Got an email from work saying I was authorized to make an appointment for the vaccine because I work in law enforcement.

Update... got to work and found out that they are going to make certain days available for us to get the vaccine.

There are more and more people saying that we should do what Florida is doing, they are making the vaccine available to everyone over 65. Only a fraction of the vaccine that we have has been administered. A lot of it is because of what happened when Ohio tried to get nursing home staff vaccinated and 60% of staff refused so they are giving them another chance when they go back with 2nd shots for people who did get vaccinated. The thinking is get as many people as possible vaccinated to begin slowing this thing down.

A friend of mine, and her brother, who are snow birds.. in Florida right now.. got their vaccines this past Saturday.

According to her, Florida opened it up to anyone over age 65. It is up to the county as to how they are distributing it. In her county, they supposedly did it semi-orderly. You had to call for an appointment. The phone lines were swamped. Some people could not get through for an appointment. She spent all day, Monday and Tuesday, trying to get appointments for her friends...

She lucked out. She was able to get one immediately.. She has luck.. It was given in car, with a 15 minute post vaccine parking/waiting area. That area was monitored with a timer on each car.

She said it was very orderly...
Apparently what you are seeing on the news is in one county: Broward County, where the chaos has been. That is southern Florida, including Miami, etc.....
~~
As I said earlier, My building is having a CVS clinic in here; in a couple of weeks... They will have 3; one clinic every 3 weeks.. It will run on Fridays and Saturdays....
~~~
We had a Covid Test yesterday.. a different one.. not sure if I am liking this one. It was self administered. While I do not mind that; what I do mind is the group aspect of it.
They are group batching the amount of 20, for processing. If there is a positive in the group; all 20 will have to be quarantined and each person have a PCR test, individually.
This is the part I am not in favor of...
But it was explained it is less expensive and faster to it this way, and using less resources...
All I can say is that I am grateful we are getting all this testing. I guess with the building having an Affiliation with Harvard Medical School, does help out. And the city's Board of Health Physician is a MGH doc, does help...
We have had: the deep PCR test, the easier PCR test, the saliva test, and now the group test...
I think we are part of study groups.. which is ok to me..
Just grateful...
A lot of the staff here are refusing to get the vaccine. They don't trust it.
I think they are referring to the long term effect of it... no one knows what and if there are any.. some people have gotten Bell's Palsy from it...
There are long term side effects from some vaccines.. They are cautious because this is a new vaccine, a new way of discovering a vaccine, mRNA, and they just do not know what/if type of damage can occur to your body, over years...
This is a concern of mine; but you have to weigh things out... Covid or other things??? and decide for yourself.....
I had Bell's Palsy a number of years ago and I didn't remember being sick with any kind of virus immediately before. I still have numb places on that side of my face but most people fully recover.
If only that was so easy.. :) if I were to decide for myself, I’d definitely choose COVID over unknown long term vaccine side effects, as I’m low risk and all my immediate family members that went through this virus had minimal to none symptoms. But I will get the vaccine when it’s available for me because I want this pandemic to be over and I don’t want other people to get sick because of me, not because I don’t want to get sick. This is unfortunately how the vaccination benefits work.
I will take my changes with the vaccine. I do not want to die from Covid and I don't want to pass it on to someone if I do get it.
I admit I am a little leery of a vaccine using new technology and developed so recently and quickly but this is the only practical way out of this mess. There is already a variant that has shown up in South Africa that the vaccine may not be as effective against. I feel that there is an urgency to this.
Ugh! They finally put out the schedule that we can sign up for to get the vaccine but the times available are 3 hours after I have left work. I live too far away to stay that late. Driving in late to work to make up for it would put me right in the middle of DC Beltway traffic which is always a nightmare.
I took some of my initial Army training at Ft Belvoir and the Beltway traffic was bad then, that was many years ago. There were all kinds of jokes about people getting old and gray, getting married and having families while still stuck on the Beltway.
Discovered we are getting the Pfizer vaccine.. next week is a preregistration clinic.. do not know why.. but I guess they have to know how many doses to bring in..
Also do not know if they plan on vaccinating the entire building and staff during the first clinic, or prioritize them, as to age and medical conditions.
But, the vaccine will be in the building, in 2 weeks... from CVS...
What I do not get, is why does CVS require our insurance information? Are they somehow getting a profit from this? I thought the government struck a deal with them? I question that; but am just grateful we are getting it, fairly soon, and in an orderly fashion... As long as I do not have to pay anything...
I had to provide my mother's insurance information when filling out the CVS forms as well. Your insurance will be charged for it, but you will not be.
You Won't Have to Pay for a COVID-19 Vaccine During the Pandemic
My mother has been exposed at her Assisted living facility. I should get her test results this weekend. I visited her on Tuesday. It was a short visit and a had an N95 mask on with a cloth mask over it. My risk is low, but I am concerned and will breathe easier when I get her results. She was not exhibiting symptoms as of Thursday afternoon. If she tests negative she will be vaccinated on Tuesday with the rest of her facility.
AbbysMom AbbysMom Thanks for the info...
Keeping fingers crossed for your mom... This is a dangerous situation in any living situation... including apartment buildings..
Yesterday, we were told that one tenant tested positive for Covid, asymptomatic.. It was a routine test before having a procedure... another one who is currently in the hospital has Covid, and one staff member has Covid~ a family member came down with it. The staff member stayed home as a precaution, got tested, with test results positive..
While they are bringing in testing clinics monthly or so, in here, the building director is advising us to get tested on our own, in between... especially if we are active and go out..
We only had 1/2 of our population take advantage of the test, this past week.. so weird. Why wouldn't they? people are strange...
We had the group/batch test.. The one where schools are using it.. Results should be back by Monday..
When I am going into the grocery store, or any store, I am also double masking... and wash down my grocery cart, while wearing gloves..
((hugs))
An acquaintance of the family died yesterday. . .her husband died just a few days ago, they haven't even had his funeral yet. COVID was the final straw but both had major health issues so it wasn't a surprise. What is maybe a bit surprising is that they both tested positive 3 weeks ago (I think. Not sure of the exact timeline), but she also tested positive yesterday when she was brought to the ER before she died. This isn't the first time I've heard of someone having 2 positive tests several weeks apart, I really wonder what's going on there.
And my mom's friend's mother, who is in a nursing home, just had a stroke. Every resident in her home just got vaccinated in the last week. I hope that strokes aren't a side effect of the vaccine, and I hope nobody blames the vaccine without proof. She's had strokes before so I'm not sure there's any way to know. I haven't heard any updates, not sure how bad it is. But wow, not a good week around here.
I do ambulance billing which is almost always out of network. For COVID most EMS units are taking the network payment as full payment. They are still billing for in network deductibles and copays. There is also an uninsured fund so people with no insurance do not get billed for ambulance. It is handled like Medicaid, whatever they pay is full payment.
As far as I understand it (in the US), insurance should cover your COVID vaccine, and the government will cover it somehow if you don't have insurance.
This vaccine technology has been worked on for a long time, it just hadn't been used yet. I was most worried that the vaccine wouldn't be as effective as we'd like, but the data has been fantastic. I'm very optimistic about both mRNA vaccines. I'm not worried about any potential long term health effects, because it's still based on the same principles of older vaccines that we've researched extensively and know a lot about.
Meanwhile, new information is coming out all the time on the long-term effects on COVID survivors, even in people that were young or had no other health complications beforehand. Heart conditions are a big one. Another is a decline in brain function. I don't want to have to deal with any of that.
Great news I read recently is that of 16 variants that we've discovered (including the highly transmissible UK one), the Pfizer vaccine is effective against all of them. But that doesn't mean it will be effective against the 17th, so stopping the spread is still just as important as ever.
Well, Medina County cases have risen to over 10,500. Last Monday we hit 9,987. Deaths have risen as well.
A woman who had the one of the vaccines, not sure which one, had a very bad reaction and was told not
to receive second dose. Docs said it was her allergy to Sulfa that caused it and I am also allergic to it as
well so is Nicole. I'm going to research it. In this article it points out Sulfa allergy has be a reason not to have it.
Thanks, Mia for the info. I did look at the link. It is pretty informative; but not complete.
As for example: I have allergies, I have never been stung by a bee or wasp.. I do get welts with mosquito bites. So, I do not know if I am allergic to bee stings..
I get a rash and symptoms from all vaccines.... ugh
I am going to ask to stay for 30 minutes after the vaccination, I will also take a Benadryl when I get home, just in case, and have my asthma inhaler at the ready.. Just in case...
((hugs))
Oh, the group batch test I was in, came out negative. I think everyone was negative, since we did not have an announcement of any new cases. Due to state law, they have to notify us of any in the building..
Very poor showing for this test---only 125 people out of 250.. sad...
