Licking their lips and food is one way. Vets have injections or pills they can give cats when they are nauseous.
He is licking his lips and hovering over food but not eating
Gave him pepcid last night & vet gave us entyce
But the vet basically said if that doesnt work there is nothing he can do
....😭

Has he given him any mirtazapine? I have found that to be more reliable than entyce.
Yep he has been on mirtazepine and it hasnt helped
Last nights dose of entyce made him eat two cans of wet food but just gave him tonights dose ... so far just a few licks

his stool is super soft and watery at times, is this bc of the inconsistent diet ?

I would think just the opposite, that he was dehydrated from not eating and that his stools would be hard and dry. I am glad that he ate two cans last night.

Yeah, but hes been having a lot of tuna and fishy treats just to entice him and usually fish makes his poops runny
I m worried he may actually have diarrhea though

Sorry to hear about your beautiful boy! I agree that he could be displaying signs of nausea and Cerenia could help.

The slightly elevated Amylase on the bloodwork is also probably renal related as the kidneys clear amylase from blood.

Have you tried adding a litterbox to the spot he is peeing outside the box at? Also, I have found Rocco & Roxie Professional Strength Stain and Odor Eliminator to be the best enzyme cleaner. I saturate the area with product and water then use a shop vac to remove and repeat. This method saved my mother’s brand new carpet from her 17 year old cat who forgot the location of the cat pan.

I have used Rocco & Roxie Stain and odor eliminator and I have to agree that it is one of the best out there. It is way better than Nature's Miracle, which I personally think smells worse than cat urine.

I would ask the vet for Cerenia or Zofran for the nausea if it’s not contraindicated with his condition. My baby takes 1/2 or 1/4 tablet Cerenia which he tolerates pretty well. I give an hour before feeding. I try to hide in a little wet food or baby food. Praying for you and your baby.

Thanks
I spoke to his cardiologist
He was breathing pretty badly last night, I was terrified he was going
Sent the videos to his cardiologist & spoke with her
She said his xrays showed heart failure a week ago, and its likely worse now
Since he has severe HCM there is not much left to do but make him comfortable
She told me try upping his lasix dose but in reality there is not much time left for him & to reach out to at home euthanasia vets
I insisted I cant bring him into a hospital since he completely lost it last time and I dont want that to be his final moments
I am beyond devastated
I have never euthanized a pet, I have no idea what to think.
I just cannot stop bawling.
Hes been lethargic all day and night , walking a bit, missing the box when peeing and he ate some thanksgiving turkey. I gave him extra lasix & now hes sleeping on his favorite chair.
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

I am so sorry. I can not believe that nothing can be done for a cat who is only three years old. How in the world does a cat that young get heart failure?

If you have confidence in your vet then keep doing what you can to keep kitty comfortable. You could try sending the records for another opinion. Your vet should not mind that. They should understand that you want to explore any avenue. I , unfortunately have had to euthanize some very sick kitties. First a drug is given just to relax them and make them comfortable. Then a second one is given. I always hold them and the last one I had to do seemed very relieved, was purring and more content than he had been in awhile. He actually seemed happy again. No more pain, no more suffering. All he knew was that I was loving him. IF it comes to that, please know that you are doing the hardest but most loving thing you can do. Explore all hopes first and make sure you understand the circumstances well. If you do that, then you are the most loving , caring and giving kind of human that exists. If you have any doubts that there may be another option, keep asking. Ask more than one. I know what they are saying about the heart but do keep trying foods and inquire about other nausea medicines. If the stool gets too loose, you can hydrate, if needed by giving fluids at home. Cats are amazingly tough. Sometimes they do rebound so don’t give up unless it is time to give him his freedom. You have love, hopes, prayers and all the healing purrs anyone here can send. Healing happens while we sleep. If he is resting, that’s good.:grouphug2: Maybe try sleeping beside him to give him comfort.

Unfortunately for him its genetic
He is a ragamuffin and undoubtedly had the gene for HCM even though his breeder swears his parents were tested and negative
I learned from the vet that those tests are only for some of the genes that cause HCM and not all have tests... so my poor Louie was extra unlucky to have it.
He was originally diagnosed in April 2019, and I have always always pushed for the best treatment available.... if they did heart transplants for cats I would be on it without a doubt. Heck, he even has emergency transport oxygen I got this week for him. They constantly told me with the severity of his HCM its a miracle hes still with us.....
Average life span for cats who have had an episode of failure due to HCM is a year..

He spent most of the day laying down, sometimes rapid breathing, sometimes controlled, but he seems withdrawn at times.
Hes eating tiny bits here and there.
I am an absolute WRECK.
The plan is to increase dosage for a few days and see if the breathing gets better... but the bottom line from 2 different cardiologists was that his heart failure is uncontrollable at this point.
I have no idea what to even think or say, I love him so much :(

I am so sorry. If I were him, I would want you. I know he does and has you. You are the best thing that ever happened for him. For any living creature the best thing life can ever give us is the kind of love you are giving him. All my hopes are with you both. It is a gift for him that you are his human. None could be better.

Ugh this is just a terrible time.
He has hours of lethargy , difficulty breathing, looking down
And then sudden bursts of wanting to play, eating, roaming the house, watching outside
His Dr gave me an rx for hydrochlorothiazide and spironolactone— so second diuretic in addition to his lasix. Gave him his first dose today.
When he is laying down looking rough , I feel like euthanasia is the humane thing and he is suffering
When he perks up and does his normal routine I feel sooo confused and so happy 😔😔😔😔😔
The overall prognosis for him is grim in reality, I dont know what to do 😔😔😔😔

I would really consider this deeply. He most likely does not have much longer, so I would really weigh the pros and cons because you don't want him to suffer. Basically what I'm saying is you shouldn't wait to decide whether to euthanize him or not.
😔 what if the meds work and give him a little more time? Or am I keeping him around just for me.
I am so scared

You asked me on Krista’s tribute thread about urine clean up. I thought I’d reply here instead. Cats don’t really have “accidents” like dogs do. When they go outside the box, there’s always a reason for it. I always suggest a good cat that starts peeing outside the box should be checked for a medical reason first. Since it’s not an infection, it could be that he’s going more often than you’re cleaning. Or it could be that’s he’s going more often than he’s comfortable with because of the lasix/diuretics. After so many times, he’s getting lazy. Or it could be that he’s otherwise so uncomfortable from his other illnesses that he’s getting lax with his hygiene. The point is, he’s likely not going to stop this until he feels better. I’ve read this thread and I understand that he may not get better. I would get pee pads to cover the overflow areas. Or more boxes. Maybe get a deep plastic bin that you can cut a low side entry into: high sides, low entry. Put the entry on the side so that he has to turn inside and pee long ways to fit in the box. This way he doesn’t simply walk in and pee out the entrance.

Rocco & Roxie is what I used for cleaning the areas that Krista was marking the most when her teeth were bothering her and the marking was a cry for help. When I got her problem teeth addressed, the marking stopped. But since she was doing this for months, it had set in. Rocco and Roxie has helped getting it out. But the odor from it was so strong, I never would have been able to use this stuff while Krista was still alive. In her final year or so, she would throw up if I used anything overly fragranced or chemical. I used a natural product that didn’t work as well. (Pet Food Express exclusive brand with enzymes and essential oils) while she was still with me. I knew she wouldn’t have much longer with me and that I wanted to prioritize her comfort. After she passed, and after I had recovered enough to face it, I used a Bissell wet vac in Deep Clean mode with the R&R mixed into the water in the tank. I laid down a very wet couple of passes. After an hour, I used pee pads to sop up extra moisture. Ran a dry vac across it. And let the rest dry. Then I ran a dry vac across it again. Some areas needed to be treated again.

Thanks for your reply. Yes , Louie had a urinalysis and bloodwork done over a week ago. Unfortunately, he is in the end stages of HCM and CHF, and I am sure because he was feeling like craphe started to pee outside his box.
I've ordered Icky Poo Enzyme cleaner, and I have a Hoover powerdash, but I think the pee smell is still embedded in the carpet.
I will follow your suggestions, thanks.

Louie update: He started taking a second diuretic aldactazide Saturday and definitely perked up yesterday. Ate a bit more on his own, and I didnt give him the entyce stimulant
He had some meat baby foods, lots of squeeze up lickables and some wet food
