Hi all! I have a 10 month old cat now but got him from outside my complex two months ago ( and all up to date & fixed of course)

as our pet relationship has grown -he shows so many signs that one day he will be that sweet calm house cat, BUT we aren’t there yet.
He’s very vocal and now knows exactly when I’m getting into him now and will even respond back to me with a upset meow and continue what it is He isn’t allowed to do.
But one of the big things is his love and dedication to straws. And not just regular straws. HARD METAL ONES. You could be grabbing him and have him being lifted up and he is STILL going for the Metal straw. The downside is because it doesn’t bend, makes it 10x easier to spill.

again, he knows when I don’t want him too.
( I’m very patient and it’s not the end of the world I’m very aware. Even the growth to when I found him and where he is now is great!)

Any straw tips? ( he has A LOT to he keep him busy)
Any listening better tips?
thanks!

See if different color plastic straws work. I have a cat who loves metal straws too, but there's something about blue (and only blue) plastic straws that will keep her entertained for hours. Not pink, not white, not green or red...just blue. So I can distract her with a blue straw if I see her going for my metal ones.
You can buy a multi color pack to see if a specific color works and if you find one, go to a party store and they have bags of the same color.

Hmmm... wonder if he's teething? If not, guess straws are just his thing.

It's not something I'd heard of before, so I did a site search and was surprised to see there was an old thread from 2003 on the topic. Here's the link if you want to check it out: Cats and Straws

Any pics of the little "straw assassin" you can share? :camera:

My cat seems to have a thing about shapes. She'll go for a loose straw, pipe cleaner, chopstick, dowel, nail file - it's more about the shape for her.

Agree. Keep some plastic straws to toss to him If he is interested in yours. I would also buy some cat springs for him to bounce and roll.

I am going to try straws......but I have found that if I am cooking and drop something like a fresh green bean (uncooked) on the floor that one of my cats goes crazy batting it around.

I have discovered they need to kill the green bean thoroughly before eating it. At least mine does.

Practice makes perfect! Who came up with that phrase? Doesn't work! You are lucky your cat has something to keep him interested. My cat Maggie was like that at that age. She grew out it eventually. She even made up a game. I put a penny at the bathroom door. She would slide it underneath then try to get it. If not, go on the other
Side and do it again. She was at it for 30 minutes
