The only thing really special about this photo is that these four baby birds were reared by a VERY determined mama who built her nest in the wreath on my front door last spring! Yes, I have a new wreath. I had to pry the old one off of the door. Birdie poo is a powerful glue, and baby birdies are powerful birdie poo producers!

I'm a bit shocked she managed to hatch and rear them! And don't you know that EVERY kid in the complex wanted to come see the babies! She'd sit on top of the porch and keep watch. I only allowed the kids to come once a day, at a set time.

And I didn't get NEAR a swamp!

Great pics, tabbytom tabbytom . And stunningly beautiful bird. I can't get over how its legs stretch out behind him when flying. Gorgeous.
Thank you. This is a beautiful bird. It comes by once a year.

Yes, all birds in flight will have their legs stretched out behind to reduce drag for more aerodynamics. Just like a plane, immediately after take off, the wheels retract else it's cause drag and burn more fuel.
