I saw an interview with Senator Angus King today and he had a breakthrough infection. He believes the vaccinations may have saved his life. He felt bad for two or three days. He said it felt like the worst head cold he ever had x2. He self quarantined at home for 10 days, his wife left food at his door, knocked then ran. I doubt she actually ran but that was what he said.

One of my Facebook friends shared a gofundme awhile back for one of his friends, who was hospitalized. I learned that he has passed away. He was only 28. I can't say for sure if he was vaccinated but based on some of his own Facebook posts I'm going to guess that he was not.

Yeah, locally there was a 29-year-old man that died of it back in March. Which was before the vaccines were widely available so he definitely wasn't vaccinated. Nobody expects a strong and healthy young man to die of something like that but it's obviously not rare.

Well, I just got back from my sisters house. We had an outdoor birthday party for my soon to be 90 year old Grandmother.
It went really well, although I feel bad for my cousin, his wife and their 5 kids. Two of the kids were on a school bus that had a Covid case on it so they are staying in isolation and didn't attend. Obviously very responsible of them, but I still feel bad that they missed the probable last birthday party my Grandmother will have. We packed up a substantial to go box of left overs for them, and my Mom was going to bring them their food on the way back from bringing my Grandmother home.
And now?..... The wait is on that I didn't catch anything...we took precautions but we were about 35 people. And it's not just Covid, we're all fully or at least partially vaxxed, but with colds starting to make their rounds with things opening up...I hope my immune system isn't overwhelmed by all the new germs, lol! This was the first time since the pandemic that I've seen the majority of the people that attended (aunts, uncles, cousins). It's kinda weird and scary to be in a gathering and socializing with people not in my immediate "bubble"....

That is something that mental health professionals are cautioning about, many people have been isolated for a long time and it will be hard to get back out again. That has also been a big concern for kids because they aren't learning social skills. I know it will be hard for me because I am an introvert. I work from home exclusively, I used to do a half and half thing. The company closed the office in this area so I will continue to be exclusive remote work. I can go all week without leaving my apartment other then for a daily walk. I talk to people on the phone and have the internet meeting thing but I don't interact with anyone in person. I go for weeks at a time where my only outing is the weekend trip to the supermarket. I have always had to push myself to be out among people socially, I have done it because I know that it isn't mentally healthy to be isolated.

Ugh yes. My entire family has a cold/flu/some crud. My mom got tested for COVID and it was negative. . .maybe the rest of us should have been tested too, but honestly I couldn't work up the ambition to drive half an hour to a clinic while I was the sickest, and any test probably wouldn't be accurate now. Nobody was short of breath so it most likely isn't COVID. My brother was the sickest, according to him anyway, lol (could be "man flu"). And I realized I haven't had a cold/flu since April or May 2020, I think. Sure was nice when everyone was being more careful.
That has also been a big concern for kids because they aren't learning social skills.
My little nephew is almost 4 and is entirely feral. We took him to an outdoor kids' thing (too long ago to be the source of the current virus) and realized he has zero concept of standing in line/waiting his turn or socializing with other little kids :/. I hope that doesn't have any long-lasting ill effects.

The concern that many have is that there are crucial stages of development in kids. Kids brains are still developing the neural pathways. If this goes on much longer there will be kids that will have permanent issues because of this.

My nephew is 2 and I swear is feral as well. But he goes to daycare and has soccer practice that he attends, so he's around other kids a bit, I think that's just how he is

Ha, yeah, this one would be feral no matter what, too, simply because he's his parents' kid, lol. But he does need to get into sports/dance/martial arts, something that teaches him to cooperate and follow rules. My mom was hoping they'd sign him up for Head Start this year but they want to wait until next year (his birthday is in December so he won't be old enough for kindergarten).

If I were the parent of an 11 year old, I'm not sure if I would get this one once approved or wait a few months for the dose they give to 12-15. I wonder how many parents of kids in those in between ages will just go for it vs wait.

I have met two different sets of grandparents who have unvaccinated grandkids hospitalized with Covid. One man's 30+ grandson is a cop who did duty at a large music festival. The other, sadder case is an almost 16yo who does cheerleader, sports, is an honor student from an anti-vaxxer family; her parents & fraternal grandparents are unable to see her so her vaccinated maternal grandparents(quite elderly but completely vaccinated) were heading out on a 400miles (one-way) drive to be by her side. The sorrow & worry in those grandparents' eyes is stunning in a sad way; it reminds me that we have rights but also have responsibilities.

Yesterday, People in my building were really up in arms about getting the booster.
Since the building's administration had CVS has a in-hour program for the Pfizer Vaccines, they are expecting them to do the same----Immediately.

I got mine a few weeks ago, on my own, at CVS.

Sometimes, you just have to do things on your own and not wait for administration. The Building's director, told us that if we can get them on our own, to do so...and not wait.

From what I heard, they WILL be having a booster clinic in here. Not certain fi that will coincide with a flu clinic. I do not believe in taking 2 vaccinations at the same time.

This week, I will get the flu shot. I wanted to wait a few weeks in-between.

I decided to join the Senior Center, for the indoor bocce team. I think it is a good idea for me. This is the second year I was asked to play.... but now... not sure if I will keep it up... Everyone has to be masked, and provide proof of vaccination.
It was good thing I photographed my Vaccination Card. I will always have it on my phone!!

This was the first time I had to use it.

The senior center is hosting a Halloween Party. A 'friend' automatically signed me up for it...
No, not for me... I do not do Halloween, plus I am kind of fearful of the amount of people who will be there. It will be held in a large ballroom... nope.. I am telling her I will not attend, and I will take my name off the list, this week. No way....

Just being careful.

I've finally been able to coordinate my schedule to get my second vaccine. My husband and I are going today, the walk in only clinic opens at 11:00am. It's still not an ideal day/time for us to go...but it's the best I could do, we just want to get this over with. I may have to cancel going to a staff meeting tomorrow and even possibly call in sick to work on Monday if my symptoms are anything like (or worse I have heard) then the first time. I already talked to my boss and she is OK if I don't attend the staff meeting. She giggled when I told her and said..."Honestly, your the least of my concerns to attend...I'll be able to relay the info to you in like 15/20 minutes." It's nice when your boss recognizes that you don't need any hand holding, trusts and respects you.

I'm actually really nervous though...I've got little butterflies in my tummy. I HATE needles!
Wish me luck!:nervous:

It's been about an hour since my shot. My arm's already sore. :( And yes, I just got the ice pack, I'm moving/using it and have been drinking electrolyte beverages (since yesterday) to help with extra hydration...
Good news....I'm officially DONE with getting vaccines. I will not be getting a booster unless I'm forced to, although the talk about the boosters seems to be that they are only recommended for the elderly and immunocompromised...so I'm dodging that bullet!
We'll see what the next 24 hours brings.
