I unfriended my cousin Kim today on Facebook. She posted that she hit a deer with her car. Then she said "Oh well, at least I got to take it home and gut it."

That just made me sick. She didn't have to word it like that. What would you have done? Would you have unfriended someone after that?

I guess some people have no tact. But she won't understand why you unfriended her if you don't explain your reason. If it were me I would contact her. Maybe that way she would phrase what happened in a different manner. I wouldn't call her out for it, just explain that her comment may offend some people.

I'm not on Facebook, so I can't relate to the "unfriending" thing. But since it was posted publicly, and not directly to you, I don't know if I'd want to risk losing her friendship over it, particularly since she's your cousin. I do know I've shed tears just seeing a dead deer on the side of the road, so I know reading her post would have bothered me, and I can imagine how much it upset you. 🤗

Meh, we're not that close. I just don't really want to be friends with somebody that would talk like that.

Well, it's better than wasting the meat, I'd say. I've hit a deer; it's unfortunately impossible to avoid. I suppose the wording could have been better but I can see how she might be making the best of a bad situation.

Yeah, she should have known that talking about gutting would disturb people. I just don't want to be around that. I keep having this mental image of somebody slitting a deer. ☹

My other cousin Stacie posted about "All you crybaby vegetarians afraid to eat meat. Stop trying to take away my guns!"
I'm like what the heck is wrong with people?

I would not say she was making the best of a bad situation. I have no respect for anyone who can do that to such a sweet animal and be so flippant about it.

What a horrible person. I would like to tell her what she can do with her @&%# guns.
Your cousins remind me of my cousins that post on Facebook. A bunch of rednecks that I have no use for.

I didn't think even vegans had a problem with using the meat of an animal that's already dead. Sorry 🥺.

Yes! That's the exact word I was thinking. What a bunch of rednecks. But I didn't dare say it. I'm tired of excusing bad behavior just because they are family.

I apologize if I offended anyone here but seeing how some people treat animals makes me crazy.
I don't have a problem with using the meat of an animal if it is already dead but it was the attitude of maggiedemi's cousins that made me so mad.
I have two cousins that do dog rescue on Facebook. But there are quite a few that I don't agree with when it comes to politics. I would love to tell them off but my sister and brother would have a fit if I did.

I'm not vegan, but even before I became vegetarian, the thought of deer being a meal upset me, in the same way it would if someone said the same thing about a cat or dog that had been hit by a car and died. The whole "that animal is food, but that one's a pet" is so complicated.

Which brings me to the book I'm currently reading. Esther the Wonder Pig. They thought they were adopting a mini pig, but she turned out to be a "commercial" one who would have become someone's dinner, if she wasn't with them. She inspired them to become vegan, and once she got her own Facebook page, became famous. Here's one cute tweet.

Thanks for the book recommendation. I'm going to check if our library carries it.

It's my cousin's wording. You don't say the word "Gut" and make them have that mental image of a deer getting slit in their mind all day. It's just common sense.

My other cousin Robin posted that it would be funny to serve a vegetarian a real burger and tell them it's "plant based". But it's really "meat packing plant based".

I told her that I would be very upset if somebody did that to me, and I ate it. She thought it was hilarious. 🙄

Now that's definitely bad! That's the kind of psychopath who sneaks someone something they're allergic to just to watch the "fun". Nope.

Yes, that's a direct breach of trust and a huge violation.

I'd be so upset that someone would have such a lack of respect for me, and my wishes.

And I'd bet someone willing to lie and laugh at someone in distress would be unable to confront that it's their behaviour which is at fault, and instead blame the victim for being unable to take a joke, or something similar.:nono:

So I killed a spider in the shower this morning. I knew I was gonna feel bad the rest of the day, and sure enough I did. But he was right above my head and I take long showers, so I knew I would be trapped in there with him the whole time. I doubt he was poisonous, cause this is upstate NY, but they give me the creeps! What would you have done?

I would have left it alone. They don't bother me. All other bugs I put outside. My nephew who is a drill sgt in the army is scared to death of them.

Yeah, I'm scared of them too. I don't think I could stand being in there with it for 20 minutes. And I wouldn't have gotten out and dried myself with the towel until I was clean. So I would have been stuck there with him above my head. I suppose I could have tried to slide him onto something and put him in the sink. It's hard to think on the spot.

I'm scared of spiders too, so my first impulse if I see one in the house, well after shrieking, is to kill them. And then I'm terrified it will somehow jump and get on me. But, especially if it's one of the big basement ones, there's no way I can just leave, knowing it's there. Also in the shower or my bedroom, yeah, I'm sorry to say, spider would be dead. But I would feel guilty, and would probably keep saying "sorry, sorry, sorry", as I carried the paper towel with the hopefully totally dead monster to the garbage. And because I'm extra paranoid, I'd put that paper towel in a plastic bag and tie it so there's no way it could escape. Yes, I have a serious, and probably irrational fear of spiders. :running:

I have to say, I seemed to see more spiders before I adopted Ruby, so I feel that she "takes care of them" for me. In fact, I'm pretty sure she does, as once I walked into my living room and saw strange pieces of something on the floor, which upon examination, I think were 8 creepy legs. :eek2: I felt bad for the poor creature, but thankful Ruby defended me. :lovecat2:
