A friend of mine has one of those split level houses with 3 levels. The bottom has tile floors and the rest is wood. So she told me they worked on the stair skills early. They taught them how to go down safely because they just couldn’t realistically block everything off all the time. I would have been so nervous! Someone bought padding for my grandparents house because of all the little kids going up and down their split level too. 🤪
My sister has one too and she babysat all of her grandchildren when they were babies. As soon as they could crawl up she started teaching them how to turn around and crawl backwards down the stairs.

I've been working on turning around and going backwards off our bed, the couch, and the window seat ledge for now. She would still happily crawl right off so it's a process. I'm cool with stair practice while I'm supervising, but the gate it staying closed when I'm not!!!

Absolutely. You will probably use that gate for a couple years so she doesn’t go exploring on her own.

I still have baby gates up in my house. They are installed on hinges so taking them down will require some wall and chair rail repairs. They’ve come in handy when we have had little visitors. Or extra laundry to air dry! 🤪 I still have a gate around our wood stove too because of the time DS split his head open on the pad. (Thankfully not the stove itself.)

I split my head open on the bricks around our fireplace when I was little. I wanted to sit on my mom's lap so I stepped on the metal wood holder in socks and slipped. Fell back and hit my head. I didn't realize I had split my head open until my mom panicked. She grabbed a washcloth to put on my head and it was soon soaked with blood. Several stitches later and I was good to go.

We've had such a hot and humid summer that some of my plants got burned in spite of me watering them regularly. But my positive is this one still looks great. 🌺 View attachment 395172
Beautiful! New Guinea Impatients and Begonias! I used to plant them every year.. always a different color scheme, each year.

Beautiful warm Sunday and for once in a long while nothing to do so I put on my worst pair of jeans, a raggedy TShirt and elbow length rubber gloves, turned on some music in the garage and started stripping the 100 plus year old dresser that I bought a year ago. I love bringing a beautiful piece of furniture back to life and stripping furniture sends me to a happy place. Good thing because this one is a big challenge. Some goofy former owners coated the solid mahogany with some kind of orange polyurethane glaze that is so difficult to remove. Almost done with that though and moving on to taking off the remaining old varnish and stain which goes pretty fast. After that a few coats of poly and it’s done.
