If your dog is a purebred there are breed specific websites you can check out. If not a purebred but you know the mix most groups will welcome you as a new member. For example, one of our dogs was a German Shepherd/Collie mix so I joined a German Shepherd site. You can also post and ask questions in this thread since there are other cat members who are also experienced dog owners and knowledgeable about canine behaviors, etc. Best of luck with your new pup! 🤗

Ok. great. Got a dog. She ignores cats. Got a second dog that wants to chase my kitten. My older cat sat up and slapped her for trying to chase her. My kitten just ran. From now on my dog try s to play with the kitten, barking, wanting to test her pet gate to get attention from the kitten.
Kitten does not want anything to do with her.

Keep the kitten completely away from the second dog, at the very least until it is grown more. Even then you may want to keep a muzzle on that dog whenever it is with the younger cat. Also, check into training for this dog, because since the older cat was able to get the dog to back off there is hope that the dog is trainable to leave all cats alone.

How old is the second dog and what breed or mix of breeds is she? Just out of curiosity, why would you introduce a new dog to a kitten so soon? Have you tried using a crate to train the dog? Does the dog get enough physical and mental exercise? When she is tired after exercise you can use the crate for a time out. This way the kitten can come out to investigate and not be threatened. The kitten should always have an escape route and safe room for security.

Yes the kitten has a safe room. The kitten is 10lbs and is a little over a year. The dog is behind a gate, she doesn’t require a crate. I checked. The dog guards her area. Good thing there’s access outside through the dog door.

Thanks. Idk the breed. I don’t want to muzzle her this is her the night after the shelter. We’re waiting for the vet.

She's either part pit bull or a pure pittie and a beautiful lady! :heartshape: I don't blame you for not wanting to muzzle her, that would not be my first choice either. Ember and Luna are absolutely gorgeous cats.:hearthrob: Glad the kitten has a safe room. But I wasn't sure what you meant by, "the dog doesn't require a crate." From the looks of the baby gate a cat or kitten could jump over it and the dog could easily get to them. Since Covid has put a damper on getting into a training class could the trainer come to your house or work with the dog and you in your yard? Obviously the situation will take time and patience but fingers crossed the dynamics will work out. :crossfingers:

the dogs are contained
i hired a trainer,
the deal is the dog that is house trained chases the cats
the dog that doesn't chase cats isn't house trained.
