Cat constipated from Tiki Cat?

Hi everyone!
Recently my cat had surgery to get a tumor removed (very expensive for a college student). After her surgery she was doing pretty good and had a set date to remove her staples, before her appointment I looked into more wet food options for her because I mainly fed her Hills Science Diet, so I started feeding her some Tiki Cat (which she loved), so after her vet visit on the 11th she came back home and I went to work. I came back to poop on the floor, she never does that so I was a bit concerned but didn’t worry about it too much. Since the 11th she has not pooped, at all. She eats normally and drinks normally, she has a vet appointment tomorrow and I’m scared it’s going to be expensive yet again. Is there any reports of Tiki Cat causing this?

If she’s showing interest in food, acting normally, and not straining on the litterbox, I wouldn’t think constipation, personally. Has she had reduced intake of food since her surgery? That could be part of the cause. Anaesthesia and surgical procedures will also, occasionally, delay poops for a while.

are you sure she’s not been soiling somewhere inappropriately since that first time?

After she got her staples removed she did hide (which she also doesn't do, she is always by me) her surgery was on August 31st and she was eating and drinking the same despite being on meds. She is confined to my room so I would know if she was was going somewhere else.

Hi! If you don't find poop elsewhere, try some drops of olive oil in her food - that should help move things along. Or, you could also try 1/8 tsp of Miralax, mixed with a little bit of water and then added to her food. But, given the number of days that have gone by, you might want to let the vet know what's going on just to see what they say. They might tell you similar to what I am suggesting, or they may say to bring her in due to the amount of time that has transpired.

Thank you for Replying!
I just got back from the vet, they looked at her and said they don't think she’s constipated at least not in her lower colon, they said it’s a possibility for her upper colon but said since she still has an appetite and is not throwing up it most likely isn’t constipation. They gave me a lactulose solution for her to give her three times a day.

Oh, btw - I know of no data that says Tiki Cat is likely to cause constipation and many people give it to their cats without incident (me included, but mostly the pates). HOWEVER, that is not to say that it doesn't cause constipation in your cat. If there are other foods she has eaten with no issues, the first thing you might do is compare ingredients and see what the differences are. That may or may not reveal anything, but it is a place to start.

I'm glad to hear the vet was helpful and you may have a solution (sorry) to the problem.

What FeebysOwner FeebysOwner writes about Tiki and checking ingredients is great advice. If constipation does continue to be a problem, two ingredients that you might look for -- ingredients that help -- are pumpkin and egg yolk. We put small amounts of both into our cats' homemade food because one cat has a tendency to get constipated. Tiki makes pouch foods that have pumpkin but our cats hate them! They love Weruva's shredded chicken with pumpkin, though.

Good luck, I hope your cat feels better soon!

FWIW, Tiki AD has a chicken and quail egg soup that tends to be super popular with cats :)

That's right, I forgot about the food with quail egg! That one was never a favorite with our cats (and they recently decided they don't like Tiki now 🤷‍♀️) but it does have that half an egg.
