I am so sorry. Have you checked Next Door Neighbor? Lots of 'behind the scenes' rescue groups follow these sites. What about pet stores who give new pets a home? Many of them are affiliated with rescue centers who utilize volunteers as fosters.
Also, can you look into any of the rescue centers on this site?

I don't know what the laws are in Mass but in Ohio we have "comfort animals"and landlords
must allow the pet with written authorization from a psychiatrist. I hope this helps

Do you have to go to that home or could you possibly find one that will allow you to keep your cats? Sorry... I know nothing of your backstory so I am just throwing out ideas.

"Mass" as in Massachusetts? If that is the case, while Spooky would not be considered a service animal, she might be considered an emotional support animal. If that is the case, you can ask for reasonable accommodations. Massachusetts laws are similar to other state laws pertaining to the use of emotional support animals, at least as far as I can see. You should just need a note from your doctor stating that Spooky acts to fill an emotional need, such as alleviating depression or anxiety. (You can also have a letter from a social worker or therapist. That is according to the Fair Housing Act.)

You said that your care provider is unable to let you take Spooky. Can you explain that to us so we have a better understanding as to why, please? I know you said there is an allergy, but will you be living with the daughter? Even if that is the case, allergy is not a reason to deny an ESA, unless it is a life-threatening one.

Previous post - thought maybe you missed it.

You also mentioned that your new home may not be long term - so, that is another consideration when looking for someone to take Spooky. Perhaps, a temporary foster set up (where you could pay the foster to care for her until you find another place to live).

Are you paying to live there? Is it just a friend letting you stay? I am trying to understand the dynamics. Is it a private building with fewer than three private dwellings not publically advertised? Is it a private home that was not publically advertised?

You have legal rights to have an emotional support animal. They can't legally make you give her up; if one place can't accomodate you, they have to find you another place that can. Is that something you're interested in pursuing?

Can you find or insist on another 'care provider'? What you are going through is like splitting up a family, just horrible. Talk to someone higher up, a manager, the state. Can the cat stay in your room and not be exposed to the allergic person? There is a lot more help out there than you imagine. It is just a matter of finding the right help. Get on Facebook and see if anyone suggests something.

I am still trying to understand this. Spooky is going to a group home? What does that mean? If she is your cat and she is not being taken because you have neglected her, once you are in a situation that would let you have her, they have no legal right to take her. You are not giving her up willingly, and you have rights under the law, especially if she is considered an ESA.

Could you please elaborate so that we might be able to help you more? Perhaps you can find an advocate in your area. Maybe they can help you keep her or get her back. I am still assuming you are in Massachusetts.
