Winchester Winchester I never saw the Home ep so I read about it on Wikipedia. OMG, what a creepy ep!! Johnny Mathis wouldn't allow his version of Wonderful, Wonderful to be used because of the ep's content.so they used a cover.

regular stuff

wash a lot of throws because they smell like Cal's urine. I cleaned her yesterday and will trim today.
I'll then fill the washer with 2 cups of bleach and do a wash cycle to disinfect

Not much planned.

C catapault I'm sorry you guys are going through this. It has to be difficult for your husband and you're really having a tough time of things. I'm sorry.
Mia6 Mia6 Yeah, it wasn't pretty. I didn't know that it was actually banned, although I knew that FOX wouldn't show it after the first time. Our son was visiting in NY when that episode first came on years ago. He was a big X-Files fan, too, and he and his GF watched it. When it was over, he called me and said, "OK, that one was disturbing."

Done with leaves and maybe that's it for the year. There are a few leaves yet on the trees, but overall nothing to really deal with anymore. Rick has to trim the weigela by the pool; I can't see beyond the thing anymore. It's way over-grown. He does want to do a bit of burning up in the garden, but everything is still really damp from the rain the other day. We get a good smoke and that's it. And it's supposed to rain tomorrow/Sunday.

Talked to Mother Dragon Mother Dragon and also to Mr. Mother Dragon last night for a while. She's doing well. I always enjoy talking to her.
  • Breakfast for the girls, emptied the dishwasher, and am sitting back here with my coffee. My day to scoop.
  • I have the first of two loads of laundry in the washer.
  • I have butter in the microwave to soften. Dear Richard told me that his cookie baker has been really slacking off the past couple weeks and there are no cookies in the house. He is not amused. I'll make the dough this morning and then bake some cookies this afternoon while he's outside. Not sure yet what I want to make though. I'll go through some cookies books and find something interesting. Definitely snickerdoodles....I'll make a double batch and give some to my sister and BIL. Kind of hungry for lemon, so maybe some lemon spongecake cookies. We'll see.

It continues. My car is parked outside because I'm using my garage bay to finish up preparing cannas for storage, etc. Last night's low was 30 degrees Fahrenheit on the roof. Not so cold, right? Car windshield frosted over. And car would not start.

I was planning to leave about 8:30 .m. for Wal-mart to buy 2 more pairs of compression stockings for Himself, and Shoprite for chicken backs to make salt free stock (Himself is now on a low salt, low fat diet) plus other things as long as I was there.

But my car wouldn't start.

By the time Himself was done with this and that and could hook the battery up to the charger it was an hour later . . . I got to the store around 10:00 a.m. On a Saturday. With some people doing early Thanksgiving grocery shopping. Very crowded.

Shoprite had no chicken backs for making soup, no gizzards for Mr Poe who gets one or two every evening to keep his gums healthy. Domino could have them but doesn't want them.

I bought a package of chicken leg quarters at 79 cents/pound and a package of chicken feet. Should make good soup. College Inn has no salt soup base - I bought 3 boxes. Herb-Ox has salt-free bouillon granules - I bought three of the little boxes. Couldn't find sorbet in the ice cream cases. Did find fruit popsicles - bought a package of raspberry and a package of strawberry, and a box of chocolate Italian ices cups.

Got home at noon. Fed the cats, made his lunch, had mine. Now try to get something accomplished in the garden before I clean my garage bay and by then it is probably time to make dinner.

I am not a particularly happy camper.

It continues, Part 2

Garage bay emptied, swept, car parked back inside. My back aches. My Honda HRV has keyless ignition. To start my car and park it in the garage I got the spare in the garage. Guess what? The spare "key" wants its battery replaced.

So tomorrow - when I planned on staying home - I need to go somewhere to find little round batteries. I want the one in my "key" replaced also.

Tried Egg Beaters. What nonsense! We agreed it's better to eat an egg only twice a week rather than consume this tasteless stuff. Only good thing - I had bought a small carton not the quart since it would be a trial.

What next? Guess I'll find out.

I've never had them but I'm with you about only eating eggs twice a week rather than eating something dreadful.

regular stuff

washing throws and then coats

having rain and high winds with gusts up to 50mph, yikes! I cranked the umbrella down and tied it, removed
anything that may get blown around. finally threw out my Geranium. It lasted since May!!

Will probably watch DVDs today. Yesterday I watched The Talented Mr. Ripley and The Orphan.

Mia6 Mia6 Rick's mother gave me her pot of geraniums when she went into assisted living several years ago. I managed to keep that planter for almost five years. At the end of the summer, I'd cut it down, and put the planter in sunlight in the basement and let it go. When it would start to grow, I'd start to water it. And then when it got warm enough, I'd put it back outside. Last year, when we had all that rain and lived in a swamp all summer long, it drowned. Somebody gave Evelyn a lily for Easter this past spring. She gave that to me and it's in the basement in the window. I noticed the other day that there were green shoots coming up, so I started to water it. It's looking pretty good. I'm going to have to take it out to the she shed, away from the cats. I forget how long my sister has had her geraniums; it's been forever. I swear that woman could bring a completely dead plant back to life.

Dear Richard is a happy camper again. I made Snickerdoodles (of course!), chocolate chip cookies, and Vanilla Dreams. A Vanilla Dream is a very, very crisp sugar cookie. You roll the dough into small balls, then squash the ball with a glass bottom dipped in sugar. They are baked for 25 minutes in a 300F oven. I've made them before, but I had baker's ammonia the last time. I'm out of baker's ammonia, so I had to use baking powder. They're still good and very crisp, but the texture is off, just a wee bit. I can tell, but I don't know if anybody else could. Rick thought they were good. I'm going to have to do a King Arthur order before I make them again. I spent my entire afternoon baking cookies.
  • Need to scoop boxes
  • Need to work on a grocery list. We'll have to go at some point this week, maybe early tomorrow.
And well, that's pretty much it. While Rick is bowling this afternoon, I'm going to the shed to continue my X-Files for a while.

Very gray, overcast day. Managed to
1) Wash and dry 2 loads of laundry and started to fold
2) Went to local hardware store and got the round batteries. Himself replaced the battery in my keyless fob and also in the spare in the garage
3) Cut back 5 large pots of Canna musaefolia and hauled the trash to the dump pile in the woods
4) Dug the tubers out of one container (a tire planter) but the other two pots I attempted to dislodge wouldn't come without damage to the pot. Will need to dump the pots and sort out the tubers that way
5) Have a large pot of chicken stock simmering on the stove. I cannot fathom why chicken leg quarters (which have meat that may be eaten) were 79 cents / pound and the chicken feet (called "paws" around here) were $1.69 / pound. Absurd
6) The last couple of days little birds have been flitting around where I have bird feeders in winter so I filled them today. Chickadees, titmouse, nuthatch making use of them. And a squirrel showed up too

Now I am sitting here with a mug of tea and waiting for the acetaminophen to kick in

Winchester Winchester Your cookies sound amazing! I've never heard of baker's ammonia

regular stuff

make list for Kaylee

We had very high winds from about noon yesterday and they just stopped about a half hour ago. The severe weather siren
went off which seemed odd for November. Cal hid under the bed. I looked out side and rubbish bin had fallen over and
a bag of trash had blown about 10 feet so I went out grabbed the bag, put it back in and placed a rock on top of bin.
Watched 3 eps of Sleeper Cell, the second season.

Mia6 Mia6 They were good. Thanks! I never heard of bakers ammonia either, until I got the King Arthur Cookie Companion. Found the recipe for Vanilla Dreams and it seemed like such a good cookie. I bought it and pretty much used it all in various cookies now. You can smell the ammonia as the cookies are baking, but the smell bakes completely out. (I made the mistake of opening the jar when it was delivered and took a deep sniff. Lord, but it took my breath away. Brought tears to my eyes. I had to go outside and get my breath back. Such an idiot I am; after all, it is ammonia! Oy!)

strider rose strider rose Hope your back feels better soon.

Man, the wind is howling around the house here, too. It was like that all day yesterday and should continue for a couple of days yet. It's going to get cold, too, for a while; our high on Wednesday is only in the 30s. Then gradually start to warm back up again. That should be end of the peppers. Rick went up to the garden yesterday and picked a bunch that were turning red. I keep saying to pull the blasted pepper plants out, but he likes the idea that we're into the middle of November and he's still picking blasted peppers.

Mollipop just came back to the computer room. "Mom, I want to go in the bedroom! Open the door, please!" So I got up and opened the door for her to go into the bedroom. No sooner got back here and sat back down than she started meowing from the bedroom. "Mom! You're supposed to be in bed! Not Dad! Let me out!" And she's in the computer room with me, stretched out on her red pillow and looking out the window.
  • Breakfast for the girls, emptied the dishwasher, and am sitting back here with my coffee. Clean, chop and freeze blasted peppers (the novelty has long worn thin!)
  • Finish up the grocery list and then run for groceries and visit the butcher
  • A quick vacuum about the house

Work

Put Revolution Plus on Boone and Gracie

Organize the wet food cans into daily meals so I don't have to remember what flavor and/or brand of food they ate prior.

*Shortened version of morning stuff

*take Geoffrey to Vet for his yearly. Debating on chilling him. He never goes out~afraid to leave apartment.
Hopefully his FORLS is not worsening. I have been finding many pieces of dry food around his dish.

G has been sneezing a lot lately.. wonderments rif it is from the incense? It is bothering me terribly. He seems to get some black junk in the corners of his ears. The only think I can think of is that it is from the litter. G sometimes has a piece of litter on his nose, and between his paws..
Since I have had him, 2 years, his ears are always full of wax. Do not think it is yeast--just wax.

* pick up mail from Saturday and Today. Package arrived Saturday, did not pick it up.

* phone call.. make an appointment.. for when I do not know. Covid is messing up everything.

That is it. I really need to dust the furniture. No get up and go. ... lazy..

Seems like every day gets something added that will be a daily occurrence. The latest it the compression stockings for Himself, that I hand wash with Eucalon, gently squeeze, roll in a towel and again squeeze, and put on a sweater drying rack. The stockings take about a day to dry; he has three pairs. But after just a couple of days there seems to be an (admittedly small) improvement with his swollen legs so it is worth it.

Yesterday I made a vat of chicken soup with the four chicken quarters, chicken feet, carrot, celery, onion, thyme, bay leaves, parsley. Strained it out and put in refrigerator to chill. Sunday is a good day for doing something like this as the trash goes out on Monday so the bones, slimy skin, etc don't hang around and stink up the garage. But now today I need to

1) Portion and pack up the soup stock and hope there is room in the freezer.
2) Go to the farm and feed with the ad for the drag harrow we want to sell. I'm hoping they have some large, tire size cardboard because - this is complicated so follow along with me - I have some tires with both side walls cut out. I use them as simple planters - not as elegant as the tire planters I've made. I want to use the three that are not in play for the dirt from the canna pots. But I want to put cardboard on the ground under them to help smother weeds. Got it?
3) Oven is heating so I can bake chocolate chip cookies that I prepared before going to bed last night.
4) Stop at health center to pick up form for handicap parking tag. Doctor filled out his part, Himself will do his, then I go to state police to obtain it.
5) Our intermittent helper is coming this afternoon. Priority will be whatever remaining cannas I intend to keep. The remainder can freeze to mush. Next will be the leaves coating the driveway, the lawn, everywhere.

Winchester Winchester Thanks for asking. Himself is doing a little better, day by day. No wheezing, diuretic working well. He still fatigues every day, often has an afternoon nap, goes to bed early. He's on so many medications that there's a check list of what he takes when. My hope is that the cardiac catheterization on November 23 will reveal something that can be resolved. And for that I would be truly thankful.
