We got a new addition to our extended family this week. :redheartpump: My SIL and BIL adopted their foster son. Because of covid we were able to participate via Zoom from a whole different state. This is the second time we've gotten to do that and it's really just...an amazing experience to be a part of. This poor kiddo is the same age as my DS and had spent over half his life in foster care. No more. He's ours forever. :redheartpump: It was the same judge from the last adoption last spring. The whole part with him took 10 minutes; so it was pretty quick. But he seems like a personable guy interacting with the kids. He held up a teddy bear for him that was waiting for him at the courthouse to pick up later too.

He's also very close in age to DS; who is SUPER excited to have a BOY cousin his age. Usually when we visit it's him plus 3 girls. Or more accurately; 3 girls being girly and him by himself unless he wants to participate in a dance routine. (Not his kind of fun... :flail:)
Oh that is wonderful... Such great news to start the morning! I really needed to hear a heartwarming story, especially during this time.. :redheartpump::redheartpump::redheartpump::redheartpump::redheartpump::redheartpump::redheartpump::redheartpump::redheartpump::redheartpump:
Thank You for sharing with us... I am so happy for your nephew and SIL, BIL.

Congrats to your GF!! :clap::clap::clap:
It is so nice of you to have a party! Have to let us know how it goes.....

Late this morning, 11am, is going to be a new experience for me: A Zoom Baby Shower!!
It is supposed to run from 11-1pm. I do not expect it to be that long but, you never know.

We got invitations a few weeks ago, with a link to a baby registry, on line.. Amazon, Target, and a couple fo baby places were on the list of stores to buy from. The couple live in Florida, but he is from Massachusetts. This shower is only for his side of the family; which is small..

The hosts are his mom, in Massachusetts, and his sister, who is in San Diego. It is for everyone in Massachusetts. Should be interesting, to see how it transpires. We had to send baby pictures of us, and a funny story. I guess we are all going to guess who the stories belong to.. They re a close knit family. I came along late, so they do not know anything about my childhood...I do not have a baby picture on hand.. but I do have a picture of me when I was about 3 years old, hugging a cousin (not from this side of the family), sitting in a chair...and a few stories of when I was about the same age... I should be easy to guess...

Have to get all my things done, showered, well before 11 am... and figure out where to set up my laptop....

I get a nice tax federal refund this year  Much better than last year when I had to pay quite a bit, probably because I had 3 weeks of unemployment. I owe the state a small amount but I always do for some reason. Normally I would take the refund and use it for my mortgage but I'm in good shape this year so I'll put the money into my retirement accounts.

I hope the gf's graduation/birthday party, foster adoption and zoom baby shower all turn out well. You know pictures are welcome.

I don't have any exciting news to report but my positive is the sun is shining brightly and next week we are "finally" supposed to warm up into the high 30's and even reach 41 one day. I don't mind cold weather but I could use a little warmth when it's below zero. 😉

No its not quite been a year since we visited DHs family and he hasn’t been with them that long. SIL has sent me pictures occasionally because with foster children you cannot share their pictures on social media or anything for their safety. So hes been cropped out or had his face obscured somehow. Hopefully the boys can meet via video chat soon since I don’t know when we will visit. The girls use kids messenger and video chat. Technology has been so helpful this last year!

Our forecast has all highs above freezing after today. Some lows above freezing too. I’ll celebrate that! :woohoo:

I'm down in Tasmania at the moment, right at the bottom of the world :)
The area is known for it's great wine, and also for it's annual scarecrow competition... the winner is not really what you'd call a scarecrow, but the entries are all pretty obscure these days. The wine reference works though. :)
Every time I drive past I have to smile.

I loved our stops in Tasmania! It was so beautiful. I did underdress when we went to Cradle Mountain. If I could go back and do it again, I wouldn't have worn shorts, because I didn't account for the wind when I dressed, and I would have enjoyed the experience more.

I hope I'll be able to travel again someday.

The shower was so much fun!! It was one hour, 40 minutes.

We did play a few games, some gifts from MIL, (my cousin) were opened, live... that part was boring..

Such an inventive way to have a baby shower.. and to include people from all... It was nice..

I really enjoyed it. I needed something like that to break up my time..

To be honest... I am kind of liking the Zoom stuff.....

Of course, Geoffrey required my attention, during the shower.. He was crying, jumped on the desk, once.. I was afraid he would walk across the keyboard.. so I picked him up.. He jumped out of my arms.. I do not think anyone saw it..

There were 2 other dogs who walked in for an appearance.. both black labs...

After it was over, I went outside to clean the snow off my car and the sides of the car...

Not a bad day... pretty good day.. relaxing...
