tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 I do have Chewy Auto Delivery. Thanks, anyway!
Wow. That's awful that this is happening. I've seen others posting about not being able to find what they need for their cats, too, on other platforms. A few of our past picks have been discontinued so I've had to find substitutes and for the most part, they're not met with great enthusiasm.

Thanks for asking.

I have not had a supply issue with the RC dry Rabbit.
Chewy now has the RC canned rabbit in stock. I got one case a couple weeks ago. I am planning on ordering another one, for spare.

I am Almost out of the old formula— my spare case of the old one. I only have 5 cans left, so I am slowly introducing the new formula.

It is so maddening!!! I always keep one case/bag as a spay. Now, I am thinking of getting another as a spare. The way things are going.
That's good that you've been able to keep getting the RC Rabbit. I don't blame you, though, for wanting to have an extra spare case.

I'm almost out of Ruby's original food too - the canned duck hypoallergenic. It's good till 2022, so I'm using it sparingly, but it won't last forever.
.
rubysmama rubysmama and artiemom artiemom , have you looked into auto-delivery from Petco or Chewy or 1800PetMeds (yes, they sell food)? If delivery is possible in your areas, it might be a better way to ensure you have what you need. Just a suggestion.
Not sure if any of those companies ship in Canada, but Ruby's food is prescription veterinary, and I order it from their online store. Checking the RC website though, they have a big pop up apologizing for the product availability issues, and taking full responsibility for the issue. So sounds like the shortages are at the source. :sigh:

Thanks for the suggestion, though, tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 .

Perhaps another company serves your country? And what about amazon (even though I'm not a huge fan)?

it's at the source though, aka manufacturer, so unless another shipper had older stock left, they'd be out of stock too. Out of curiosity I checked Amazon, and their selection is worse than Petsmart. Anyway, thanks again for the suggestion. Appreciated.

Ack! I sympathize! I came here while looking for what to do. My sweet cat Ghibli is in the same boat. So far the PD select protein duck wet food from Royal Canin is the only thing he can reliably digest. Of course there may be something else out there, but the trial and error process could kill him (he's elderly and suffers from an extremely fragile digestive system. Required subtotal colectomy surgery 6 years ago for megacolon and I'm terrified of him getting blocked up again). We tried the Hills ZD for a few days last week and it was an utter bloody mess. Literally.

I called Royal Canin and they suggested it might be 5 or 6 months before they can produce this product again! And we're talking all of North America. My vet suggested the Hills ZD, and the only other suggestion they had was Rayne kangaroo, but that's just available online through Mollies.ca in cases. $107 for 12 double-sized cans! (I need to try it, but had to write to them to ask about returns or buying just a few cans, and last time the order took 3 weeks to ship so I won't have it soon).

I don't know what non-vet brands are good, or available in Canada. I feel like this is going to be an exhausting period. I have started trying some of the duck products from regular cat food stores. Mondou has a couple of brands of hypoallergenic duck, but the vets won't even talk about those. I would make his food if I felt it would work, but I'm worried about the trial and error, and on top of his 3 medications every 12 hours it feels like a daunting new area of research.

5 or 6 months! :eek2: That's just terrible news. I'm glad you posted though, so I at least know the situation. :sigh:

I've bought some of the Merrick Limited Ingredient Duck from Petsmart. I also bought some Natural Balance Duck and Green Pea. So I have plenty, for now. But certainly not enough to last 5 or 6 months, and I worry about shortages with other companies. Guess I better do a run of all the pet stores, and see what I can find.

I hope you'll be able to find something that will agree with your Ghibli's digestive system. Good luck. :crossfingers:

Just a thought: have you tried searching the products you want to buy on eBay? Sometimes vendors buy up stock and sell it there.

I'm going to try all the duck products, and then get a hunting licence I guess!

I have! I think it's just across the board the shortage. When I called Royal Canin and said it was about cat food she immediately said, "Let me guess, you want to know about PD Select Protein..."

Yeah, what with the pandemic, container ship problems, and other supply chain woes, it's getting scary out there. *PRAYERS* that everyone who needs specific foods either finds them or finds workable substitutes until things get back to normal.

I laughed at your hunting license comment, and I'm a vegetarian who originally felt weird feeding Ruby a duck cat food. But, as a cat mama, I worry I won't be able to find Ruby food that agrees with her. Hopefully they're saying 5 to 6 months now, but it will be back in stock sooner.

Yeah, we can be vegan, vegetarian, omnivore or whatever, though out internal plumbing and our teeth are those of vegetarians; but cats are obligate carnivores, and if we are going to share our lives with cats, we need to absolutely face that fact and accept it.

Unfortunately I have been hit by the shortage now as well. Have to substitute hills for Kabby. It's all that myvetstore has right now for kidney stones.
Sorry that you've had to join our club. It's not a fun one, that's for sure. I hope the substitute food works for Kabby.

I've found 2 pet store substitutes for Ruby, neither which she loves, but she will eat, and seems to agree with her. I'm just worried they might, too, become hard to find before things are back to normal.
