My cat was on prescription diet for 2 years (HP/ZD/PR/PV) and we finally at the vets direction started giving him regular food again... However, I have tried numerous WET brands of food (Hound & Gatos, Weruva, Lotus, TikiCat, Stella, Nulo) and he is turning his face up to everything.. He may eat a tiny bit but that is it.

We are avoiding chicken and duck at this time, but any helpful tips would be great! I am at my wits end.

Hi. Was the prescription food dry or canned? And, are you doing a gradual change? An abrupt change can sometimes be a deterrent for eating new food. Also, if the previous food was dry food, some cats will also react to going from dry to canned. I would start by mixing a little bit of the new with the old, and see what happens. This can be done with dry as well, if the script food was dry, as you merely add a little bit of the new canned food like a topper to the dry food. You might also consider giving him a small portion of canned food alongside a small portion of the prescription food as another test to see how he reacts. If this issue is tied to migrating from dry to canned, you could also start adding some water to the dry food to try to get him used to softer food.

Have you tried Fancy Feast? I know a lot of them have some degree of chicken in them, but not all of them as far as I know. Also, similar to Sheba, you could try Nutro, Iams, and/or Crave.

He has always been very picky, and the script was for Dry HP and wet z/d but he had stopped eating the z/d so this is always an issue.

I am going to try something else

Right now I'm feeding Delilah Wellness. There is also Merrick with some limited protein.

If he's a kibble addict, you might try taking some of the prescription kibble and crushing it, then use that as a topper on the new wet food.

I have an extremely picky eater also. To get him to eat I usually have to use toppers AND hold his bowl for him. Maybe if I'm lucky he will eat half his meal. This has been going on since he was a wee lad, so for 12 years now. I've tried every brand available to me, every type (pate, minced, slices, etc.), and every protein. Tried every single one mentioend so far in this thread, and n go, not even Fancy Feast, which supposedly every cat likes. You are not alone :alright:. One difference, my boy doesn't like kibble either.

Why was he on the rx diet? We just switched to hydrolyzed and my kitty loves it.

Hi Peachiekitty Peachiekitty for possible food allergies but seems like he doesn't have any. Suspect are chicken and duck.
