So I got the results in today, his PH levels are a bit off and he has some protein in his urine, but (from this sample) they couldn't find any crytals. I'll have to give him a supplement to make his urine more sour. Maybe his behaviour will get better after all that

That doesn't sound too bad. Makes sense that it does not happen that often. So it might bounce around between issue and no issue. Great that there are no crystals.

Let's see if it helps. Maybe that is "all" it is. Fingers crossed.

Thank you for the update. Great to know it might be easier than I may have thought.

Have a great weekend!!

So, I feel like I'm slowly going insane. There was no peeing since my last post, until two days ago. Tuesday night, he peed inside the bathtub again, I wasn't home much that day so I couldn't tell if something happend.
But last night, boy oh boy.
He was behaving normal all day, was a good little kitty, nothing odd about him. I played with both of them before feeding them, before going to bed at like 11 - 12.
After eating he was moving around the hallway meowing again, nothing suspicous about that, because he does that everyday.
But at like 4 in the morning he was going insane, he was meowing very loud, trying to get under our kitchen, but we fixed the panels month ago so he can't move them. He was trying really hard last night. Then went around again screaming and I already knew he was gonna pee in the bathtub. And he did. I don't know how long he did all of that.
At like 6:30 Monty started chasing Cosmo again, guess he didn't have a good night sleep either.

I'm really tired and so sad that this is happening again, since we are still treating him for his PH levels and it was fine for a while.
I'm also hesitant to take Cosmo to the vet I work at, because she's just not that professional and has not the most knowledge about cats. (She still firmly believes that cats are solitary animals.)
When all goes as planned I'm starting work at another vet at the end of next month, after I finished my apprenticeship.
Maybe he'll know better.

wow this thread has grown since I last checked in ... I think you are a very concerned cat mom - keep in mind that cats will pick up on your anxieties and stress levels as well :-) . I learned that with my cats - changing litter boxes .. or moving them is a big no ... if you can ... consider a small litterbox in the bathtub ... my cats LOVE the bathroom - maybe because to their sensitive noses ...it does smell like the right spot to go? It is a quiet and secluded place and a bathtub might feel very safe? Chasing is totally a cat game ... I have 5 cats and in the morning and evening there will be raucous games of chase and wrestle going on and all 5 are the best friends and sleep, eat and groom each other. My cats are young and they gallop around, stalk each other and I consider this their daily exercise. I feed my cats at night - which seems to be when mine are hungry - and my cats sleep in a catio ( as 5 party cats night is more than I can handle ) - which gives them the routine of being a bit limited at night ( but with food and litterbox and a cat tree available) and getting the wiggles out early in the morning when I let them out ... I think your cats are doing great- they are being cats with all the little strange behavior quirks we all learn to love - they'll continue to train you and make you the best cat person they could ever ask for ... I stopped questioning behavior a while ago ... cats are cats ... there is no rhyme or reason many times

"So, I feel like I'm slowly going insane." - :( Ok, we will help.

"There was no peeing since my last post, until two days ago. Tuesday night, he peed inside the bathtub again, I wasn't home much that day so I couldn't tell if something happend." - Ok, not being around might have caused him some anxiety.

"But last night, boy oh boy." - So this happened Wednesday night?

"He was behaving normal all day, was a good little kitty, nothing odd about him. I played with both of them before feeding them, before going to bed at like 11 - 12." - Ok, so far so good.

"After eating he was moving around the hallway meowing again, nothing suspicous about that, because he does that everyday." - Yes. It is usual for him.

"But at like 4 in the morning he was going insane, he was meowing very loud, trying to get under our kitchen, but we fixed the panels month ago so he can't move them. He was trying really hard last night. Then went around again screaming and I already knew he was gonna pee in the bathtub. And he did. I don't know how long he did all of that." - Ok, this actually makes sense. Did he go under the kitchen fairly often before you closed it up? I am guessing yes. Anytime a cat "loses" territory (like under kitchen cabinets, etc) it can cause stress. So last night he wanted to go under there, it was blocked off and stress and therefore a pee incident. So I can understand why that incident happened. We don't want it to happen but I understand why it happened. BUT under the kitchen has to be closed off so he has to learn to accept it. It just happened last night he wanted to go under there. :(

"At like 6:30 Monty started chasing Cosmo again, guess he didn't have a good night sleep either." - Yes, stress was high so it makes sense.

"I'm really tired and so sad that this is happening again" - I know. But I do think we know why that happened. So it isn't as confounding as other incidents.

"since we are still treating him for his PH levels and it was fine for a while." - Yes, which is good. I think it was all about his "fun territory" being inaccessible.

"I'm also hesitant to take Cosmo to the vet I work at, because she's just not that professional and has not the most knowledge about cats. (She still firmly believes that cats are solitary animals.)" - I think this is isolated and not much any vet could really do. I think it is all about territory.

"When all goes as planned I'm starting work at another vet at the end of next month, after I finished my apprenticeship." - That is great.

"Maybe he'll know better." - Yes.

I think Cosmo just has some "issues" that he battles. Some insecurities. I think a lot has to do with territory (under the kitchen, unable to access the other room at times, etc). Some has to do with separation from you possibly. Those cause stress and when cats are stressed they tend to pee inappropriately. It sounds like the pH level issue is being resolved which is great. I get a sense that this recent issue was not health but stress I think because he missed you the one time (any change can cause it like different hours, etc) and the most recent was due to him not being able to get under the kitchen which he wanted. So I think I understand the cause this time.

I know it is frustrating but I think you are doing great for him. PLEASE do not be too hard on yourself. Perfection and cats do not really coexist (perfection in anything is really impossible). Cosmo and Monty are happy, loved cats with great lives and a great family. Cosmo is more sensitive but that is common among cats. We will continue to improve it. I just honestly think this was a temporary blip.

Hang in there, you really are doing great with them.

I am excited your apprenticeship is almost over, exciting!!! :)

After his peeing 3 day in the row (27.04, 28.04, 29.04) he did not pee again. He also doesn't seem to have an issue with the underside of the kitchen being closed anymore.
I try to make time for a 1 on 1 cuddle session every morning and I think he really likes that. I also started a little clicker training after month of not doing anything and it felt like I left of yesterday. He's really great with it, he can stand up on his backlegs on command now!
I'm glad that it seems to be better now, I really hope it stays this way.

"After his peeing 3 day in the row (27.04, 28.04, 29.04) he did not pee again." - :yess: :hyper: :clap2: FANTASTIC!!

" He also doesn't seem to have an issue with the underside of the kitchen being closed anymore." - Great. That might be the reason or part of the reason for his better behavior.

"I try to make time for a 1 on 1 cuddle session every morning and I think he really likes that." - Awwwwww, love does go a long way. Another good reason for the improvement I think.

"I also started a little clicker training after month of not doing anything and it felt like I left of yesterday. He's really great with it, he can stand up on his backlegs on command now!" - Awwwwwwww, that is great. And it builds confidence.

"I'm glad that it seems to be better now, I really hope it stays this way." - Great work!!! I hope it stays this way as well. You are doing all the right things and they seem to be working. Let's keep monitoring. But keep up the great work!!! This is fantastic!!! GREAT job!!

So we had a few peeing incidents, but mostly stuff where he was upset. One time the litterboxes weren't clean enough (Fair enough I guess) and one time after they must have had a actual fight. We weren't home most of the day, but when we came home there were a bunch of fur clumps laying around in the kitchen and Cosmo had a small wound on his ear, I also found a little scab on Monty's neck. That night he peed in the bathtub. I don't know why they fought, I guess Monty wanted to play and Cosmo wasn't having it. Since Monty doesn't recognise Cosmo hissing at him as a warning I can see where it could have gone down hill.
But they are fine now, no one behaves any different.
Cosmo is still loud in the evening, which makes me paranoid that he'll pee in the bathtub, especially if he goes in the bathroom while meowing loudly, but it's managable for the most part!

On top of that: I finally finished my apprenticeship! I'm waiting for a recall this week to go and sign my new contract!

Hope you all are doing fine aswell!

"So we had a few peeing incidents, but mostly stuff where he was upset." - :/

" One time the litterboxes weren't clean enough (Fair enough I guess)" - Yes, they will do that so that is understandable.

"and one time after they must have had a actual fight. We weren't home most of the day, but when we came home there were a bunch of fur clumps laying around in the kitchen and Cosmo had a small wound on his ear, I also found a little scab on Monty's neck." - Hmmmm, THAT would be surprising. They do play rough so could it have bene that? And sometimes they get rough and it escalates a bit as well as one gets more annoyed. When you got home were they acting differently? Usually a real fight there will be a noticeable change in behavior - avoiding, hiding, caution, not eating, walking lower, etc. Cats can get into a brief "dust-up" and some wounds can happen. The behavior after is really the key to tell us the severity.

"That night he peed in the bathtub." - Ok, any other changes in behavior?

" I don't know why they fought" - Always hard to know.

"I guess Monty wanted to play and Cosmo wasn't having it. Since Monty doesn't recognise Cosmo hissing at him as a warning I can see where it could have gone down hill." - It can absolutely be that. It could be a change in routine, a person not there, general stress, animals around, people in another apartment, etc. So many things.

"But they are fine now, no one behaves any different." - Ok, THAT is what is important. Where they a little "different" that day or the next day or two?

They good news about them is they truly love each other. They are boys so they are rough but the love is there. I have two boys in my colony that remind me so much of Monty and Cosmo. They are rough, play rough, they can get mad at each other (not that Cosmo and Monty do that) BUT they love each other. They get over anything. They are boys. :/

"Cosmo is still loud in the evening, which makes me paranoid that he'll pee in the bathtub," - Yes. And feeling that can escalate him as cats really sense and take on our emotions.

":especially if he goes in the bathroom while meowing loudly," - Absolutely.

" but it's managable for the most part!" - That is good but we would like to stop him. How often does he go and is it always in the bathtub?

"On top of that: I finally finished my apprenticeship!" - CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! :clap2: That is FANTASTIC!!! A lot of work but so well worth it!!

" I'm waiting for a recall this week to go and sign my new contract!" - Great. Good luck!!! I hope you get it and love it!!!

"Hope you all are doing fine aswell!" - Thank you. I love hearing people realize their dreams so your great news makes my day!! :)

Keep us up on Cosmo. Thank you for the update!!!

Life was kinda hectic. I didn't realise that I haven't posted here since June.
Cosmo is still the same. Sometimes he pees in the bathtub, he's a bit more loud the past few weeks.
I thought about trying feliway to maybe calm him down?
Both are also due for their yearly exam and their vaccination, but I think I might have to push that back for a few weeks.
I just started working on my new job, unfortunately it's just partime for the first 3 month, then I'll get a full time job. And it's really quite busy, where I work so I can't just bring the cats.
But! In good news! We are very very close to buying a house! I'm very excited because we have so many plans to give Monty and Cosmo the best home ever! We are planning to make the balcony cat save so they can get fresh air, I think Cosmo would really love that.
We are also planning to build cat highways along the walls.
And the final and best thing planned would be the catio! It will most likely have to wait till next summer, but they will 100% get one!
And finally, when we are settled in into our new home I'm finally allowed to bring home another cat

So it's all a bit much at the moment and I really home Cosmo will be more happy in the new home

"Life was kinda hectic. I didn't realise that I haven't posted here since June." - Oh that is ok. I am just glad you are here now.

"Cosmo is still the same." - ok

" Sometimes he pees in the bathtub" - Pretty rarely? How high do you have the litter in the boxes? Is there any correlation between it being high and him going in the tub? Sometimes cats do not like too much litter. I still wonder if he (at times) has paw or leg issues that flare up.

"he's a bit more loud the past few weeks." - Hmmm, any ideas at to the cause? Different routine, etc?

"I thought about trying feliway to maybe calm him down?" - Doesn't hurt to try though I am not a big fan.

"Both are also due for their yearly exam and their vaccination, but I think I might have to push that back for a few weeks." - Ok

"I just started working on my new job, unfortunately it's just partime for the first 3 month, then I'll get a full time job." - Great, at the same place or a different place (full time)? Exciting!!! All the hard work is paying off!!

" And it's really quite busy, where I work so I can't just bring the cats." - Yes, that happens.

"But! In good news! We are very very close to buying a house!" - Awesome!! Congratulations!!! Exciting.

" I'm very excited because we have so many plans to give Monty and Cosmo the best home ever! " - Awwwwwwwww, terrific. Though I will say with all the love you give them they have a wonderful home already!! But I know what you mean.

"We are planning to make the balcony cat save so they can get fresh air, I think Cosmo would really love that." - Perfect

"We are also planning to build cat highways along the walls." - Great. Cat shelving can look really nice and stylish. Add in the cats tend to love it and it is fantastic.

"And the final and best thing planned would be the catio! It will most likely have to wait till next summer, but they will 100% get one!" - Perfect!!

"And finally, when we are settled in into our new home I'm finally allowed to bring home another cat  " - Wow. Are you sure you want to add another cat? From 2 to 3 is exponentially more challenging.

"So it's all a bit much at the moment and" - It sounds like it but great "bit much" stuff. :) Exciting!!!

" I really home Cosmo will be more happy in the new home " - I am sure he will be. So exciting!!!

Congratulations on everything!!!! :)

It's really difficult to determine what triggers him to do it. He peed one time in May, June was completely fine, in July he peed twice in one week and one time the week after that, he peed yesterday.
The litter is not that high that their paws sink in he usually goes in, pees in the corner and leaves the box without burying it. We never changed the litter brand it was always the wood litter from cats best.
He's fine with it 90% of the time, just sometimes in the evening or night he gets triggered to pee in the bathtub.
I don't know if he has issues with his legs. He is very very active and runs around like crazy and loves to play all day, no sign that he's hurting. He also jumps like a champ.

The kids from downstairs are home for summer break, maybe because they're loud?

Wow. Are you sure you want to add another cat? From 2 to 3 is exponentially more challenging
Oh definitely! I just love cats so much! But this time we will take our time with the introduction! We would love to adopt a young cat from a shelter, so it would be easier for the newcomer to adapt to the new home. Since Cosmo is such a friendly cat I think he would benefit from a new small friend!

Maybe the new house will just be a new start for all of us. We'll at least no longer have very annoying neighbours!

"It's really difficult to determine what triggers him to do it." - Yes, it is difficult in the best of times but when it is this sporadic, random it makes it extremely hard. :/

" He peed one time in May, June was completely fine," - Ok

"in July he peed twice in one week and one time the week after that, he peed yesterday." - Seems a bit more recent. :/

"The litter is not that high that their paws sink in he usually goes in, pees in the corner and " - Ok

"leaves the box without burying it." - This tells me he may not like the feel on his paws OR that he is letting everyone know "this is my territory!!!". Not sure he feels territorially insecure. :/

" We never changed the litter brand it was always the wood litter from cats best." - Hmmmmmm, I wonder if he doesn't like the feel.

"He's fine with it 90% of the time, just sometimes in the evening or night he gets triggered to pee in the bathtub." - Always in the evening or night? Hmmmmm, maybe something there.

"I don't know if he has issues with his legs. He is very very active and runs around like crazy and loves to play all day, no sign that he's hurting. He also jumps like a champ." Doesn't sound like that. Unless he gets too wild and something happens. Just keep an eye out for any change but I don't think that is it.

"The kids from downstairs are home for summer break, maybe because they're loud?" - Ahhhhhhhh, that can definitely be a cause.

"Oh definitely! I just love cats so much! " - :) I knew I would get that response. ;)

"But this time we will take our time with the introduction! " - :) You are an expert now. And we are always here if you need anything. :)

"We would love to adopt a young cat from a shelter," - Awwwwwwwwwwww

" so it would be easier for the newcomer to adapt to the new home." - Yes

" Since Cosmo is such a friendly cat I think he would benefit from a new small friend!" - :)

"Maybe the new house will just be a new start for all of us." - It will be wonderful. When you do move make sure you keep all the things they have their scent on to ease the transition. So cat bedding, trees, scratching posts, litters. Then as they settle you can change them out one at a time slowly. Since cats are territorial helping them immediately "own" things in the new house is helpful typically.

"We'll at least no longer have very annoying neighbours! " - YES!!!!! :)

So exciting!!! :)

So, we have the confirmation to buy the house! We just have to wait till we can get the keys!

On another note, Cosmo has been a bit more difficult lately.
He started peeing in the bathtub every evening, which concerned me.
So I took him to my vet today, on my day off. She did an ultrasound and it confirms, he most likely has crystals. We still have to find out what kind, I think it might be struvit. Fingers crossed that he'll pee in the bathtub today, so I can collect it for further tests.
I kinda feel like I let him down and I could've done more for him. I just can't stand him going through that.
I just hope it's struvit and nothing else

"So, we have the confirmation to buy the house! We just have to wait till we can get the keys!" - CONGRATULATIONS!!!

"On another note, Cosmo has been a bit more difficult lately." - :( Poor Cosmo.

"He started peeing in the bathtub every evening, which concerned me." - :( Agreed.

"So I took him to my vet today, on my day off. She did an ultrasound and it confirms, he most likely has crystals. " - OK, that make sense. :( Poor guy.

"We still have to find out what kind, I think it might be struvit. Fingers crossed that he'll pee in the bathtub today, so I can collect it for further tests." - Ok, let us know. Hopefully he can get well soon.

"I kinda feel like I let him down and I could've done more for him. I just can't stand him going through that." - Oh no, PLEASE DO NOT feel like that!!! You have been amazing for him. And before he was doing it so rarely that it must not have been an issue really. Then when he started you took him in, found out and are now going to help him. I think you have done everything right. Now it makes more sense.

"I just hope it's struvit and nothing else " - Agreed. I would guess it is but we'll find out soon. Get well soon Cosmo!!! We LOVE you!!! 😍 :purr:

So do I! Sending healing vibes his way..... :vibes:
Thank you! I appreciate it!

We still have to find out what kind, I think it might be struvit.

Thanks, that makes me feel a bit better.

He peed in an empty litter box yesterday, so I was able to check the sample today. He has an perfect example of Struvit, my vet was fascinated how perfect they were
I'm really relieved that he doesn't have oxalate crystals!
We'll give him methio tabs for two weeks and treat him with antibiotics as well and then we'll check his urine again, but he'll most likely always have a problem with that.

"Thanks, that makes me feel a bit better." - You are welcome. I hope you realize it was very hard to think that was the case given the infrequency. And when it did become frequent you realized it was something and took him in, figured it out, and now are in the process of getting him well. Looking back is always easy but in realtime it is not that easy. :/

"He peed in an empty litter box yesterday, so I was able to check the sample today." - Great

" He has an perfect example of Struvit, my vet was fascinated how perfect they were  " - Wow.

"I'm really relieved that he doesn't have oxalate crystals!" - YES!!!

"We'll give him methio tabs for two weeks and treat him with antibiotics as well and then we'll check his urine again," - Great. Hopefully he will feel better soon.

" but he'll most likely always have a problem with that. " - Probably. :/ You might want to check around for other foods, etc. Some cats just respond differently to certain foods. I am sure there are some great people on here that could give ideas. Just make a new post in the other section and see if that might help as well for the future.

Get well soon Cosmo!!!

Oh, he's in a good mood. He's such a sweetheart. Even after his vet visit he was immediately cheerful and happy.
He absolutely hates car rides and would scream the whole way, but apparently he isn't resentful.

Yeah, I've read a bit already and I'm really not a fan of hills and Royal canin and all that stuff. He currently gets Feringa or Mjamjam which contain 70% meat and no garbage meat (I don't know what the correct term in English is haha) so I'm looking into supplementing him a paste to keep that in check.

BUT I'll definitely also make a post about it to get other people's experiences!
