That's a great video. It's completely normal catly behavior.

So, I went back through earlier posts in your thread.

This is a quote from a little more than a year ago :), just for reference.
Maybe I was just so used to them not chasing eachother in this capacity that I went blind for who it looks when it's bad.
I was just taken aback by Cosmo growling and hissing at Monty.

You're overthinking this, I believe. When you hear Monty start, then you utilize the clicker to shift his mindset. Or, walk over and pick up Cosmo and love on Cosmo. If Monty still looks interested, walk away with Cosmo. Other times, pick up Monty and love on him so he doesn't get jealous, but Cosmo is the one who will benefit most from extra loving.

Otherwise, just let them have at it, although I totally agree that hours worth of it from Monty is excessive and too much. Maybe find ways to shift stuff around so Cosmo can retreat to that office room you talked about in earlier posts.
Yeah, I probably am overthinking it xD And thanks for the advice! I'll start working more with the clicker.
Cosmo could retreat, we have a wonderful cat tree i the office and a huge pillow and if he would like to remove him self entirely he could jump on the closet where Monty can't get.

Anyway, if you aren't weighing them, definitely start doing that every couple weeks and keep a log.
I weight them irreuularly before, but since testing free feeding I want to weigh them every two weeks or so.
And I try my best to play with them at two times a day.

C calicosrspecial I didn't forget your post :) I'll read it and answer when I'm home from work

" C calicosrspecial I didn't forget your post :) I'll read it and answer when I'm home from work " - Don't worry. Have a good time at work and drive safely. Nothing urgent.

"Mornings are not the worst, because he usually wakes me up when my alarm is about to ring and pressures me into getting up and feeding them, what I do anyway." - That is really good. Very interesting that he is better in the mornings. There is a reason. He might be a little sleepy still?
Yeah I think so! I always make sure to give them kibble right before going to bed. So they let me sleep till 6:30 atleast xD

If they love it so much I'll just leave them be. They can't just do it all day I think.
Of course I would intervene when it seems to get out of hand.
Atleast I don't have to worry about Monty wanting to get something out of chasing Cosmo (other than fun of course)

"Yeah I think so! I always make sure to give them kibble right before going to bed. So they let me sleep till 6:30 atleast xD " - Agreed

"If they love it so much I'll just leave them be." - I do think Monty likes it more than Cosmo. I would try to intervene if possible. There are other ways they can have fun.

"They can't just do it all day I think." - Agreed. But they don't, correct? It is pretty much before eating and then once in a while during the day.

"Of course I would intervene when it seems to get out of hand." - Yes. But I would try to break them of the habit a bit. It is a challenge. I know, every time my ferals do it I do intervene. Even though they enjoy it as well (and again one enjoys it more than the other one).

Just keep watching how they act after to determine if there is any negative repercussions. That is really what tells us what is really going on. I don't want Cosmo to lose confidence and then start getting negative.

"Atleast I don't have to worry about Monty wanting to get something out of chasing Cosmo (other than fun of course)" - Yes, I think it is all about the fun of it all. I do get a sense he probably gets excited about eating and then channels that excitement into playing with Cosmo. Oftentimes, we see that energy get channeled into the other animal. A "redirection" of some kind. Some cats redirect in a negative way (aggression) due to some territorial issue while others (Monty and my ferals) seem to redirect the energy into play out of excitement. If that makes sense.

Sorry for my late reply, the last couple days were a bit rough.
Two days ago, when I was getting ready for Work Cosmo peed next to the apartment door. He's done that before, but it hasn't happened in a while.
They were fed, both ate normally, he wasn't being chased. He did not meow for access anywhere, he was also able to get into the bathroom where I was, which is something that is important to him.
So I didn't hear or see anything from him except for when he started scratching when he was done peeing.
I thought maybe the litter box wasn't clean enough, but later my bf told me he used the litter box twice after that.
Around 3 or 4 month ago we got terrible new neighbours. The kids are screaming and running around the flat all the time. (they live under us) and they were playing loud music in the beginning on a keyboard, we complained to our landlord about it and it got better.
The thing is Cosmo didn't even care. No peeing nothing. And it wasn't even loud that morning or the day before.

Today at like 6 am they thought it was okay to vacuum their flat, I wouldn't have to get up till 8 or so. So I stayed up late and hoped the cats would let me sleep.
Well after that Monty was chasing cosmo like crazy and I had to get up and feed them.
Just for Cosmo to look at his food and leave immediately. No sniff nothing.
I thought okay let's make it warm with some water, he usually likes that. Nope. Went away again.
At 8 my bf tried it again because cosmo was complaining and ripping pieces from a cardboard box (which he usually does when he's hungry)
And he went away again.
He ate this food yesterday and for a couple of weeks.
So frustrating.

No need to ever apologize.

"Two days ago, when I was getting ready for Work Cosmo peed next to the apartment door. He's done that before, but it hasn't happened in a while." - Is it a door to the outside or to an interior hallway where other tenants are walking? Were there any animals

"They were fed, both ate normally, he wasn't being chased. He did not meow for access anywhere, he was also able to get into the bathroom where I was, which is something that is important to him." - That suggests to me that maybe another animal/pet was by that door and he felt territorially insecure.

"So I didn't hear or see anything from him except for when he started scratching when he was done peeing." - Sounds like he didn't want to go. So something was going on. :/ I just wonder if someone either had another animal or the scent of another animal on them.

"I thought maybe the litter box wasn't clean enough, but later my bf told me he used the litter box twice after that." - Yeah, probably not that.

"Around 3 or 4 month ago we got terrible new neighbours. The kids are screaming and running around the flat all the time. (they live under us) and they were playing loud music in the beginning on a keyboard, we complained to our landlord about it and it got better." - Ahhhhhhh, that could be it. It can literally be something like that that maybe is acceptable for a while but then something else. I wonder if the kids were in your hallway? BUT I still wonder about another pet/animal.

"The thing is Cosmo didn't even care. No peeing nothing. And it wasn't even loud that morning or the day before." - It can be a scent, or a sudden noise (short). It doesn;t always have to be loud, it can just be a disconcerting noise or running, or somthing jsut out of the ordinary.

"Today at like 6 am they thought it was okay to vacuum their flat" - :( Yep, sadly that happens.

"I wouldn't have to get up till 8 or so. So I stayed up late and hoped the cats would let me sleep." - Ughhhhhhhh. I always hated that, happens more than we want.

I wonder if Cosmo felt your stress? Cats take on our emotions so the more stressed we become (and being annoyed by neighbors will do that) the more the cats can be stressed and they can start doing things (peeing).

"Well after that Monty was chasing cosmo like crazy and I had to get up and feed them." - :(

"Just for Cosmo to look at his food and leave immediately. No sniff nothing." - Hmmmmmmm, that is strange. Was Cosmo acting differently?

"I thought okay let's make it warm with some water, he usually likes that. Nope. Went away again." - Was it too early do you think? Did you free fed him that night before?

"At 8 my bf tried it again because cosmo was complaining and ripping pieces from a cardboard box (which he usually does when he's hungry) And he went away again." - Hmmmmmm. Was you and your bf feeling a lot of stress?

"He ate this food yesterday and for a couple of weeks. So frustrating." - I know. It happens. Cats will have days like that. Sometimes their tummies don't feel well, sometimes they just didn't burn off enough energy. sometimes they are stressed. Like right now I am having trouble with coyotes and my ferals and I am really stressed and my indoor cats are really feeling it. I am trying to control it but I am crying because of the coyotes and so much anxiety and fear and my inside cats are picking up on it and they are "off".

If you can get a video of him I would like to see his body language. Do you notice body language changes in Cosmo?

It is only one day/one meal so I wouldn't worry too much and I just wonder if it is tied to the peeing by the door so it is the "perfect storm" and all tied to one thing (I really think someone had a pet/animal in the hallway).

Hang in there. Just try not to get to stressed. We will fix it.

It's an interior hallway. Only our neighbors who have their apartment right across from ours walk there, they have been living there for a while. It's impossible that animals where in there.

"They were fed, both ate normally, he wasn't being chased. He did not meow for access anywhere, he was also able to get into the bathroom where I was, which is something that is important to him." - That suggests to me that maybe another animal/pet was by that door and he felt territorially insecure.
No one in the hous has pets and the door which leads outside is self closing and locked over night.

"So I didn't hear or see anything from him except for when he started scratching when he was done peeing." - Sounds like he didn't want to go. So something was going on. :/ I just wonder if someone either had another animal or the scent of another animal on them.
Since I work at the vets office I always come home smelling like other animals.

"Around 3 or 4 month ago we got terrible new neighbours. The kids are screaming and running around the flat all the time. It can literally be something like that that maybe is acceptable for a while but then something else. I wonder if the kids were in your hallway? BUT I still wonder about another pet/animal.
He didn't show any signs of him being bothered by the neighbors before and as I said, it has been 80% better now. It was quite in the hallway and they weren't awake at that time. So no noises in the hallway and no noises in the flat beneath us.

I wonder if Cosmo felt your stress? Cats take on our emotions so the more stressed we become (and being annoyed by neighbors will do that) the more the cats can be stressed and they can start doing things (peeing).
That's also something what I thought could trigger him, but it's not that this time. We have been feeling more relaxed for like a month. That's when the neighbors stopped being extremly loud. He also didn't pee the day I rushed upstairs furious and slamming the door because I got into a unpleasent argument with the neighbor, that's been a month ago.
My bf and I aren't fighting much anymore, that was one trigger when we first got Cosmo.

I solved this mystery by now! He threw up around lunch time after eating his kibble, so I brought home a diet from the vet, it always helps when his stomach is upset. He ate that normally and didn't throw up after that. (Everything is in agreement with my vet btw)

Like right now I am having trouble with coyotes and my ferals and I am really stressed and my indoor cats are really feeling it. I am trying to control it but I am crying because of the coyotes and so much anxiety and fear and my inside cats are picking up on it and they are "off".
Oh, I hope you'll not have much trouble with those damn coyotes in the future. All love and good vibes to you and your kittys!

If you can get a video of him I would like to see his body language. Do you notice body language changes in Cosmo?
Not really, just yesterday he was laying next to me on bfs chair in his full length tummy facing up, letting me pet his belly ( Such an honor! I'll post some pictures in the next post!)
He's always been a very very vocal cat, the past few days a little more I think, but I can't pinpoint it to anything specific

Oh! And I caught them secretly "cuddling" more just touching paws! But I'm always so so happy when I see it! In hopes they become cuddle buddys one day!

MY GOODNESS they are ADORABLE!!!!

"Oh! And I caught them secretly "cuddling" more just touching paws! But I'm always so so happy when I see it! In hopes they become cuddle buddys one day! " - I think they already are!!! THAT PIC IS SO CUTE!!!!

Thanks for the pics! I honestly can't get enough of them. Charisma and photogenic are understatements!!!

"It's an interior hallway. Only our neighbors who have their apartment right across from ours walk there, they have been living there for a while. It's impossible that animals where in there." - Could there have been a visitor with a pet or two? By the door makes me think it was something in that hallway or at least to the outside.

"No one in the hous has pets and the door which leads outside is self closing and locked over night." - Hmmmmm, no visitors at all?

"Since I work at the vets office I always come home smelling like other animals." - Yes. Did you work with any intact or recently neutered animals the day before?

"He didn't show any signs of him being bothered by the neighbors before and as I said, it has been 80% better now. It was quite in the hallway and they weren't awake at that time. So no noises in the hallway and no noises in the flat beneath us." - Hmmmmm, nothing obvious.

It could be the recent change in routine as that can cause stress also?

"I solved this mystery by now! He threw up around lunch time after eating his kibble, so I brought home a diet from the vet, it always helps when his stomach is upset. He ate that normally and didn't throw up after that. (Everything is in agreement with my vet btw) " - Great!!! Not feeling well could also cause the pee incident. Not feeling well can be a stress event. I wonder if that was it?

"Oh, I hope you'll not have much trouble with those damn coyotes in the future. All love and good vibes to you and your kittys! " - Thank you but sadly I will. :/ I am just at a loss as to how to drive them away. :(

I just wonder if that was the cause of the pee incident. Seems really close together.

Keep us up on how it goes. It isn't obvious but I just wonder if that is it.

Not to my knowledge at least.

Yes. Did you work with any intact or recently neutered animals the day before?
Almost every week. We neutere cats on a regular basis, it hasn't been a problem for Cosmo before. Usually I wash my work clothes right when I bring them home, but even the one time when it was laying around he didn't pee anywhere.

Great!!! Not feeling well could also cause the pee incident. Not feeling well can be a stress event. I wonder if that was it?
I guess it could have been that, or at least I hope so.

It's hard to know what he wants to tell us when he meows. When we go to bed he walks down the hallway and makes this low long streched meows, but we learned that this doesn't seem to be a sign before he pees or anything. He does it and then goes to bed.
He also meows when he has to go use the litterbox, then he uses it normally and goes zooming around the place afterwards, but this has always been his go to behaviour. He almost never covers his poop or pee.
We think all his strange behaviour could be linked to where he lived before. He had a very small cat tree, he barely fit into and the litterbox was quite filthy. All in all we think he didn't have the greatest home (maybe he was beaten there? I don't know he's always afraid when he throws up like he would get punished for it.).

But on the bright side! We didn't have another peeing incident so far!

Monty will still chase Cosmo when he expects to be fed, but it could be worse.
And the last few days they have been cuddling?! Like really sleeping together, which is totally new. They would be laying near each other barely touching, sure, but cuddling and grooming AND then sleeping together is a new thing:lovecat3:

"Not to my knowledge at least." - Ok

"Almost every week. We neutere cats on a regular basis, it hasn't been a problem for Cosmo before. Usually I wash my work clothes right when I bring them home, but even the one time when it was laying around he didn't pee anywhere." - Yes, you are doing everything correct. I keep trying to think of anything that might cause territorial insecurity.

"I guess it could have been that, or at least I hope so." - Keep an eye out for any link between not feeling well and peeing. Not feeling well can cause stress and of course stress can cause inappropriate peeing.

"It's hard to know what he wants to tell us when he meows." - It is so hard. :( Looking at the body language and any behavior changes can help a lot. Sometimes it is just wanting attention, or being hungry, or anxiety, or pent up energy. It could be discomfort or pain (cats are pretty tolerant of pain which makes things even more difficult). It is so hard to know but I tend to reassure, give some love, etc and see if it helps.

" When we go to bed he walks down the hallway and makes this low long streched meows, but we learned that this doesn't seem to be a sign before he pees or anything. He does it and then goes to bed." - Yes, that is pretty common. I think sometimes they are calling for you or the other cat, attention, love, etc.

"He also meows when he has to go use the litterbox" - Yes. some will.

" then he uses it normally" - And I think that is important If there aren't signs of difficulty or straining etc and it looks "normal" then it probably doesn't mean much.

" and goes zooming around the place afterwards" - Yes, many do.

" but this has always been his go to behaviour." - Yes, it is very common BUT could be a sign of an issue. Again, important to look for other issues in body language or behavior.

" He almost never covers his poop or pee." - Some do and sometimes it is a territorial thing. Sometimes it is because of a bad association with the liter box. It could be been pain or discomfort in the past. In isolation, I don't worry about it but together with other issues it could be a sign of trouble.

"We think all his strange behaviour could be linked to where he lived before." - I am not so sure it is so strange necessarily. Cats (healthy, normal, etc) will do those things but combined with other signs could be a sign of issues.

"He had a very small cat tree, he barely fit into and the litterbox was quite filthy." - Yes. :( A past like that can cause issues but with love and confidence building it can be overcome.

" All in all we think he didn't have the greatest home (maybe he was beaten there? I don't know he's always afraid when he throws up like he would get punished for it.)." - Yes, sadly. I know. Some cats are yelled at, punished, etc in other households and that creates a stress and more bad behavior. :( But all you can do is build his confidence and let him know he has a great, loving home now.

Keep an eye on whether he throws up and then shortly thereafter (a day or so) he has a peeing incident. It could be that he does something he knows isn't good but stresses over the fear of a reaction and therefore he has to try to relieve the stress.

Does he overgroom at all?

He has always been more sensitive so that very well could be the issue. That it isn't territorial but stress based on his past experience.

I am just so glad he is in your home having a great life.

"But on the bright side! We didn't have another peeing incident so far!" - AWESOME!!! Just stay very observant and keep building his confidence and helping him.

"Monty will still chase Cosmo when he expects to be fed, but it could be worse." - Yes, that is his thing. :/

"And the last few days they have been cuddling?! Like really sleeping together, which is totally new. They would be laying near each other barely touching, sure, but cuddling and grooming AND then sleeping together is a new thing:lovecat3: " - Awwwwww. I LOVE to hear that!!! I know they love each other but seeing it expressed this way is so confirming. :itslove:

Does he overgroom at all?
I'm glad he doesn't overgroom at all!

He's just the kind of cat to headbutt everything 24/7 which is really cute!

I'll keep an eye on him and will report again if anything changes!

"I'm glad he doesn't overgroom at all!" - Great!!!

"He's just the kind of cat to headbutt everything 24/7 which is really cute!" - Awwwww, he loves. Some of the headbutting "things" is a desire to get their scent on things and to own them.

"I'll keep an eye on him and will report again if anything changes!" - Great. Thank you for all the work you are putting in.

So I'm just at a loss for works again.
Yesterday morning Monty woke us up at 5 in the morning wanting to be fed, chasing Cosmo. (I think maybe Cosmo ate more Kibble then Monty and that's why he was hungry that early)
So I tried ignoring it the best I could. I couldn't have fed them that early and there was nothing to get Monty to stop other than feeding them. My boyfriend snapped after a while and jumped out of the bed furious and stumpled over something laying on the floor which made everything even louder. I expected peeing from cosmo, but it didn't came. I fed them and they were fine.
Fast forward to this morning. I had an eye on Monty getting enough Kibble, so we were able to sleep till 7. I got up and fed them before any chasing could happen.
Low and behold Cosmo was not here for us having a calm morning. After feeding, it was fine at first. Then he started walking around the hallway again meowing and scratching at the office door.
And then he peed where he often pees, right next to the front door and me being an idiot had just left my newly bought wrapping paper rolls there leaning against the wall.
Great.
I also found out that he peed on a pile of clothes my bf left on the floor. I can't tell when it happened there, maybe yesterday? I really don't know
And I'm so devastated because he didn't pee for so long and now it's all over again

When's the last time cosmo was in to the vet?
Additionally, for the life of me, why do you just let monty chase him? You've gotten loads of suggestions that you don't want to do including simply picking monty up, and now you have a stressed out cosmo who, if he hasn't been to a vet recently really needs to go because he could get, or already have crystals or uti from the stress of being chased all the time. I'm not kidding or joking about this. You need to figure out a way to stop the chasing because it's affecting Cosmo's health.

:( I am so sorry.

"Yesterday morning Monty woke us up at 5 in the morning wanting to be fed, chasing Cosmo. (I think maybe Cosmo ate more Kibble then Monty and that's why he was hungry that early)" - Makes sense. Some cats tend to like to eat at night, at dawn and given the fact Cosmo might have eaten the food and therefore Monty was hungry that is common. Mine are usually bothering me around 4am. :/

"So I tried ignoring it the best I could. I couldn't have fed them that early and there was nothing to get Monty to stop other than feeding them."- Yeah, they can be very persistent sadly. :(

"My boyfriend snapped after a while and jumped out of the bed furious and stumpled over something laying on the floor which made everything even louder." - Yes, it is hard and stressful when we are tired, need sleep, etc.

" I expected peeing from cosmo, but it didn't came." - Yes, given he is very sensitive it would not have been surprising if he would have. Really good he didn't.

" I fed them and they were fine." - That is great. Yep, it was that they were hungry.

"Fast forward to this morning. I had an eye on Monty getting enough Kibble, so we were able to sleep till 7. I got up and fed them before any chasing could happen." - Great.

"Low and behold Cosmo was not here for us having a calm morning." - How long after he ate was he missing?

" After feeding, it was fine at first. Then he started walking around the hallway again meowing and scratching at the office door." - Was the office door closed? I can't remember, is that were the cockroaches are? Is there a litter box in there? IF the door was clsoed that might be way he was acting that way but let's see if it was closed.

"And then he peed where he often pees, right next to the front door" - :( There again. I just wonder why there. Are you cleaning it with an enzymatic cleaner? Do you have a black light to to see if there is any residual inside and even anything outside?

"and me being an idiot had just left my newly bought wrapping paper rolls there leaning against the wall. Great." _ Please do not be so hard on yourself. How would you know? Life is busy. Everyone makes mistakes (if that is even a mistake really) and no one is perfect.

"I also found out that he peed on a pile of clothes my bf left on the floor. I can't tell when it happened there, maybe yesterday? I really don't know" - Was it just his clothes or was it your and his?

"And I'm so devastated because he didn't pee for so long and now it's all over again" - I know, I am sorry. Something is triggering it. It could be general household stress. Our household is super stressed right now as most households are. And even when we don't get upset verbally etc just the inner stress can be felt by cats. And it can just escalate. I still just wonder about what is in the hallway.

And then about the office door. Cats are territorial so anytime territory is not available it can cause stress and stress can cause inappropriate peeing.

I will say, I am highly confident it is not Monty causing it. I am not 100% but I think like 99.9999%.

We will solve this. I KNOW how frustrating and difficult it is. But let's just keep trying to figure it out. It may be as simple as the door to the office (I am hoping).

Yeah, that's where the roaches are, but he hasn't been very interessted in them lately. There is now litterbox inside the office.
The door is always closed when we are not inside so it was closed that morning aswell, like always. Usually I get up, fed the cats at 6:30, get ready in the bathroom and leave by 7:30. My bf usually gets up after that, so the office is not avaiable to them for a longer time and it has been fine for a long time now.

I clean it with enzymatic cleaner every time. I don't know if there could be something left in the cracks of the floor. I will have to get my flashlight out.

"I also found out that he peed on a pile of clothes my bf left on the floor. I can't tell when it happened there, maybe yesterday? I really don't know" - Was it just his clothes or was it your and his?
It was just his clothes. I put mine up on a stool or put them away. He just pees on stuff when its on the floor, so I don't want to give hik a place to pee.

And then about the office door. Cats are territorial so anytime territory is not available it can cause stress and stress can cause inappropriate peeing.
I think it would be odd, since he has been good about the office being closed for quite a while now. I think we have to give him more confidence around the office door and a bit into the office through play.

I will say, I am highly confident it is not Monty causing it. I am not 100% but I think like 99.9999%.
Yeah, I think so too. If Monty's chasing was such a problem for hi he would have peed far more often.

I spoke with my vet and I'll give him CBD now and see if it helps him. Maybe it helps with stress or anxiety he seems to be having

Cosmo has been to the vet around 6 month ago, because of the peeing and everthing has been fine with him.
I work at the vets office and I've been talking with my boss regarding Cosmo.

We will pick Monty up whe he chases Cosmo. We play with him. We try many different things every day. Some days it's better some days it's worse.
Just yesterday I've kept Monty on my lap for 10 minutes after he chased Cosmo just to keep him still.
The only thing that really stops Monty from chasing Cosmo is when he's fed and I can't just feed him everytime he chases Cosmo.

I can't just magically make this problem disappear, I wish I could. I tried feeding at different time. Different locations. Seperating them for feeding. All that didn't make the chasing between feedings not stop.

"Yeah, that's where the roaches are, but he hasn't been very interessted in them lately." - Were they loud that day or louder than normal?

" There is now litterbox inside the office." - Great. Does he use it often?

"The door is always closed when we are not inside so it was closed that morning aswell, like always." - Hmmmmm. that isn't a change then but I wonder if he wants to get in there and can't (which probably isn't every day) it causes him stress?

"Usually I get up, fed the cats at 6:30, get ready in the bathroom and leave by 7:30. My bf usually gets up after that, so the office is not avaiable to them for a longer time and it has been fine for a long time now." - Yes. :/

"I clean it with enzymatic cleaner every time. I don't know if there could be something left in the cracks of the floor. I will have to get my flashlight out." - You are doing it correctly.

"It was just his clothes." - Ok. Does your bf and Cosmo get along well? It always seemed like they did.

" I put mine up on a stool or put them away. He just pees on stuff when its on the floor, so I don't want to give hik a place to pee." Yes, clothes can be very similar to litter. Does he have any paw issues? Any potential pain issues or any straining while going at times?

"I think it would be odd, since he has been good about the office being closed for quite a while now."- Yes, agreed. :/

" I think we have to give him more confidence around the office door and a bit into the office through play." - Good idea.

"Yeah, I think so too. If Monty's chasing was such a problem for hi he would have peed far more often." - Agreed

"I spoke with my vet and I'll give him CBD now and see if it helps him. Maybe it helps with stress or anxiety he seems to be having " - Worth a try. There is something but it just isn't obvious. :/

"I can't just magically make this problem disappear, I wish I could." - I know but please don't be hard on yourself. You are doing everything you can and everything right. We will solve it.
