You're right, of course. But *OMC*
She’s 7 years old and pre-diabetic. The next time I take a cat in, I want a good decade at least before I have to go through senior care and loss again. She’s a beauty. Someone else will give her a home.

I pray so. And yes, she is. Pre-diabetic doesn't mean she'll become diabetic, of course.

True. But I'm still struggling to take better care of myself.

I took my mattress topper off last night. I figured that was the last thing to try before I decide to order a new mattress. Well, one night is not a large enough sample size. But it may be workable. It is certainly the firmest mattress I've ever slept on. Except for those Select Discomfort over-priced air mattresses. Maybe the design has improved in the 10 years since the last time I slept on one. But in my experience, it was a dial-a-sag air mattress rather than true "give". Anyway, besides temperature issues which is probably unrelated to the bare mattress, I just slept really weird and fitful last night. I kept dreaming of Krista. But not healthy Krista. I kept dreaming of sick Krista; like last few days sick. I'm trying not to make a big deal of the six month mark. Because why should I? Why should I honor the most painful day, the day we parted?

For the first time in, well, I think ever, I don't have President's Day off of work. We have some floating holiday paid days. I could have taken today. But PD isn't one of the included holidays. It's so odd. Not as odd as this one company I worked for where the HR department was two black ladies and we never got MLK Day off. It's not like I know what to do with time off anymore anyway. The weather says stay inside and there's no inside that's safe anymore except my own. The same inside I see all weekend long and many more hours than I have ever have before.

Anyway, tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 (or anyone else), what do you do with anniversaries (or half-iversaries as this one is and as you have one right now too?)

Actually, I have so MANY anniversaries that I do not mark any of them. Any sad memory can come into my consciousness at any given time and make me cry but I try to let that happen and then shift my focus to one or more GOOD memories. Another thing that undoubtedly helps is that I am still "with cat" and determined never to be "without cat" as long as I am compos mentos and able financially, emotionally and physically to care for said cat(s). I know this is not your MO right now but it is the way I cope, by sharing the love and always being able to access cat(s). As for days off, I don't have any. I can't have any. Time on my hands to think too often gets me into bad places emotionally. So I figure I might as well work every day. It benefits others and it definitely benefits me.
I'm so sorry you had unhappy dreams. Those are the most painful. Whether or not it's your mattress that caused and/or exacerbated it, it's not good.

:hearthrob::kneading::hearthrob: about that face! Still :bawling:about the 🐰s, though...
"...and Dad, BTW, what's your laptop doing on my furniture? I am the only laptop you need, FYI..."
That's my iPad aka the Krista baby monitor. Remember this was during her lymphoma days. She wouldn't start chemo until the end of the month. I'm sparing you the poop picture that I also have from this day. I would often pick whichever camera she was on and put that on the iPad to watch her while I worked.

Yes, the comparison between the two pictures is incredible.
But try and be wise. Don't be tempted by similar occasions, it never works, and it is highly unfair for those who left us and those who are suppesed to replace them.
I hope Sassy finds a wonderful forever home, and, in time, you find a new friend, but do not force the events.

Feb 16, 2019:
Her month in the tree continues...

Back at the vet. Butt and gut issues. Not eating. She’ll be back in a couple days to get more tooth fragments removed.

She was a fighter. Literally! Dr notes “extremely fractious.” 😾

The wall started as a deterrent. Back in 2018, she started peeing that wall. I later learned it was a cry for help. Her teeth were going bad. We removed the problem teeth and the problem behavior went away. Mostly. I suspect she continued to pee against that mirror off and on for the rest of her life. Save for once or twice, I don’t think I ever caught her doing it. But it hasn’t been until she’s passed that the mystery butt height streaks on the mirror are gone. I started with the bin storage and added a tree on each side. The design was that, with fish flakes and clicker training, I taught her to do two jumps on the far tree and then travel the length to the kitchen counter. Rather than a single jump to the counter. This was because she was starting to show some arthritis and pancreatitis. During her panc, I would give her a small medicine meal of supplements on the counter before bribing her to eat as much as she would. Since this was several times a day, I wanted her going up there on her own rather than having to lift her up there myself. Or having to do the meds and bribes at her level on the floor. The cardboard Tetris pieces came later in 2019.

It still feels like I’m living in her home. 🤦🏼‍♂️😻

I hope you don't feel that's a bad thing.
From time to time I tell my cats that this is their house, because, even legally, it is. I made sure of that when we moved here. And whether buying/bought or renting, a home is a home because cats are there. Otherwise, it's just a house/apartment.

I like all the different cat trees and furniture. We built a cozy home together. I've always been more than a little jealous of her trees (and her under the bookcase spot.) I do have enough of those Katris pieces that I've been meaning to build a fort one weekend. She would have loved that! She would have loved the new office too. I probably have enough room on the desk for her to sit next to my keyboard instead of in front of it. Not that she would have. She had her filling station and there was no talking her out of it.

I am sadly collecting clutter and getting a little lazy on the stove without my furry foreman to keep me in line.

I'm like that, too, FYI. And no one should make you feel any way but okay with that, IMHO. The lives we live with our loved ones are the best lives of all of them that we live. That's why people have keepsakes and items they pass down generationally. It's why they mean so much to us. It's normal and natural and healthy. IMHO.

Can you explain this better, please?

Well, it is a popular saying that cats make a house a home. This has always been true for my family and for me.
As for legality, in USA at least, you can consult with an attorney who is well versed in animal law and ensure that your estate is passed to your cats. It is entirely legal.
