I think your university friend’s story is extreme exception to the rule. And once the hormonal challenge is gone, they generally don’t have that wander lust anymore. And you know you can always trim their toenails with a toenail trimmer if they will allow that. Some cats will, with some cats it’s more difficult. I used to have a cat that I used to have to trim one toenail at a time but it worked. And I understand that you would have a lot of time to devote to a kitten right now. But after that time is up, the kitten is still going to need that time which it seems like you will not be able to provide. that also may be a consideration of for you. I would go, if possible to the shelter and see if they have any cats that seem to fit your needs. The shelter people generally know the animals at least fairly well And should be able to find someone that you can coexist with on good terms (and of course, love the living daylights out of 😻)
Ok then.If I find such a cat in the shelter I'll try to adopt it.And after reading ObeseChess ObeseChess reply,I decided to put 2 layers of netting so even if it climbs or try to leap,it won't succeed. And now that I think about it, adoption from the center is much nobler. In that way I'll be saving a cat,and I'll also be opening a space for the shelter for another animal...But are the cats in the center vaccinated (they were stray cats at one time ),if not then I'll need to vaccinate them. And I'll also state my terms to the people at the center (only 1 term that is I can provide it 30 minutes every day.My sister is gonna provide 15 minutes. But I will clean the food platter etc and that won't be counted in the 45 minutes time.If the cat will be able to love a healthy happy lifestyle then only I'll do it)

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 Umm,ma'm ,did you adopt the cat from an shelter or from a breeder and what was the age of the cat then??? I just wanted to know the personal experience of having a kitten ( if u had one ofc) . And,how to say this but...in the internet I found that some "experienced" male cats still may run away to mate with females ,even after getting neutered...Tbh that is the only thing I'm worried about now,and that's the main reason why I'm trying to get a kitten (despite knowing it's gonna be hyperactive). Because,if I neuter the kitty before it becomes......"experienced"....it's not going to want to run away and bring me 5 more kittens.Andive figured that I can probably trim it's nails once every few months by bribing it some yummy catfood.

Assalamo alaikum wa ramatullahe wa barakatahoo.
I still think you will be able to share life with and love a cat in future. You have the interest and the desire to do so. But maybe now is not the best of times or places.
Each cat is different, as each human is different. They are highly intelligent and some experts think, more sensitive than humans. Certainly they are more sensitive than most humans! But just as a background, I have lived all my life, since conception! with cats, and the benefits far outweigh the problems. I have very few problems with my cats. They are very close to perfect! And any "accidents" are easily cleaned so they may never have happened. Of course all of my cats stay indoors only for their safety and health, and are spayed/neutered at the earliest possible time, also for their safety and wellbeing.
There should be a cat in your future. Just maybe not right now.
Oh,and about that...so...I'm still wondering if I deserve to get a cat or not...Well,I can certainly say that things are going better with my parents..The only ones still hesitant are my mom and grandma ,but my dad and sister are now completely ok with the fact I'm gonna get one.In fact, they even agreed to it.And now I've also decided to put two layers of nets in the balconies. And I know this is a weird question but are cats dangered by bathrooms?? I mean, they are wet and slippery and the toilet is just a big hole....

I haven't read the entire thread, but I do want to echo a few things I saw mentioned earlier on:

1. You should absolutely rescue an older cat. I am a new cat owner who plucked a senior cat off the street about a year ago and she is incredibly low maintenance and just as full of love and friendship as any other animal, possibly more so. Having a kitten is an incredibly difficult full-time job and if and when you do decide that a cat is right for you, there are plenty of old cats who will give you as much love as you deserve with a lot less stress. It's a good learning curve!

2. For the balcony, I enclosed my third-floor apartment balcony in two "layers" of chicken wire, one on top of the other, and my cat has never tried to climb them - it would be remarkably difficult, though possible. I would suggest a similar solution for yours when the time comes.
Thanks alot, and I'll surely put two layers of net so even if it tried to climb it,it won't be able to get to get to the other side. And I think that adopting a senior cat will be a bit difficult for a teen like me, especially since it's my first time and seniors are much more likely to get diseases than junior cats.

Almost all of the cats in my life (and there are/have been many since literally my conception!) have been "stray"/unhoused/living on the streets. These cats are my favorites. They need safety and love. And mixed-breed cats tend to be healthier and longer-lived than "purebred" cats (kind of like people). Experts recommend spay/neuter when the cat is over 2 pounds in weight, or certainly by four or five months. There are so many cats and every one deserves love and protection. So we do not want to see more cats in need, living on the streets and living hard lives. Also, not spaying/neutering early can contribute to illnesses in the cat, such as mammary cancer in females. And once a cat begins spraying (females can also spray. One of my little girls, who was spayed, sprayed so much we nicknamed her "Squirtle"! But she was unusual in that respect), and it becomes habitual, it usually doesn't change. Having a cat is not easy, and there is much education a person needs to go through before being a responsible cat guardian. Also, adoption should be for life, not just for awhile. A cat is a sensitive, intelligent being and deserving of lifelong respect and protection, no matter what.
Yes, the traditional Asian toilet would be dangerous, absolutely. A cat should not be allowed to go into that room at all.

By toilet I mean the ones that have a shell or something...I don't mean the one where you literally need to sit on your knees,I'm talking about the modern one.And have your cats tried to run away even after being neutered (I heard that females are less likely to ).And if one of your cats have been a kitten, did you struggle alot to raise it (to a cat of 1 year age)..And now,I'm thinking about adopting a cat (1-4 yr old one) ,since I'm not sure if I'm gonna be capable of handling a kitten...

And apart from that,wow...You are certainly the most noble and kind hearted cat guardian I have ever seen 😲😲😲...I have never seen anyone as noble as you ! You have my respect and I pray that Allah keeps you and your cats safe and healthy ❤❤❤

Thank you for your kind words. My parents were great cat lovers and very kind people, and the credit goes to them for educating me to be compassionate and a lover of cats also.
As long as the shell is down, then, it should be all right; but if anyone leaves it up, then it would not be.
I am fortunate to have a house with a lot of doors, and the most important thing in my life includes keeping my cats safe indoors, so I am very, very careful to make sure the door is closed when I go out. My roommates also are very careful because the conditions of moving with me include keeping my cats safe. They love them too. My cats are 16 and 13, and they never try to run away. Actually they prefer to stay in our bedroom, and when they go into other rooms in the house, they never try to run away. They have lots of cat furniture, scratching pads and posts (cats need to scratch to shed old claw sheaths), toys, comfortable places to sleep, and love, most importantly! There are lots of windows to look out, too. I buy the best cat foods I can afford, and feed wet cat food 3 times daily plus high quality dry cat food free-choice, plus fresh water daily, because I love them! and because, just as with people, the better the diet, the better the health.
I have raised kittens who found me and needed me, but for the most part, my cats have come to me as "teenagers" or adults. The first thing is a vet appointment for health checkup and innoculations, and spay or neuter. Two adult cats will keep each other company when you are not with them; they will play together, curl up together and comfort each other. It may take time for them to become friends, but if you adopt cats from the same family, they will likely not need time as they will already be bonded.
Praying that when the time is right, you will be able to share life with a cat or cats and that it will be a wonderful experience for you all. Khoda hafiz waSalaam.

I recommend getting an older cat. Kittens really aren't that trainable. You can teach them some simple (and clever) tricks with treats for incentives. But as far as teaching them not to get into trouble, that's trying to teach a kitten not to be a kitten. With an older cat, they don't tend to get up to as much mischief. They're far more content to sleep or simply sit or lay near you without having to get into everything, knock things over, and go everywhere you don't want them.

I’ve adopted many adult female cats and none of them have tried to run away. I’ve also had younger cats (male and female) who I’ve had to get neutered and they have never tried to run away. I’ve also never had a female that sprayed-not that it can’t happen, as tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 said of her kitty, but that is definitely more the exception than the rule. 😻 Always keep in mind that an open door can be seen as an invitation to investigate by a kitty. It doesn’t mean they’re trying to escape, it just appeals to their natural curiosity and that could get them into trouble. So it’s up to the 2 legged inhabitants of the house to be cautious when opening doors and making sure the cats aren’t in the area when the door is open.

So,you say that I can adopt a 1-4 year female cat, neuter it,and then it won't try to run away even if it has previous mating experience? And btw,I'm getting the cat next week, can you please tell me the appropriate age for that cat (I know it's gotta be old but how old?) And thanks for helping me reach this decision. 🙇🏻‍♂️

and the reason I was worried about it running away because all the people I know who have kept cats, had their cats run away. (they were probably not neutered as they told me the cats had run away with another cat of the opposite sex)So,I grew paranoid and searched it up on the internet where it showed something like,"The sexual desires of most of the cats are greatly reduced after being neutered. However, experienced male cats may still roam off with a female cat, even if it's neutered."

And btw,I'm getting the cat next week but I'm still unsure of the appropriate age for the cat...And I have decided that I will dedicate as much as time possible to her.

About 4 to 6 years or older.
Ok,then I'll try getting a 4-6 yr old cat.But before search on Google -"do cats still feel the urge to mate even after getting neutered".The please read the first one (from vca hospital)

Here,it shows about male cats only. But does this also apply for female cats??

Female cats, experienced or not, do not feel the urge to mate after being spayed.

A cat is considered a kitten until (s)he is one year old. A "teenager" would be a cat of almost a year. I agree with other posters that a cat of 4-6 years would be a very good choice. My 16-year-old and 13-year-old are still playful. But they are not as hyperactive as kittens, so they are much more calm and serene.
I always get all of my cats spayed/neutered as soon as possible. But in my life, I adopted a family of cats, and of course, got them all spayed/neutered. I noticed one male cat, Nila, mating with his sister Tara and also with his sister Maya, so I called our vet and told him. His answer? He laughed and said, "Oh, let him have his fun." He assured me that Nila was neutered and that no issue would come of it. Of course he was right. My Elvis tried to mate with our angel Tarifa; both are/were spayed/neutered. But he loved her and he wanted to. She usually whapped him and sometimes hissed, but she was fond of him. Elvis is very affectionate and loving. He does not ever try it with Baby Su,though, because she never lets him near.

After hearing about your Nila I kinda feel bad...If I adopt only one female cat,she will kinda feel lonely. But in the current situation I think that adopting only one neutered 4-6 yr old female is gonna be the best. Then, after 5 or 6 years,I may adopt another one.Anyways, thanks, and that was all of my questions. And I have decided that I'll adopt the cat on the 5 of july, after my exams end.
