What, if any, is the remedy if someone copies a post without attributing it to the original poster. I saw a post that was copied word for word from a post I made 4 months ago, not as a quote, but taken as their own.

I myself would see it as a compliment if they take bits and pieces. I have taken pieces and bits from other's conversations because I learned from them and saw them as a way to better communicate. I often say I read this once from someone else, etc. which would probably help. If they wanted to say what you conveyed word for word though, I don't know why they wouldn't say, 'refer to this post in such and such forum on (insert date)'. To take your whole conversation and pass it as their own is not right, but it would only be a crime I think if they gained something from it, like money.

What is most galling is that they took one of my life experiences and presented it as their own. What sort of person does that? On top of that, they posted it on the same thread as the original post. They had to know that I would see and recognize it as mine. It was their first or second post, but I doubt that we will be seeing any more.

There are some spam bots who just copy/paste old posts. I have no idea what the spam bot people gain from it, but just to say it may not have been a person deliberately using your personal story, just a random copy/paste.

..... and I would feel guilty copying one of my own replies word for word when the same thread comes up repeatedly asking about giardia, fleas, ringworm, etc. over and over again ;)

:thanks:I'm pleased the moderators reacted quickly. Thank you mods, you are doing a good job!

OK that's creepy. At first I thought it was advice that they had seen and used but that's just weird.

:yeah:
From the look of their other posts that's what happened. Don't let it worry you N NY cat man The internet is full of spammers, many of whom don't even speak any English, but the Mods are here to sort them out.

:bat:

Just flag any suspicious looking posts and we'll deal with them.
