He is just a dog.” That infuriated me and I shot back with teary eyes, “He aint just a dog. He is family.”
Yea, that's what they'll always say. I get fed up with such remarks. Yes, they are family and most of the times, much better than family.

Jcatbird Jcatbird Thank you for thinking about me. I been hanging in there. My insomia has been off the hook lately. I may have to go to the doctor about it, if it doesn't improve. Some not so great things happened in the last while, but trying to stay the course. I keep telling myself "what ever doesn't kill you, makes you stronger."

Keeping 🤞that Thrasher decides to come home once and for all. BTW, thank you for rescuing that lovely Quail. You are a magnet to all critters. They know you are a good person. Thanks for helping them. :rock:I

Ancient Egypt, while not perfect as a society, had the right idea on cats. Anyone harming one got taken out. I advocate for that law to be brought back, globally.
This morning I saw a bee on the ground and moved it to a safer part of the patio. I think she was not long for this world, but I wanted to make sure she was safe.
THRASHER. This isn't funny any more. You've proven your point. Whatever that may be. You know the life at Chez Catbird is much better than life as a hobo cat. So COME IN.
BJ and Banjo are adorable! So devoted to one another. That's what family SHOULD be all about.

Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 Ozzy sounds absolutely beautiful. A map cat! Lol I am sure that some socializing is ahead. ;)
Thrasher is the best of all kitties a hiding. She always was an expert at that. However, I am verrry patient. I believe she will come. Believe.
I'm trying to get a photo of both Ozzy and Splish, but if I have the phone or camera with me, they stay away! I THINK THEY KNOW!

Oh yes, there are not one but many many many. Many people take animals as a lower life form and have no respect and love for them. Many regard them as just an animal and nothing more. There was someone I know who said that if he sees a cat outside, he'll kick it. I told him, if I see you kicking a cat, I'll kick you back on behalf of the cat and then I'll report you to the authorities.
I once watched my very gentle, loving father grab a "cowboy" who was in the process of beating a young filly into submission as part of "breaking" her and stomp him into a mudhole. He turned to me and said, "Baby Girl, violence is never, ever the first resort, but very, very rarely, it is the only one." Thankfully, no police got involved (cowboys, in general, respect handling issues "man to man"), and Dad took the filly over with the heartfelt agreement of the owner, who was crying hysterically over the beating. She had been told it was "the only way to break them." It took more time to rebuild her trust than it did to have her gentled and trained for riding after the trust was regained. She became a wonderful horse, so willing to cooperate. Dad and Monty Roberts would have understood each other very well.

pearl99 pearl99 Snow? Wow! It’s cold here but clear. Happy snuggling!

tabbytom tabbytom Too bad you couldn’t act like a cat and spray those boys with a scent that would really make them run!:insertevillaugh: Every life counts and who is to say which life may play the most important part in our world? A dog may save a life, a cat may save a soul, a human may save neither or both.

Maria Bayote Maria Bayote My family has learned that all life is very important to me. My Dad looks at my rescuing of all creatures as “a calling” that I will not deny.

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 The Egyptians respected cats as they should have. As we should.
I am glad you gave the bee peace. Something we would all want.
Indeed, Banjo and BJ understand what family should be. If only we all had family like that.
Thrasher may be just staying safe. We have an owl. I have taken owl scaring up as a new art form. I set up more feral type shelters today. More will be coming.

Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 No animal needs to be “broken.” The cowboy must have been broken himself to use those methods. I find that damaged humans continue the damage onto others. A cycle of cruelty. Sometimes the only thing those people understand is someone using the only language they know. Sad but true.

I will be here as I can. I am on scarecrow duty but I don’t want to scare kitties. I am using flashing lights in the sky and trees to run off an owl. That may be how the little quail ce to be hiding here.

Flash and colored lights for the owl. Normally I love owls but right now he needs to go live somewhere else.

Using tarps as tents and tunnels gives safe places to sleep and eat. My plant benches are great to use to support tarp covers.

An old Army cot has a large cat carrier on top of it. That is covered with a tarp. Food can be put at a small distance but I don’t want birds above to see a cat coming and going. There is are exits that previous ferals made under the fence and I know Thrasher used these exits before. I provided a covered runway with shade cloth that is made for greenhouses. This leads to a safe potty area that is covered by another tarp. IF Thrasher is in the swamp, this is a route she could take to return and stay out of view from the owl.

A possum came into the cat room tonight. I ran him off and he went to the front porch. I also saw a cat on the front porch. Hard to tell on night vision who I am seeing though.

The body shape seems more like a Tom to me though. I am not getting my hopes up that it was Thrasher but I am encouraged that the catio is appealing to a cat. Kitty left through the cat room. BJ and others did take notice.

I got a cat gift this morning. Lol
I put my foot in my bedroom slipper and...

Good morning hooman!
I think I heard a cat laughing. Always check your shoes!

tabbytom tabbytom Also a good point! :flail:We need some bottled Eau de Cat par-fume! Or purrfume? Hmmm. It seems that there are cat scented perfumes out there. One is supposed to smell like cat heads.(Wrong end for our purrposes!) Lol Another like kittens. Maybe that would work instead? Who can resist a cat if they bury their face in kittens?

Oh, that's just cruel. The entire reason for slippers is to keep feet safe from morning surprises!

You're doing an excellent job setting up safety spots for Thrasher. Hopefully you'll see results and she'll get her little furry butt home soon. 🤗

Yes! April is our second snowiest month. March is our first snowiest. Spring in Colorado! Got 2 feet in one snow in March, this one I got 10 inches of heavy wet stuff. Broke a branch on my favorite tree. We need the moisture though. Daffodils and crocuses are buried!

SO true about the cowboy! In the Mojave they still have rodeos. I blasted someone in town for being all excited that it was going to be happening and told them I wanted it shut down. Not that that happened in what I called The Land That Time Forgot, but I wanted them to know that not everyone up there was an ignorant, heartless waste of space.
The Egyptians weren't perfect, as they sacrificed cats so that the worshippers would have cat mummies for their religion. Terrible, but true. You can look that up. I had thought it might be due to the European occupation (Romans) but apparently not.
Owls? Yeah, they can be dangerous. We ran wire all over above our barn compound for that reason, because there are owls out there, as well as golden eagles, which are really large birds.
I even move the bees that have fallen from the concrete into the dirt, so the earth can take them. That's our way.
