How's everyone else's plants? Anyone do pot upgrades recently or have interesting new growth or new babies appearing?
It's summertime, so my indoor plants get neglected, so that the outside ones can be tended to. I do try to keep them watered though. ;)

Received some of my plants today! A 9 variety of haworthia, including some I've really wanted that look see through. All new to me and different than the haworthia I already had. It was just under $30 for all of these. :cheerleader:

Waiting for my Ikea planters to come in to repot, which should be early next week.

Also got this 6 pack cactus and wasn't sure how many varieties because it depended on their current stock. Happy to get two of three kinds! I made a mixed planter and potted each type separately. All new varieties as well! The small pots are also new, just over a dollar a piece. The mixed container is from a bowl set I bought last year and finally getting around to drill holes and use.

Made my first mix planter!! Excited to watch it grow 🥰
Very nice! And because I'm a potter I'm really impressed with your planters too. Do you know who makes them or do you pick them up at craft fairs? They look hand made, rather than mass produced. I can see the one in the last pic you posted is a slip cast bowl with a commercial glaze, but the others look like they are thrown on a wheel. The glaze on your mixed planter is just yummy!

Thank you so much! Isn't that mixed planter one a beauty?? Not quite sure on that one as someone was giving it away for free last summer. Saw it posted on my towns facebook garage sale page, although the person lived a couple towns over and drove almost 30 minutes to pick it up. But it's worth it, imo! Very excited to be using it finally!

The small pots the cacti are in are from Amazon. They are on sale right now 40% off :cheerleader: Amazon.com: Succulent Pots 6 Pack - Mini Ceramic Pots 3.0 Inch, Small Flower, Planter, Bonsai, Cactus Pot with a Drainage Hole - Perfect Decoration Gift Idea: Kitchen & Dining

I wish I felt safe to go to second hand stores as that would be a great place to pick up cheap containers, esp. since I can drill my own holes. I have a bunch of items coming from Ikea, some kitchen wear to drill holes in and some sold as actual planters.

Where do you get your favorite planters from?

More repots! Some new, some cut from plants either to save or separate babies, and some just new pots

5 pack of cuttings, and received 2 extra plus a mini bonus rooted plant 🥰 These are the ones more likely to look like little trees as they grow.

The other cacti assortment, which has mostly different varieties. The lower one on the left is same as the one I currently have, I believe. Some even have blooms!! So hopefully exciting pictures to come off happy cacti blooming ☺

The dinosaur planters come from a little flower shop near where I catch my bus. If I get to the bus stop early I always have to go in and see what new stuff they have. Most of the others are ones I've made. I'll have to take some more pics soon.

I love that little cat planter! So sweet!

Yeah, pictures! Can't wait :cheerleader: I'd love to know which planters you made, too, if you don't mind pointing them out when posting your pics.

That's really nice you have a shop to get dino planters. I wish I had one to see them in person before buying. The ones on amazon can be pricy and it can be hard knowing how big the holes are for the plants.

Thank you! Both of the cat ones are from Amazon.

Lovely! Everything looks great!
Thank you! :heartshape:

The square planter on the left is a bought one, but the rest are all ones I made. The tiny little ones at the front were samples I made to try out new glazes on, but they're the perfect size for baby cacti

My latest little cacti arrangement. I made this bowl as a water bowl for the cats, but it got left out in the snow and cracked, so it's a planter now.

Double dipped glaze, celadon over a stoneware cream glaze. I love this cacti, got it from the 100 yen store!

You made those cat planters?? Love them so much! The other little ones look similar to the small ones I've bought with the fade. Have you ever thought to sell them before? I bet people would love them, esp. the cat ones! :)

Are the small cacti the babies you were waiting to get bigger to take off?? You have such interesting and unique variety of cactus. Thanks for sharing an update!

Kitties stayed pretty behaved while working on my plants. Sometimes I have to put Katrina inside because she is so curious and some of my plants are poisonous. Funnily, I got up to Grab something and turned around... and Katrina had turned her head and reached with her neck looking in the bin of plants next to her 🤣🤣🤣 it's like she knew I couldn't see her and went for it 🤣🤣🤣 when I called her out, she stopped and laid her head back down 😄😄😄🥰🥰🥰

The face pot is from a fancy online store and was a sibling holiday gift. I've always wanted a head planter and this one is so quirky!

I have sold a few things, but mainly larger flower vases and tea sets. It's hard to sell things in Japan because there are so many good potters and beautiful ceramics available here.

We, I left everything out on the deck to soak up the sun this morning and then my cacti got rained on! :bawling: It was only for about 20 minutes, but it was one of those sudden, heavy summer rainfalls. Do you think they will survive? The succulents are all looking delighted, but I'm worried about the cacti.

Gotcha, I didn't think of that. Thank you again for sharing your beautiful pots with me!

Good question. I've been leaving some of my succulents out to get rained on and just moved my cactus a couple days ago onto the stairs, too. It did rain the other day overnight... it looks fine so far?? But time will tell, I guess! You'll have to keep up updated on how yours does after the rain. Is there anything different about it that has brought this worry on?

I was just worried that it might have been too much water for cacti, but so far they all look OK. We've had a couple of days of sunshine, so they've dried out a bit. The succulents are all looking great, I think they loved the rain.

How often do you water your cacti?

Glad your cacti are looking good!

Normally, I look at my plants a couple times a week and determine if they are ready for water. My more succulent cactus is easy to read because it gets wrinkly when thirsty. My spiny cactus looks more ribbed and contracted in. I used to stick my thumbnail to see how much give the cacti flesh has. If my nail goes in easier, it is in more need of water. The spines are getting bigger and it is harder to get between them to give the cactus a jab, so I go by visual that the ribs are more noticeable. I know that didn't specifically answer your question, but make every couple of weeks or once a month or even longer, depending.

I do have a few more cacti now and it will be interesting to see how their watering needs are different. The really weird looking one that looks shriveled is called a Ming Thing. That will be the most interesting to learn because it is so unique from any of my others!

New haworthias are potted. Have another five to pot still. The pots are cups from Ikea that holes were drilled into.

I don't water at all in the summer. It's so humid here, I don't think they need it. They get watered in the spring and autumn whenever they start to look a bit dry.

Your plants all look so healthy!

Mine are living outside at the moment, soaking up the sun. They're all going through a bit of a growth spurt.

That is easy enough, not having to water! I just asked a succulent group, one that has similar climates to my area, if they leave their succulents out when it rains for those that leave them outside. My soil is well-draining, but we had rain scheduled for overnight and not all of my plants on the stairs had softer leaves indicating ready for water. But all commenters assured me it would be fine, esp. it it was hot during the day to dry out the substrate! So we'll see! I have some cacti out, too, so I'll have to give you an update on how they do. :)

Thanks!

Do you have any interesting growth with the growth spurts? Do you fertilize? Normally I fertilize when watering, but with leaving the larger plants out now to get rained on, I'm wondering how I should fertilize since the kind I have is supposed to be used when watering.
