wondering if i can find some easy recipes to use for losing weight ???
The Lose It! App has a lot of recipes. They have a blog and great suggestions. There’s a free version and also a premium. Weight watcher's also has some good recipes, not sure if you get free access.

Day three of Lola being left out to explore and she still hasn’t made it down the hallway. I have given her a couple hours previously and today I have nothing going on all morning so I will leave her door unlocked u til at least lunchtime.

This morning when I woke up she was as usual screaming for me at the gate while Willow sat just a couple of feet away totally ignoring her and looking quite relaxed. Lola has never had any reaction at all to Willow so I think long term they will be fine together.

I use the Mealime app for interesting healthy recipes. You can put in dietary restrictions, and also foods you don't like and the app will filter recipes that fit your criteria.

If you don't have a smartphone, you can still search recipes on their website and put in things like vegetarian or allergens, but idk if you can put in the foods you dislike. Maybe you can if you have an account. I use the app pretty much.

we got brown eggs this week same size/brand as the white ones we buy normally. but they crack differently and seem to have less yolk inside?
? I have never bought a whole carton of them. Occasionally one brown one in a carton but I never really noticed a difference. Not sure if they have to be a special kind of chicken to lay brown eggs?

We always buy cage free brown eggs. When we used to get them from a friend of my mothers there was definitely a difference. I thought her yolks were bigger but lately it seems like eggs are getting smaller in the stores.

Just had to google it. There are certain breeds of chickens that lay brown eggs. Don’t know whether yolk size varies by kind of chicken. And I also found this “One of the students who raised hens said that when the hens are younger, the eggs they lay have a smaller proportion of yolk to white”.

So maybe you got eggs that came from young chickens.

So most eggs from the store come from caged chickens, and I think Leghorns lay white eggs. If you get cage-free eggs that means that they have all certain access to the outdoors but they are still in some type of fence or pen. If you get free-range eggs that means they are allowed to roam wherever.

I don’t think there is a ton of difference based on color, but a huge difference if they are farm-fresh eggs. A lot of it is diet and calcium supplements. Farm-fresh eggs likely have more calcium in the shells and so they might have thicker shells because of that. They are also richer tasting, and the white of the egg is thicker. At least that’s been our experience.

We have Buff Orpington chickens and they lay light brown eggs. Our shells don’t seem too different from storebought but the egg is richer, more flavorful and the white is thicker. I think the yolk to white ratio might have a little more yolk because of the age of our chickens (about 6 months) but it’s not too drastic.

Unfortunately it doesn't (if they're commercial. If you're at the farmer's market and it says "free range" I'm sure it means they roam wherever). Here's the commercial definition:

"The USDA’s (and industry standard) definition for “Free Range” is that birds must have “outdoor access” or “access to the outdoors.” In some cases, this can mean access only through a “pop hole,” with no full-body access to the outdoors and no minimum space requirement.

HFAC’s Certified Humane® “Free Range” requirement is 2 sq. ft. per bird. The hens must be outdoors, weather permitting (in some areas of the country, seasonal), and when they are outdoors they must be outdoors for at least 6 hours per day. All other standards must be met."

However, "pasture raised" chickens are allowed to roam freely within their outdoor enclosure.

But as for the original question, white egg producing chickens are bred specifically to produce very large quantities of uniform white eggs. The smaller eggs they produce at first are usually used for non-shell products like Egg Beaters, or in commercial baked goods. Because commercial flocks are all the same age and breed, this is predictable and they have plans in place for each stage of egg production. But there isn't a large commercial brown egg industry (it takes more feed to produce brown eggs), so the brown egg sellers tend to use smaller producers, who will have more variation in their flock ages and breeds. So that's why there's more variation seen in commercial brown eggs vs commercial white eggs.

Hi everyone :) I have a little 6 month old kitten, Luci, who I am extremely protective over (helicopter mom to the max!!! haha) I definitely struggle with a lot of anxiety surrounding the cat and I’m always so scared I’m gonna find her hurt or missing even though I’ve basically infant proofed my house, sometimes I even struggle to leave the house because I think she’ll be upset when I leave (I’m a high school teacher so there’s a lot of time Luci has to herself) I’ve had a lot of loss in my life so I think I carry a lot of emotions around and Luci is someone I would die to protect, I’m just very scared something is going to happen to her, even though I know deep down nothing will. Do you guys have any advice for this stuff?
