Hi! I was looking all over to find some help with this issue issue ! I have a 9 week old kitten that is experiencing hair loss around his mouth ! I just recently switched his food too but I am taking him the vet soon.

What food are you feeding your kitten? there is a recall right now for certain cat food I forgot the name but idk if that may be the case or not but I have been using meow mix for years and fancy feast wet food which I just switched the wet food to friskeys due to my new kitten not being able to eat the fancey feast, makes his poo smell awe-full do you have a picture you can show another thing is if he continues to loose hair around his face it could be likely anything from warewolf syndrome mutation to mange the only way to know really what it is would be to see a vet and really it could be anything so many things that can cause hair loss from stress to disease , anything

It may be chin acne, which is a dermatitis condition that comes from him getting food particles in the fur around his mouth when he eats. The hair follicles then get infected, which results in hair loss.

The treatment is an antibiotic and/or topical prescription cream. Also, feed your kitten on a flat plate to minimize his face getting in the food, and use ceramic bowls when he gets bigger - no plastic or metal.

Clean his face around his mouth with a warm, damp cloth after his wet food meals. After cleaning, apply Neosporin to the affected area. And definitely see the vet for prescriptions!

I changed his food and I switched his bowls to class but I’ll try the flat ceramic plates ! But he is scheduled for a vet visit soon! Thank you so much!

Do clean the affected areas daily and apply Neosporin. It sounds like it’s dermatitis rather than the actual food itself, unless he has an allergy. Also, chicken food is better for kittens than fish food.

Good you have a vet appointment scheduled. Can you post a picture of his face so we can see what’s going on?
