I have a busy day coming; so I'm trying to get a little jump on it!

Do you remember the first time you got a ticket?

My first and only ticket was in college and it was a parking ticket for being "too far forward" in the spot I'd parallel parked in. It still makes me mad because the ground was covered in falling leaves and a cop watched me struggle to park there in the first place! He could have gotten out and helped! I was meeting my Art History class at a museum for a tour and downtown parking stressed me out enough because the museum didn't have much parking at all. Of course I don't KNOW that was the cop that watched me finally jump out and sprint for a building out of sight. :rolleyes2: But still! I was parked basically across a small park from the courthouse. So there were likely an abundance of police in the area anyway! :rolleyes2: I was so mad my mother actually went and paid it for me. I think it was $15. :rolleyes2:

I was working at a downtown theatre where we couldn't get in before the last show was over. Got a parking ticket in the middle of the night for parking in front of the theatre, even though it wasn't operating. Don't remember the amount for sure.

My one and only ticket (so far fingers 🤞) was for speeding. It was my mum's birthday and my mind was elsewhere when I drove into a 30mph zone from a 40mph and didn't slow down. Cant remember how much I was fined, about £70 I think and 3 points on my licence..serves me right.

I'm not sure which was the first, but both of these caused me some surprise and never to be forgotten. I got them soon after arriving in Germany almost 50 years ago. They each cost me 5 DM which is laughable but I still found them unnecessary and very annoying.

Both were at lunchtime when the small town was empty as most shops used to close for lunch. On the one occasion, I parked at the side of the road, legally (or so I thought) but got a ticket because my car was facing in the wrong direction!! Never done that again,

The other time was a Monday lunchtime, I parked on waste land, where parking was allowed. The area was almost empty of cars - there were so many opportunities for people to park, but I got a ticket! :angryfire: It took a long time for me to find out why, The rules for parking on the site had changed starting on that Monday and I was expected to put a parking disc in my windscreen showing the time I'd arrived!
I think I am now a bit more careful to watch out for rules being changed overnight but I usually have other things on my mind! :)

I was thirty when I got my first ticket. It was speeding and he also tacked on not wearing a seat belt. The fine for speeding wasn't too bad, don't remember how much but it wasn't too bad. For the seat belt I had to go to the community college and watch one of those films that they showed in high school for drunk driving with the injured people from accidents.

I usually get a speeding ticket about once every 5 years or so. I've a lead foot and I never drive the speed limit. I pay the fines and go about my merry way.

My first warning was one afternoon I was going home from my parents' house. I had the Meathead (my Alaskan malamute) with me. He was right next to me in the front seat. The cop pulled me off and asked me for my license, etc. And the whole time the dog was growling at the cop. The cop said, "Don't put your window down, just a couple of inches! Show me your license and registration!" And he's growling and carrying on. I kept telling him to knock it off, but he was always extremely protective of me. Finally, the cop said, "You know what? Forget it! Just slow the h@ll down!" And he stomped off.

My first actual ticket? I don't remember. There have been a few.

I got my first ticket in 2005. In NY, unless otherwise posted, it is legal to make a right turn at a red light if there is no traffic. A new 'no turn on red' sign was put up at an intersection, but was put behind 2 other signs and 2 trees in such a way that unless you were driving an 18 wheeler, you would never see it. A lot of people, me included, got nailed there, but the judge threw most of them out for the poor placement of the sign. They later lowered it to make it more visible, but unless you're looking for it, it is still easy to miss.

I think my first ticket was the day that I met some guy at the Fish Market in Old Town Alexandria for a blind date. I met him through the newspaper personals. I told him to meet me outside because I could sit across the street and check him out before going to meet him. I should have run when I had the chance. He was weird and creepy and I couldn't end the date fast enough. I walked back to my car and saw I got a parking ticket for going over the 2 hour limit.

I tend to drive over the speed limit too although I'm more aware of it as I get older. The first ticket I can recall was when I was 8 1/2 months pregnant. I was rushing to pick up my mom for a doctor's appointment and, yes, I was speeding in a residential area. The policeman pulled me over and I thought if I got out of the car so he could see how pregnant I was he would cut me some slack - Wrong, Busted! :eek2:

Carry a water bottle and dump some of it on yourself. When the cop comes up to your window, tell him your water broke and you need to get to the hospital.

Yes, my one and ONLY ticket in 50 some years of driving. This was about 40 years ago and I was on my way to my grandmothers. I went to take my normal turn onto the road about a block from her house and it had been changed from a wide open street to a narrow alley type opening. I didn’t notice the “Emergency Vehicles Only” sign or the parked police car either until I drove through. I was of course immediately waved over and received a ticket for “Disregarding a traffic control device”. Don’t recall the fine but paying anything at that time was a real hardship.

We live on a country road but the nearest town changed the speed limit signs and placements when everything was in lockdown last year. It was months before I went that direction and I couldn’t help but wonder how many people didn’t notice till they were speeding through!

DH got a ticket leaving that town Friday evening; so he inspired the question today. :lol2: It is one of those situations where you’re leaving a small town and there’s almost nothing there; but the speed hasn’t increased yet.:rolleyes2:

My first (of two) was in the early ‘80s. I was a 7th grade teacher and had morning hall duty (“Stop running!” “Take your hat off!” “Quit hitting him!” “The bell has rung; you should be in home room!”). I was late that morning and was speeding. I ended up with a ticket and a couple of points on my license, but the worst thing was that several other teachers passed me while I was pulled over. It was all over school before I even arrived!

So I'm not the only one! I've been driving for 46 years now and never got a ticket, :yess: except for a parking ticket once--I was with the grandkids eating onion rings and ice cream  at some tourist spot on Cannery Row and didn't get back to feed the meter in time.

yep it was a littering ticket apparently the cops had been watching and planning to bust me for certain illegal activities i was involved with on the streets luck and good timing was on my side that day since all they could get me for was tossing a cig out the window(also the excuse to pull me over)

I've gotten many tickets. I can't remember when my first one was, but it might have been in 2008. I got another ticket the next year when I totaled my car during a blizzard and they claimed I was "driving too fast for the conditions" even though I wasn't, I just hit an ice patch on a curve and went over the median. I got 3 more speeding tickets and then one parking ticket for not being close enough to the curb despite there being a huge amount of snow preventing me from getting closer to the curb. Anyway. For awhile there, my insurance was over $700 for 6 months and on a car from 1999. Now my insurance is less than $300 for 6 months and my car is 12 years newer.

I think it was when I was in an accident. I don't remember what the actual cause was for the ticket, but I'd hit the breaks a bit at a green light because I was confused if I needed to turn, and someone was trying to merge into my lane and rear ended me. I hadn't been driving super lomg. I was maybe in college. I've gotten several since then.
