I'm glad it's more peaceful in your new place! I know you're already short on room, but would an air filter help with the smell, maybe?

That is a lot of medicine, but I'm hopeful your health will improve the longer you're out of that stressful situation and maybe it won't be permanent.

Glad things are mostly going well.

It's great that your brother isn't asking for rent. Being able to save money will help you reach your goal of your own place.

The musty smell is a bit of a concern, especially since you can't open the window. Maybe you could find a removable screen at Amazon that would work: Amazon.com : removable window screen

Still have my fingers crossed that you get the new job. :crossfingers:

And about the meds, like Lari Lari , maybe once your heath improves, you'll be able to lower dosage, or even eliminate some of them.

I will do that, thank you!

So far i have had three interviews. But they told me the process can take long.

Thats true. I just wonder if departments i apply for will call him even though i put not to contact my boss. lol

Still no luck with finding a job. But i will continue trying. The kitties are happy. They just dont like when i stay away from the room too long. lol

I decided not to tell him. Not worth the risk as you mentioned.

It does feel like my mom is watching over me. Just miss having her around. So many things would be different if she were still here.

I'm sorry i havent been posting. I am still trying to get my things over here and trying to find a way to fit everything i need in my small room. My car is small so i cant bring over everything so fast.

Things are going well. There havent been any problems. I get to spend more time with my nieces and nephew. I offered my brother to pay rent or help in any way i could. He told me to save up my money. So he is being very kind to me.

The only negative is the cats being stuck in such a tiny bedroom. My old room has an issue that it didnt have a couple of years back. Theres this odd musty/dusty smell. The windows were opened for a few days. The floor cleaned with bleach. I even dusted and sprayed disinfectant on the walls with a wet rag.

I cannot get the smell to go away. It even gets on my towel. Makes me sick to my stomach. I cant even air out the room anymore since the window doesnt have a screen. I was told the ac was leaking while i was away. But the ac systems are now new. But perhaps the water caused some kind of issue.

Thankfully thats the only issue i am having. Everything has been peaceful here.

I had a doctors appointment yesterday. They had to increase my BP meds. I was put on two different medications to control my sugar. They put me on cholesterol meds. Not to mention the hormone meds i am already on. I hate having to take all these medications. So thats been stressing me out. These meds help you. while also causing damage.
Good to hear from you and thanks for the progress report, terestrife terestrife -- sounds like you're doing really, really well. I have read that coffee grounds soak up smells. There are also products readymade that you can buy (search "odor-soaking products" for many links) that help with this. Some people also recommend de-humidifiers if it is a musty smell.
Praying for you and thinking of you all!:vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::cheerleader:

I do have an air purifier, and its next to my door where my towel is and the smell still got on the towel.

However, i just bought a product called Damprid and the smell is gone after just a few days! I am so relieved, the smell was making me sick.

I do hope my health improves, i admit to using food for comfort, and the medicine i am on causes hunger. So that makes things worse, and the weight gain has worsened my health. I have started exercising, just need to figure out how to fix up my diet and stop turning to food when i am stressed.

Thankfully the smell is finally gone. Thanks for the link! It looks like a good product. My brother wants to put window screens. But money is tight, and he is slowly updating his home. The window screens should be put in place eventually.

Yes, i used a product that absorbs smells. I can finally spend time in my room. lol i was avoiding the room because of the smell. I felt bad having the kitties in there. Thankfully no one is getting allergies with the kitties in my room. My brother doesnt complain as he never sees them.

Everything is peaceful here. My sister in law is putting effort into making me feel welcome. Its nice to live with someone that i can communicate with and i dont feel dismissed.

My sister in law has started taking care of my nephew (the one i lived with that harassed my cats.) Guess what? All the behavior issues that i tried warning my niece about have become a problem. She didnt bother teaching him how to treat the cats, and now he is using that behavior against other children.

My brother has 3 kids (10 y/o, 2 y/o, 1 y/o.) He ended up throwing a tablet and hitting the 1 y/o on the shoulder. It barely missed her face. He doesnt listen, throws things, and hits them with things. Everything that i warned her he was doing to the cats. Now she considers it a big deal and is trying to discipline him. Half heartedly...

I feel guilty criticizing her as shes a new mom. But after how she acted with the cats, i dont feel too bad for her. i do feel bad for my nephew, as none of this is his fault. But he is so spoiled, he doesnt listen to anything. He runs away when you call him to you. He throws a tantrum for everything.

Dont get me wrong, he has a very sweet side to him. But she is creating an angry and aggressive child. Shes so stubborn she wont listen, and she has her mom in her ear telling her hes normal.

I'm glad the smell is gone!

Your poor nephew. It's normal for small children to push limits to see what they can get away with, but they're looking for boundaries. Your niece isn't serving him well at all.

Thanks god your cats are in a safe environment and that you and they are getting along well there. Very glad about the Damprid working.
Kids are blank slates. What else can they be? It's up to their guardians to raise them and teach them. I have no sympathy or empathy for anyone who treats cats with anything but respect and love and gentleness. But kids have to be taught about these values/behaviors. Your nephew is obviously not being taught them. But it's not your problem. I'd stay as far away from all of them as possible. They are nothing but bad news, family or not. I am estranged from my mom's side of the family because they are bad news. Not my fault. Theirs. Learning lessons the hard way doesn't mean they aren't learned, once and for all.

Its odd. We all keep telling him to not push and he just keeps doing it. Everyone is trying to be consistent and we tell him no as soon as he does it. He keeps pushing and throwing things. He'll shove my 1 year old niece as he runs around, or tries to push past her to get to a toy/slide first.

Not sure how we are going to get him to listen, and i just hope my niece really is reinforcing things at home.

My nephew comes over here three times a week. So i still have to see his bad behavior. My niece is working 3 days a week, I feel bad for my nephew, and worry he will struggle in school. But his mom is the one that needs to change her ways. She doesnt listen, and she has her ridiculous mom in her ear telling her theres nothing wrong with him. I've never seen a child that doesnt listen like this. That does nothing but push, hit, and throw things. Throw tantrums for everything. I do mostly stay in my room so i wont need to see the bad behavior.

Still feel a bit down. I dont know if its the medicine i am on, but i still get annoyed easily. I am happy here, so i dont know what else can be causing it. My niece talks so much and asks so many questions. I last for a while, but i eventually tell her shes making me dizzy. I want to spend time with her because this is an important period in her life. She's 10 years old, this is the time where you need to stay close to make sure they arent losing their way. I get a headache sometimes just hearing her chatter. She wants to spend time with me, which is a good thing. But all she wants to watch are things that i have no interest in. On top of that she talks throughout the entire movie. I used to have patience for her quirks and found them humorous.

I also get annoyed with the cats just wanting affection. I pet them and spend time with them. But there are times i dont want anyone even near me or touching me. I didnt used to be this way. I wasnt a very touchy feely person, but i wouldnt get upset like this. Not sure how to force myself to try to be more patient with everyone. I put in effort, but i always get to the point that i need to separate myself to avoid getting too upset.

Not sure whats wrong. I was never THIS impatient. I had my bad days like anyone else. But this is a constant thing.

Anyway, I've been going through some old things, and donating old things that i dont need. I am struggling with letting go. I have the last purse my mom used, and a purse that she bought me. I dont use either one anymore. I need to make space. And yet i struggle to let go of something so simple.

Does everyone tell your nephew "don't hit" and "don't throw", because I've heard some kids will just hear/focus on the last word spoken, so it's more likely to get through if you say what you want them to do instead, like "gentle hands."

I can't blame you for having trouble getting rid of things you don't use that have sentimental value.

Certainly could be the meds. Have you Googled them to see what side effects are common.

Wait a couple years, and you'll be begging her to put her phone down and talk to you for a minute. ;)

Totally normal to hold on to sentimental things, even ones you don't use. Maybe just keep one of the purses, whichever one you feel the least most attached to. 🤗

All drugs have side effects and some do make some people more irritable. I'd absolutely understand about the nephew and your sister -- I would not have any patience where they are concerned, and I'd be grateful that it's not my problem. But he is on a path to becoming a very antisocial adult and he definitely needs professional help. Otherwise, no one should be surprised at anything that happens regarding him later in his life. I'm not saying this to be mean, but because it's realistic. He's a kid, and so he needs adults to step up NOW and intervene; but you are not that adult. I'd stay well away from him, and her, since she refuses to do the right thing and is in total denial.
Your niece? Yeah, kids go through those stages. You're being patient with her and letting her know gently when you've had enough. That's the best you can do and again, she's not your problem, either, no matter what you thought in the past.
My beloved cats are my refuge from everything else in life. They are my unconditionally loyal and loving best friends and family members, who are there for me and who comfort me.

I think so. Sometimes we say no. Or we say no hitting. I finally understand what you meant. i have another nephew that i am living with in this new house. He tends to scream often. If you ask him, why are you screaming? Even in a gentle tone, he gets triggered and starts screaming even louder.

He does seem to respond when his mom says Shh in a quiet tone. But then there are times that nothing calms him. I wonder if this is a boy thing? Never seen any of my nieces freak out this much.

My other nephew (the one i used to live with) isnt coming by anymore. My niece quit her job. She went over her hours, and she got mad they wouldnt pay her. She made the dumb choice to have another child. She cant control the one she has, and can barely afford to have him. But chose to have another child. Thank God i moved out when i did. They would have been annoying me to help more if i had stayed.

Certainly could be the meds. Have you Googled them to see what side effects are common.

Supposedly they do cause mood swings. And believe me, i know that teens want to be closer to their friends. lol That is one of the reasons that i make the time to spend with her. Shes only 10 years old now. To be honest, i wish i had more time with myself. There are times i am irritable, dont feel well, and just want to be alone. Being with a very loud and talkative 10 year old isnt easy. But so far I have learned that if you make the time to bond with kids before they become teens, the bond doesnt go away when they become a teen. I have another niece that i helped raise. She still made time for me even though she seemed to favor her friends. lol Shes in her 20s now and we are still very close. Its so easy for teens to get lost nowadays so i want to be there. If you take the time and listen as they talk to you, you can catch things early.

I have warned my niece and even told her shes raising an aggresive child. But i cant force her to listen. I dont see my nephew much anymore because my niece quit her job. Shes now pregnant as well.

You are not being mean at all. I worry about my nephew too. I dont like how he seems to enjoy hurting others. He has moments where he shows remorse and will hug after hitting. But he seems to enjoy it as he hurts others. I dont know if thats normal. Its always his instinct to hit as soon as he has anything in his hands.

I've been trying to keep myself busy. I still havent been able to find a new job. But i am keeping up with applying. I have taken up the task of digitizing our family photos. Having something to do helps me mentally. I am either doing that, or fixing up my room. The rest of my time is taken up by my niece. lol So i apologize if i havent been posting.

I hope everyone is doing well.:heartshape:

Edit: I just put up a post as i noticed some strange birth marks on Elsa. I am panicking. I dont want her sick or to have to go through anything bad. My vet isnt allowing people into his office due to covid. And on top of everything i am broke. I know its awful to think of money. But you all know i cant afford my own place, much less expensive treatments. I pray she doesnt have anything bad.

If it's a boy vs girl thing I think it's probably a lot to do with how they're socialized from such a very young age, even with the messaging on their clothing. But I will say in my years teaching preschool, I had children of both sexes who were sweet and quiet, and also ones who had alllll the drama.

Making time to bond with the 10 y/o doesn't mean you can't have boundaries! It would be really healthy for her to see that you want to spend time with her, but also be able to say "hey, I need some alone time to help recharge". When she gets older that will have been a great model for her not to just always put herself last, which you know a lot if us women do.

I have nothing nice to say about other niece being pregnant again considering everything with nephew, so I'll hold my tongue.

Interesting, i have never had a niece that was violent, or would freak out as much. lol But you are right, all children are so unique and different, it makes sense that it wouldnt only be boys that have behavioral issues.

Thank you for the advice about my 10 y/o niece. What you say is true. I have the habit of putting myself last, and dont like to hurt the feelings of a child. But i do have to look after myself too.

Dont feel bad about your negative thoughts about my niece being pregnant. The same thoughts went through my mind. Not much i can do, except pray for good things for the baby. Who is innocent in all of this.

Agree with Lari Lari 100%.
And ..." I dont know if thats normal. " NO, IT IS NOT. The child has some serious problems. He needs professional help IMHO. If he does not get it he will almost certainly grow up to be more troubled, and probably do harm to others. He is on a serious trajectory. This is NOT your problem, however, and if his mother and father will not do something now, it is a very, very sad situation.

I did my part by warning her, and she has her mom in her ear telling her that his behavior is normal. Thankfully i dont live there and dont need to worry too much about it.

My job is planning to send us back on July. I am not looking forward to it. I am sleepy all day long and dont have much energy. I havent felt well since even before the pandemic happened. Its too bad that more companies arent staying open to continuing remote work. Especially when dealing with miami traffic. It lessens the people driving around.

Yeah, it's so much better when people are allowed to work from home! Better for them, the environment, and most importantly, their CATS :winkcat: ;)
IDK if I mentioned it before, but have you tried/are you interested in green tea capsules/tablets? You can get them at Walgreens or "health food" stores, or probably most other drug stores/online. They are inexpensive, natural, and help boost energy in a safe way.

Its starting to drive me crazy to have the cats in my room. I feel like i constantly clean but every inch of my room is full of their fur and litter. It makes my room feel filthy. I have a robot vacuum that helps. Even my cube drawers which are fabric get completely full of their hair. My chair constantly has their fur.

Im stuck sleeping in the bed tent, which stops air flow. I am already hot because of my messed up hormones. I feel so angry all the time. I get annoyed when my niece wants to spend time together. i get annoyed just having the cats nearby.

I wake up at 3 am and they managed to get my family photos and toss them everywhere. I had put it where they couldnt climb and someone they climbed on there. I find a hairball at the same time. This will make me sound awful, but i get so angry at times that i just wish i could give them away.

I love and care for the cats, but i get to the point that i dont want to deal with anyone at all. I know i would regret rehoming them, so i wont do it. But sometimes i wish i could have time to myself and not deal with anyone else. Not have anyone asking for me to do things for them.

I went from one house with a screaming child, to another house with a screaming child. I dont get what is with kids today. The 3 year old boy i live with does nothing but scream. Since he often snacks, you usually find him with his mouth full, screaming at the top of his lungs. He screams for everything. If you call his name, he thinks you are upset with him. Starts screaming. If you ask him gently to do anything, like move away from the tv, or to come sit with you to hang out... He screams. You say no, or tell him to wait... He screams. The tone doesnt matter. You can talk to him with the most gentle voice, he screams. He can go on endlessly screaming. I used to be patient with tantrums. Now they drive me up the wall so fast.

I dont remember any of my nieces or nephews being this sensitive. But its obnoxious. I feel my head pounding as he screams and screeches endlessly. He only stops if he is given affection.

Sorry for the negative post. Waking up at 3 am and seeing the mess my cats created got to me. I have an obsessive personality so having the cats in my personal space is starting to get to me. My room has always been cleaning and a place for me to escape to.

I dont know anymore what is causing all this anger i have, I didnt used to be this way. I dont know if its the medications i am on. Im also not sleeping well... Obviously, since i am up at 3:00 am. lol I used to be able to sleep all night.

The only positive news is that i just had a biopsy, For the first time they couldnt find any abnormal cells. Came back completely negative, even the polyps were gone. I am hope they will remove the medication, but i wont know until tuesday.

If it started after you began taking them then they are most likely the cause.

But at least the new place isn't full of fleas, so there's that.

I'm glad the biopsy had good results. I agree with Talien Talien that the medications are probably contributing a lot to your anger.

Not sure what could be going on with all the screaming, because when I taught preschool, most of my students didn't scream at the drop of a hat, but maybe this year with the stress of the pandemic more big feelings are coming out?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you find a better paying job. I think after all the giving and caring you've done, you truly need your own place to relax and take care of yourself. You're such a kind person that I pray karma blesses you soon.

That's wonderful about your biopsy results.
Maybe you can talk to your doctor/healthcare team about the anger and get help for that. I am not a "kid person" myself -- never have been -- and screaming kids would make me very stressed, which would make me angry, so I understand that.
But nothing is the cats' fault. I hope you know that. You are Kitty and Elsa's protector, defender, loved one, and world. Please know that.
Yes, you need to get out of there and on your own ASAP.
