my husband is retired and i am only in office three days a week because of the pandemic so there is almost always someone home. that last time they were alone has only been like three hours and all the other times someone peed we were both home. both bob and bowie used to throw up a lot would eat too fast. so we feed them very little wet food when they have it and leave dry food out all the time for grazing and this seems to have calmed the vomiting. bob spends a lot of time in sunroom especially if it is hot out both of the little guys like the heat. i can’t really think of anything that has changed
"so there is almost always someone home. that last time they were alone has only been like three hours and all the other times someone peed we were both home." - Hmmmmmm. Try to be observant as possible for any changes or anything out of the routine, different.

"both bob and bowie used to throw up a lot would eat too fast." - I forget. Were they ferals? And how old were they when you got them?

"so we feed them very little wet food when they have it and leave dry food out all the time for grazing and this seems to have calmed the vomiting." - Great. I am not a fan of free feeding but sometimes it is needed. Sounds like it is helping them with the food insecurity.

"bob spends a lot of time in sunroom especially if it is hot out both of the little guys like the heat." - Makes sense. I still wonder about potentially access to that room. Just keep an eye on that.

" i can’t really think of anything that has changed" - Yes, it isn't obvious. But it is something. Just try to stay very observant.

Is it possible the food bowl is empty and then they pee?

It can seem like something very minor to us but it just causes them issues.

Keep building that confidence through Play, Food, Height and Love.

Since it isn't often it is something that doesn't happen a lot so hopefully we can identify what it is. Keep looking for any changes and any changes in routines.

i found them outside when they were about ten weeks old. i don’t know what the deal was before that, but they kind of just appeared out of the woods to my friends pool, they hung out with us all day and we put a bed on her deck for them and food. when they were still there the next morning i packed them up and took them home. tried to find a home for them because we had a lot going on at the time but three and a half years later they are still here.

I just double washed all my peed on bedsheets, bedspread and matt. covers cause my 15 yr old boy started doing this too.
Northing more fun than waking up in a smelly pool of boycat pee. I never scold cause if not in the act he wont understand.
I know its him cause neither girl cat can pee that much.
Not sure why he did this but I just washed stuff twice and double rinse and use ODORZOUT laundry powder in wash.
its safe non toxic zeolite mineral in wash. Its a mineral that grabs odors and locks them in.
Well see if it happens again. I love cats that watch TV. good luck

Yes, that beginning in life can cause food insecurity and therefore fast eating.

I take in ferals and take care of a feral colony and see this pretty often. There is a big difference in kittens that I feed from the beginning vs mature cats that joined the colony regarding food insecurity.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for saving them and giving them a great life!!!

Ok on the food bowls being full. The stress isn't coming from food insecurity it seems.

" I never scold cause if not in the act he wont understand." - EXACTLY correct. Cats take on our emotions so if we get upset, angry, etc it only makes the cat get more stressed and escalates the issues. It is hard but it is so important to stay as calm and confident as possible and just clean up the pee.

no definately not food stress. i think they totally just like to graze. the one is super funny bowie, if i get up in the middle of the night, he jumps off me legs grabs a couple crunchies and by the time i get back into bed he is jumping right back on me. has anyone ever tried anything like cat calming treats? i'm afraid if there is nothing medically wrong with bob, the vet may want to med him, and hes so young. we tried to give cat calm treats to my older cat, but he wont eat them, im sure the little guys will.

"if i get up in the middle of the night, he jumps off me legs grabs a couple crunchies and by the time i get back into bed he is jumping right back on me. " - That is so cute. Ferals LOVE to eat at night (not that your guys are true ferals).

I personally am not a big believer in calming treats, Feliway, etc. I do believe confidence will pretty much deal with everything (non-medical).

"peed on couch in sunroom " - :( Anything happen before? Was he acting "differently"?

I am not a vet or an expert on medical but pain could come and go and cause peeing issues. See if he has any foot or leg problems. And ask the vet to see if there might be a pain reason behind it. He could be having crystals or something like that that crop up from time to time. Pain is hard to diagnose and find since cats tolerate pain pretty well but if anyone can find it a vet could (hopefully).

i never notice him going. bowie is the one we thought originally was peeing and he is in the litter box constantly like he’s showing me how good he is. i was not home when he did this but my husband said he did the scratching thing again and then ran and basically stayed in my closet. he did not come running out when i got home like he usually does but i gave him some treats and he’s back to “normal” standing on couch and beating up one of my pictures he likes to box lol. vet in morning! so i’m glad for tjat

"i never notice him going." - You don't hear him scratching at all either?

Do you see him drinking at all? Does he drink as much as the others?

"i was not home when he did this but my husband said he did the scratching thing again" - Ok, that tells me he doesn't want to be having his scent there so it most likely isn't territorial.

"and then ran and basically stayed in my closet." - Poor guy. He knows it is wrong. He is crying out for help.

Very well could be medical (pain), stress, or a negative association with the litter box (maybe it hurts when he goes, maybe the litter bothers him, maybe he was attacked while in the litter).

I am glad you gave him treats. It is best to act as calm, confident and normal as possible not to increase his stress. He definitely seems like he dosn;t want to be going outside of the box but something is causing it.

lease ask the vet about if he may have pain and of course an infection.

Please let us know. Hang in there.

don’t really see him drinking too much water and haven’t heard any scratching. if we turn on faucet which one of my other cats liked he loves to drink out of faucet but i’ve been trying not to do that i was afraid bob was drinking too much like that and that was causing him not to make it til litter box. will give update after vet! and thanks

Ok. Talk to the vet. I am wondering if he isn't drinking enough and it might be causing issues. He may need more wet food in his diet to get more hydration. I would consider usually the faucet if they like it. It shouldn't really cause issues for them.

Let the vet know all of this. I am wondering if he is having pain.

Good luck!!
