They've approved the Pfizer vaccine for ages 12-15. Moderna and J&J think they'll get approval next month. Hopefully that helps us get closer to herd immunity and will prevent some school outbreaks.
My SIL is excited - my nephew turned 12 back in January, so he'll be eligible. That'll make everyone in our families vaccinated except the babies (and J's breastfeeding, so hopefully somewhat protected).

Moderna #2 for me tomorrow!

Yeah I just read something by a health department head who went to bars and offered people a beer to get vaccinated, and she says it worked very well. Of course that's mostly people in their 20s and 30s, and most "just hadn't gotten around to it", they weren't hard-core vaccine deniers. But it does show that there's room to get the numbers up a little, just need some good incentives.

It is such a shame that we have to go to all these measures just to get people vaccinated.. It is a really sad commentary on the state of mankind... seriously... just shaking my head..

Well, if you don't like the vaccine, try the disease!

My daughter works in a pharmacy and has 4 colleagues who refuse to be vaccinated. The boss has had to forbid them to advise customers, as they believe that even the Corona quick test inflicts injury to the body. I thought vaccine deniers were mostly young, healthy individuals who don't believe anything can happen to them but religion seems to play a very big role. 😒

Actually, religious objections are the #1 stated reason for anti-vaxxers. . .but no mainstream religion/denomination disallows vaccines. So I guess people are allowed to make up whatever excuse they want. I'm not in favor of religious exemptions in most cases anyway, but if it's going to be allowed I wish they'd ask for some kind of proof. Written material from their church, or maybe a note from their pastor? Idk, just seems weird to let people claim anything they want and automatically give it respect because "that's their religious belief".

Hmm. The CDC has advised that fully vaccinated people don't need to wear masks, indoors or out. I wonder if stores will stop mask mandates right away, wait for a certain vaccination threshold in their community, or what. I don't think most will ask for proof of vaccination.

There is a neighborhood in Cincinnati with the lowest vaccination rate in the city, only 13%. They are holding a vaccination clinic at a church and they will have free pizza.

I just see the anti-vax/anti-mask crew lying about it and ruining it for those who did the right thing or those who can't get vaccinated.

They are making every effort to make it convenient, easy and completely free. Uber is even giving free rides for vaccines. I don't know about very rural areas but otherwise no one has an excuse for not getting vaccinated. We are taking a lot of criticism for not releasing vaccinations to developing countries to keep them very easy and convenient. At some point soon we will need to start donating them to other countries.

We did send a bunch of J&J vaccines to India....Or was it Astra Zeneca?

I know we have been giving the Astra Zeneca to other countries. They are still trying to get FDA approval but it was one that we had pre-purchased. That doesn't mean there is an issue with the vaccine. They didn't do the large scale controlled studies that makes it easy to get the data that the FDA wants. They are gathering data from actual use. That makes it harder because they didn't have a large placebo group to compare with.

Many on this thread understand how the coronavirus that causes FCOV stays inside the cats body, and then later mutates to a strain that causes FIP.

I wish to again applaud those worldwide who stepped up early to volunteer for the different vaccine trials.
I tried to, yet they were not accepting us old, multiple comorbidity box checkers.
It would be too difficult to tell if a follow on health failure was due to the comorbidities, clouding the trial results.
I equate these younger trial folks to those who helped neighbors plant victory gardens in WWII.
Millions of successful doses later, and we hear the whining antivaxxers, who I equate to those who would reach over the fence to steal tomatoes from the young war widow's victory garden.

Letting the CoV-SARS-2 virus and it's future mutations develop is much more risk than the current US CoVID19 vaccines.

They always want younger healthy people for vaccine trials. There were people who wanted to go a step further to speed things up. They wanted a trial where people would be intentionally exposed. The medical community wouldn't go along with it because the number in the trial was large enough and there was enough COVID circulating in the community. That isn't really necessary anyway, they can check antibody levels in the blood.

Franklin Graham is urging Evangelicals to get vaccinated.

Some are saying the no-mask decision was too abrupt, but the CDC has released the study that made them change their recommendations. In practical terms, there's no real chance of a fully vaccinated person passing the virus on or getting seriously ill.
Interim Estimates of Vaccine Effectiveness of Pfizer-BioNTech ...

Walmart/Sam's, Trader Joe's, and Costco have all said that those who are fully vaccinated can go without a mask, including employees. They will not ask for proof of vaccination from customers, which of course means that very few people will be wearing a mask at Walmart. Costco and Trader Joe's shoppers may be more honest, idk.

They can ask for proof from employees, which means that some more people might be motivated to get a vaccine. My brother works at Walmart and hasn't been vaccinated because he has a needle phobia. But if it means he can ditch the mask, and especially if Walmart offers the J&J vaccine (only one shot) to him right in-store, he just might go for it. We'll see.

It'll be good if employers can ask for proof for unmasking. I'd hope schools would do that as well, so parents that send their kids would know that if a teacher wasn't vaccinated, they'd still have to wear a mask.

Huh, Walmart/Sam's is offering their employees $75 to get vaccinated (retroactive if they already have been). Staring on May 18th, proof of vaccination turned in=$75 on your next paycheck. Seems like a random number, lol, but hopefully it'll work. Better than a free beer so it should be somewhat effective  .
