Cat litter with least amount of dust?

I use Okocat and Weruva It's a Tea Potty. They both have dust, but it's really more like sawdust particles and it stays in the box. The box is in the bottom of a closet, and I've wiped down the walls many times but never picked up any dust.

Those litters don't clump well, but that makes them easily flushable so I don't mind. Just fair warning if anyone wants to try them.

I buy "dust-free" cat litter from my local store and have found most of them to still have an incredible amount of dust that gets kicked up when my cat uses it. Can anyone suggest any that actually is minimal dust?
Dr Elysy is really good. Been using about 6years. I try others but always go back

I use Tidy cats ‘breeze’ pellets. I will never switch to anything else!
Ive recommended it to a few people, but some cats didn’t like it (their owner wasn’t patient enough)
ive read you can wash the pellets to get another use from them but I feel better with afresh batch.

Plus you can try it and If the cat doesn’t like it you can get your money back.
I have no affiliation with them or any brand.

I have tried every thing mentioned in this thread and I will say this:
  • In recent years dr elseys ultra is full of dust. I wash out a box and refill and the next morning the whole box is covered in dust from the litter. It goes downhill from there. Coats everything ne the box in dust.

  • The Garfield and sustainably yours litter are laughably bad (same company, just rebranded). No odor control, tracks all over, sticks to my cat’s feet (short hair) and has a terrible dust all over the box. I wouldn’t recommend it to my worst enemy. Not sure how or why Jackson Galaxy is recommending it
  • Grass seed: minimal to no dust but also no odor control (for either business), tracks terribly and sticks to my cats fur with static cling. All over their bodies. They didn’t want to use it because this.
  • My old cat used pine pellets for over 20 years, it’s definitely dusty. The pine colored dust gets all over the place. Less dusty than clay. But still very dusty and coats things newr it in a fine dust.
  • Fresh step: have tried all varieties. All dusty. Clean paws is least dusty but tracks just as much as a fine sand litter and the smell from the unscented is horrendous. Lots of dust
  • Worlds best very dusty and imo the worlds worst. One of my cats tried to tip over a box of this. Tracks everywhere, sticks to their paws, smells terrible, if you live in a humid area in summer it stays moist ugh but the clumps stay most year round. So in a multicat cat household constantly digging up wet clumps or stepping on pee
  • Tidycats is still dusty, also it clumps like cement on my cats paws but doesn’t seem to clump well on the urine. Tracks everywhere. The charcoal in the litter turned my white cats paws black
  • Any lightweight litter tracks everywhere and confuses my cats. They end up covered in litter from just digging to cover a pee
  • Dr elseys kitten sensitive paws is even more dusty than the blue bag. Respiratory relief was more dusty than both!
  • Frisco: all bags I was sent were coated in dust and when I poured it out so much dust. Terrible litter
  • Arm and hammer clump and seal and cloud control: clump and seal dusty smelled like an old lady perfume Cloud control less dusty but still dust in the pan after one use and smelled like a rancid bag of jolly ranchers. The smell permeated three levels of my house when the box with it was on the first floor. Three levels!
  • Sanicat unscented was pretty dust free for clay but clumped too fast for my cats. One was constantly having it cemented over his paws after covering his business
  • Yesterday’s news was less dusty but zero odor control and my cats did not like it. Again the color of the pellets turned my cat’s feet black

Forgot to add:
  • Oko cat tried all of the wood offerings and paper. All were dusty and the smaller wood pellets didn’t clump well and made a huge mess
  • Walnut litter in both fine grain and large bits loooooots of dark dust all over my house

I have also found, just recently, that Dr Elsey's has become much finer and turns to dust, immediately... I am also looking for a new litter..

I tried SaniCat from Chewy... no difference than Dr Elseys..

I have a couple of different BoxieCat litters to try..

I am so disappointed with Dr Elseys. I have been using this litter since 2012.. I really do not like the change in it.. I have dust and litter all over the apartment.. ridiculous.. You can see the dust immediately, in the litter box..

I heard they changed clay suppliers. I tried boxie cat but it was dusty and the clumps stayed near the top so other cats stepped on them despite me scooping 500 times a day.

Thanks for the info on Dr Elsey's.. I think I will contact the company and complain.

I do not mind if the clumps stay near the top. I have just one cat; no problem with that. The litter box is in the bathroom.

The dust is what is bothering me.. and the tracking..

I use Dr. Elsey's brand. It's a bit more expensive but it's available on Chewy and the regular version doesn't have much dust at all. They also have a respiratory relief one, although I have found that one to be a bit dustier than their regular.
I have to give Dr. Elsey’s litter a try. We currently use Naturally Fresh, it’s ground shells. It does track some and is slightly dusty, but it’s brown and you can see it very easily so tend to clean it up faster, lol... it doesn’t get out of the bathroom though. I think my new cat has slight respiratory issues so might try that version. Used to use Sweatscoop for a while but one bag had bugs in it and immediately got rid of that. It was very messy anyway.

I tried the other types of litter, early 2012.. The walnut shells left a brown dust in the bathroom,
and gave my white legged kitty, brown legs.. I got rid of that very fast..

I tried the other non-clay version.. Worlds Best. I found it to still track a ton.. The smell was a bit off putting. When I read that many people are finding bugs in the litter, I definitely stopped using it.

I have been using Dr Elsey's. I do not know if I would still recommend it. The granules are smaller, they break down immediately. In fact, there is dust in the box of litter.

I just complained to them about the litter. I am unhappy with it, to the point of look for a new litter..

I’ve tried every single brand of unscented clay litter available to me and all of them are dusty, have clumps that break and track all over. I have no good answer. My cat’s and I have sensitivities to fragrance so highly scented and even lightly scented stuff gives them sneezing and nose problems, me too.

As artiemom artiemom mentioned I think they may have recently changed their formula. I had a bunch stocked up so I haven't purchased any recently. Cat litter can be so frustrating, especially when you have an asthmatic cat. The reason I use the respiratory relief over the regular (even though the regular always appeared to have less dust) is because it's hypoallergenic, doesn't contain plant proteins and they add "essences" to help with respiratory stress. Idk if it actually works though.

I can't believe there were bugs in it! That's disgusting.

Edit: I posted below that they're actually going back to their original formula after complaints.

do you mean the regular blue bag or red bag elseys have plant proteins in them? They told me otherwise. I find the respiratory relief is not hypoallergenic, maybe the additions set off my cats.

None of the other types say they do not have plant protein in them, just respiratory relief. For the example the Cat Attract says it has a blend of herbs in it, which presumably may be the source. It could be something else though.

Good news. I just saw this on their website:

Dr. Elsey is passionate about providing the very best products for your cats. A few months ago, in an effort to keep the dust content as low as possible, we switched to a different clay mixture for Respiratory Relief. The new clay is slightly darker than the clay we were using because it is mined in a different area. The color will not interfere with performance. However, after customer feedback, we have decided to go back to the original mixture. Anything with a date code after 20.11.20 will be the original clay and it will not have a sticker on it that states “new & improved particle size”.

Looks like they're going back to the original.
