Do you think your cat would save your life?

I ask this because my cat, Remy, is *very* protective. If he hears Flora or Maisie in distress he comes running and attacks whoever is distressing them (which is almost always me and most of the time it's an accident on my part while the other times it's trying to get Maisie in a kennel). I haven't been in any danger (God forbid I ever am) but I really believe that if someone was hurting me, Remy would attack the assailant.

Do you think, based on your cat's personality or even past experiences, that they could/would save your life? Has a cat ever saved you before?

I have witnessed a cat protecting a human more than once. A neighbor was attacked when I was young. Her Siamese fought off her attacker and no one doubted he saved her life and possibly her baby. One of my own saw someone yelling near me and she jumped to scratch his face. It wasn’t a matter of life and death but she took it as an attack. He stopped yelling! My BJ always stands between me and anyone who comes near. He alerts me to anyone nearby outside and growls if a neighbor’s son is visiting next door. I don’t know exactly why he focuses on him but I trust his instincts! My cat Mackie probably did save me and the other cats here. We had fumes fill the house as we slept and he pawed, then clawed me to wake me. I was ill and so were the cats. I opened the windows and doors but it really didn’t dawn on me until I recovered a bit that he knew that something was wrong and took action. I don’t know what the outcome would have been if he had not been so persistent. Besides physically saving us, cats save us in other ways too. Unconditional love can be very important.

My Sara, who was First Kitty of Them All, would have attacked someone who tried to hurt me. In the late ‘70s, my boyfriend at the time and I were clowning around. He had me by the shoulders and was going “Grrrrr” while I was saying, “Help, help.” Sara attacked him. We stopped immediately and never did it again. She was distraught. She was also the smartest cat I’ve ever had. As much as I’ve adored all of my cats, I doubt if any of them since Sara would defend me. I don’t think I’d want them to try; they’re so small in comparison to a human.

Absolutely not.
Years ago, I was alone in the house and stupidly used a chair to climb up into an upper cabinet (I'm short). I fell, and was sprawled out on the kitchen floor with my 2 cats looking at me. All I could think of is how they weren't Lassie and certainly not capable of bringing me my cell phone.
I eventually managed to get myself upright, with them still looking at me. Pretty sure it was close to a mealtime and all they cared about was if I was ok enough to feed them. I'm positive neither of them, much as I know they loved me, would have been capable of any type of assistance. Nor is our newer younger one. In fact, she probably wouldn't even notice something was wrong LOL

My cats at home . . . probably not. However, there's an office cat named Emily on one of my properties (I'm a Regional Manager for a large apartment management company), and I think she would.

The manager on that property told me that a resident was being completely unreasonable because she'd been drinking and suddenly got quite loud in the leasing office. She stepped up and got in the manager's face and Emily, who was lying on the manager's desk, became very agitated, stood up and growled AND hissed at the resident.

A friend of mine who breeds Abby,s had her neighbors dogs escape from their yard and come into hers while she was gardening. She had one of her cats "helping "her in the garden and the cat flew at both dogs giving Sue time to get into the house.
These dogs went on a rampage and were shot by the Ranger after attacking horses, alpacas, and people on the bike path along the river.
My previous cat would not let strangers into the house or yard and had to lock him away if tradesmen come to the house. He chased the gas meter man out of the yard and back to his car one day, I have no doubt he would have defended me if attacked.
Blue I think would just yell loudly like he does with everything else.

I'm going to say no when it comes to them having to be "aggressive" towards something or someone, but I really have no idea...Since having these cats, nothing has really happened that would cause them to intervene any situation...involving us humans anyway. They all check each other out if one of them meows "differently" or throws up a hair ball etc...so they are protective of each other.
Chester runs and hides when anyone enters our house so I know he would be zero help if I were attacked by a human. Bynx wants to make friends with everybody...but who knows what would happen if a sketchy person came around. And Lily....although she is our delicate little flower...she can be quite feisty and persistent, so...who knows?
As for if we needed to be alerted...yes, I think our cats would do their best to get our attention. Both Chester and Bynx were relentless one morning, trying to get me out of bed and follow them when they caught a mouse, so I can only assume they would be just as relentless if something were amiss.
And as for if we were hurt or sick....they do keep a close eye on us and stay close and cuddled when we're sick...but I think it's just because we are a warm bed to lay on, that doesn't get up and move around much.
I can picture it now....I'm laying unconscious face down on the floor....and my husband walks in to see three cats laying on my back...
