauze, you could wrap her incision up as well. I would put a little antibiotic ointment on the pad to reduce the chance of it sticking if you do and to help with any infection that might be starting.

We covered and wrapped my girl after she was spayed because she decided to take her own stitches out thankfully she was healed enough at that point that she was okay.

Also talk to your vet about this or bring her in for a check just to be sure. My girl needed antibiotics as well due to her opening her incision.

Thanks you !! i’m going to take her today to the vet just to be sure, what antibiotic ointment did you use? I’m thinking wrapping her would help a lot.

it looks pretty good, really, just a little red. Coming apart a little bit often happens and they heal well. I use human antibiotic salve, like a triple antibiotic, or Neosporin, just make sure it doesn't have the pain killer added in, which is popular now and is toxic to cats. It's OK if they lick a little bit. it is also normal to feel a lump under the incision, it is from inside swelling.

Yep, nobody likes the cone of shame. At least it's a short one so she shouldn't have any issues with eating and drinking.

Hello guys!! i’m posting this in regard to a veterinary clinic. If you go to Animal Rascal Hospital/ Unit I would advise to steer clear. I recently got my two babies spayed on the 12th of August. They did not give me a cone or any antibiotics and when I asked they said they would be fine without it. This is my first time going to get my girls spayed so I didn’t even realize they probably needed a cone. Everything seemed to be fine when they got home, about a week later I noticed one of my babies had a little bit of infection so I took her to get checked and they gave me antibiotics and a cone. She’s doing well now, but about a week later after that I notice my other girl struggling to get onto the bed and into her litter box. I have a tall litter box because they like to throw litter everywhere lol. I didn’t think it was that big of a deal so I let her be. The next day I get home from work and my babies incision is leaking. It has now been 2 1/2 weeks since they’re spay and usually are supposed to be healed by then. her incision completely came open and was leaking very nasty thick puss. I took her to the emergency room and found out she had an abscess on the inside of her incision. I went to OSU urgent care vet in Dublin, they even said her incision was completely botched. I was told there are three layers when it comes to stiching and making sure everything is closed. When they looked in there to see how bad it was they realized that the surgeon who stitched up my baby did not stitch the top two layers of her skin properly and with no cone wearing or antibiotics caused an infection. Luckily it did not reach the abdominal lining where all of her organs are. After about 4 days going back and forth to the urgent care 1k in medical expenses and three days of bandages before they were able to close she got her stitches finally. There are other people who have had similar issues and experiences there and sadly had to put down their babies. So please, do not go to this vet I know it is cheap and convient since they are also mobile but not a vet that is quality. Please save yourself the stress and major expenses and pain of your babies by not going here !!
