Ohio had 2,732 new infections yesterday. We also had 16,838 people start the vaccine in the same period.

I had my second shot in late March so I am very close to the 5 month mark which is where antibodies begin to go down. I think in time they will be doing boosters for everyone probably in the same order that people were vaccinated. I think they are holding back because so many people globally have not been vaccinated, WHO asked countries that have access to plenty of vaccine to hold back until more people in the developing countries have been vaccinated.

Cases in Oregon are skyrocketing, and my county is leading the pack. Not a race we want to win. Hospitals are getting desperately close to full capacity. The governor instituted a mandatory masks for all indoor spaces beginning today. I had to go to the store this afternoon and several people hadn’t gotten the message.

We had just over 20,000 cases in total in the entire city here in London, which is good compared to where we were a few months ago.

Ohio hasn't got really bad like some states and there is a definite rise in number of people who are getting vaccinated. The last I heard was a little over 1,000 hospitalized with COVID and that was on Aug 9. The average age was 66, we haven't seen the big rise in pediatric cases like they have seen in some states, that could change when kids go back to school. At no point yet has hospital capacity become an issue. There was a point when most hospitals stopped doing elective procedures but I think that was more about exposure risk. Of course there was the PPE issue at the beginning. Many hospitals were using ultraviolet light to disinfect and reuse PPE that is not intended for reuse but sometimes it is a matter of doing what has to be done.

YIKES!!
We were offered a Covid Test yesterday... a rapid test. They are offering them every 2 weeks.
Unfortunately, this week resulted in 3 new cases! Two are a couple, and another single individual.

All of these cases were Vaccinated with Pfizer.
We got the shots the end of January and the beginning of February.. so the effective is beginning to wear off..

These people are all confined to their apartments.. This is getting scary...

The prior effected Covid person, my neighbor, is still confined... this is over 3 weeks now...perhaps a month!
Frightening....

Masking up....

We were told: Although there has not been a particular mask mandate in the buildoinging, it is strongly suggested that we wear one at all times, in common areas.

What is frightening is that it only took 5 cases of Covid, for the Board of Health to officially Quarantine the building... I know this is the Delta variant, we have been vaccinated, so the effects should be less worrisome. I cannot help it but still be worried....

Re: the booster shot: No plans as of yet, but the Executive Director is confident that we will have a clinic in here, from CVS....
Cannot come soon enough, for me....

Went to Rite-Aid to pick up a script.... They are promoting Flu Shots! YIKES!!

I swear, it is one vaccination after another; But, we have to stay safe!

Mask up, everyone...

I have had four vaccinations this year, the two COVID shots, the first Shingles vaccine and the first Pneumonia shot. I have at least two more, the second Shingles and the flu shot. They are saying a booster after 8 months. I had my second shot the end of March so that would be the end of November. I think things go full circle. A lot of vaccination when we are little and again when we get older.

I’m vaccinated but was in a wedding last weekend so got tested yesterday as I’m feeling poorly (drainage, sore throat, just crummy). My test was negative so the doc said I probably picked something else up, though of course I will continue to fear I’ve got Covid.

I hate that it seems like so many people are just doing whatever they want and are fine, but I go to one event, vaccinated, and I feel like it’s the end of the world. I guess that’s anxiety for me.

I saw a doctor on MSNBC this morning and he was saying that we need to change our perspective on this. For most people who aren't immunocompromised and are vaccinated the metric that we should be tracking is severe illness and hospitalizations. He said that if we continue to track just positive test results that we will be in this endless loop of anxiety and booster shots. Of course if the vaccinated can be infected then they can transmit the virus including to people aren't vaccinated whether it is because they are stubborn or they have valid reasons to not be vaccinated.

Yeah it sounds like they're going to recommend boosters at 8 months for everybody. That would be the end of December for me. I'll probably get my flu shot in September so that's enough time in between that I feel comfortable with it.

I wonder if there's any value in switching it up and getting Moderna this time around?

I don't know how I feel about getting a 3rd shot when most people in the world can't even get one but if I refuse it won't help them get one so I guess I might as well :/.

I think more than cases have been looked at from the beginning.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott tests positive for COVID-19 | The Texas Tribune

Texas today has 12,227 in hospitals. Roughly 3 times as many as when they removed their mask mandates. They were over running hospitals at about 13,000 in hospitals in Dec/Jan. See graph in article.

If you are vax’d, you can still catch it. Partying isn’t social distancing.

I know a lot of people are like "if you have to keep getting boosters, what's even the point?" and that makes me remember an article I read, I think it was about diabetes but may have been a different chronic illness. It was by a psychologist who studies this phenomenon. He says that people get overwhelmed when told they have to do something regularly because of a chronic illness.

He said that if he told people they had to spend 5 minutes twice a day managing their illness, buy inexpensive supplies on a regular basis, and go to the doctor twice a year and it would cost about $100 out-of-pocket each time, they would freak out. Yet, that's what most people do for their dentistry, which is largely cosmetic (yes, some health implications too, but most things we do are to keep 'em pearly white, straight, and smelling nice). So he's figured out a way of explaining things about managing chronic illness so that people don't feel as overwhelmed. I doubt I'd be able to find that article again but it would be especially interesting now, after we've been pandemic-ing this long.

University of Mississippi Medical Center is setting up their second field hospital in a garage. They had asked for a Hospital Ship but I don't think that is possible. We are entering the tropical storm, possible hurricanes, season.

In the past year I've had two rhogam shots, TDap, flu, MMR, and two Covid. Way more than usual!

The Pfizer vaccine has been granted full FDA approval. Hopefully that moves things along.
Well, hopefully those who have been holding out for that reason will now feel comfortable getting it. I have a feeling though that there are some that will just find another excuse to not get it.

Now don't get me wrong, I know a few people who have their own reasons to not get it and I respect their hesitation. If I were in their shoes I too would probably hold off.
A friend of mine almost died due to encephalitis, a direct reaction to another vaccine she got. I know these new vaccines (MRNA) aren't the same type as the one she got that almost killed her, but I can completely understand her fears. She is also not trying to convince any of her family or friends to not get it....it's just for herself.
Someone else I know has been actively trying to conceive. And although she knows the vaccine doesn't cause infertility, there have been several reports that it messes with the menstrual cycle in some women. She just doesn't want to mess with her chances of getting pregnant. She's not anti-vaxx, she's just a "not right now". I know even for myself, after my first shot, and I'm SUPER regular, I was almost a week early and it was much heavier in the first 2 days than usual....Could be a coincidence, but I do wonder.....I wouldn't mind if it sends me into early menopause...I would love to not have them anymore! LOL!

In my mind, I am thinking that Covid messes with the blood clotting factors in the body..
Perhaps the mRNA and J&J one, are kind of doing the same thing to women's menstrual cycles...
Just a thought...

Found out, through the grapevine, that another resident in my building has Covid.. Yup, Vaccinated when we all were. She works part-time in a garage, as secretary. They rent out U-Hauls, also. She could have come in contact with so many people.

It is not officially spoken up through the building, but she has been good enough to call all the people she may have been associated with for the past week.

I wish they would have a mask mandate in here. It is time...
